Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

Think that Tubridy cultivated that "Young Fogey" image while he was on 2FM. It was his "thing". Think that the RAJAR figures will be out before the JNLRs next month. Virgin Radio has already got the listenership data from its online listening and app.

National University of Ireland Galway. The gang of graduates (engineering field) who, when in old Dublin town meet regularly in Toners pub, but I understand you and others here might not have heard of them. They are known to post on likes of Insta etc.
"What are next weeks Lotto numbers?" is a simple question too. It's the answer that's impossible, and my opinion on what the numbers might be is worthless.
No, I'm just not into wild and unsubstituted speculation. J. It angries up the blood.
Seriously this is your excuse, Gerry Ryan was the housewives best friend. And Tubs started out on 2FM and had only left the Full Irish, which in fairness to him got 2fm out of the breakfast hole they were in after the departure of Dempsey.
Just asking for your opinion on whether you think that there's a path back to RTE or Irish national radio for Tubridy. It isn't a request for a prediction. It is just a question about Tubridy's return to Irish national broadcasting. Do you see any way back for him?
I went to college in Dublin, R. NCAD and then later on DIT for a Masters. Did a FAS course too (none of it engineering).
Never drank in Toners. I'm a Northsider, and Baggot Street would have been too far into enemy territory.
No interest in the 'gram either. I was curious at the beginning when it was specific to photography, but I just don't get it now. My brother has a healthy following as an artist (drawing) on it, so I can see the value, but it's not for me.
Not sure what you're talking about with NUIG. Is it the infamous (as opposed to unfamous) Burkes of Castlebar? Engineers you say?
All sounds a bit David Icke, tbh, but whatever you're having yourself.
Photos of Ice Cream no? (Lizards love Ice Cream, it how you catch 'em)
Lol! No. But nature photography is my main interest, and I've never shot a lizard in Ireland, so I must try your tip.
Turbridy will be back..
it will be part of a ‘make it all up deal’ when his legal team commence proceedings against RTÉ.
I believe he was hard done by - and will have his day.
BTW ..his Virgin Radio gig is not helping his share price
I wondered too.
None the wiser.
Yeah, it was quite cryptic. Even now that it's been explained, I'm still not sure I understand, tbh. Engineers from Galway drinking in Baggot St. and posting on Instagram. Not sure what that has to do with the price of eggs.
One thing is certain: Tubridy was never one of the LPBs from UCG. (It's a Quake thing.)
He went to UCD, didn't he?
Not sure what all the talk about college in Galway is today. Very odd.
Only applies to his shills 😁
How about this for an outlandish theory.....
Ian Dempsey is 63, and let's say he decides to retire at 65.
Replacement?
Tubs gets a national station and a breakfast show (which he seems to like).
Dya think paddy power will give me odds?!
(Disclaimer - all pure speculation, dreamt up in my head!)
I don't think Tubs can return to "The Full Irish" on Today FM, think it is too late, not sure who would replace Iano, but I can't see Bauer looking for a "big name", they will prob move someone over from either 98FM or Spin FM as a replacement... but they'll probably own all the radio stations in Ireland by that point.
Who or what are LPBs, jmcc?
The Quake reference went right over Gregor's head. :)
For those not familar with the history of Boards.ie
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boards.ie
Maybe with Arcy there's a contact in play to cover X amount of years going forward and rte with no choice but to give him loads of doah for basically nothing?
I'm being charitable here because if there isn't. Then bakhurst is doing sweet fa.
Rte will continue hemorrhaging ouroney and sticking a finger up to all of us.
And tubs can't have a starting point of 150,000 please God no,🥺 the man isn't worth 2 bob. I hope he never darkens our door again.
TBH, I think it went over everyone's head, J.
Back in the days of dial-up Internet and modems, the ping to game servers used to be between 150 milliseconds and 500 milliseconds (almost half a second) so anyone on a university network rather than dial-up had an advantage because their ping would be lower (less than 100 milliseconds). When someone was shooting at an LPB, the target may not have been in the same location due to the LPB's faster connection and they would be more difficult to hit. Players from universities with good Internet connections benefited and a few on an opposing team could make things difficult for dial-up players. Third level being third level, some of these people played online in teams or clans.
"The Quake reference went right over Gregor's head."
Mine, too.
And does this have something to do with Tubridy?
There’s a fair number of networks within Boards users, a lot casual with mainly PMs, some WhatsApp groups around from time to time. Boards.ie is the top visible layer of discussion, there’s lots of discussion under the waves, so to speak.
okay... Are you and jmcc in one of these groups? What do you discuss?
Thanks, jmcc.
But Ian Dempsey is more than competent at his job. He has years of experience, never a hint if scandal and, more importantly, is universally liked. How does his retirement open an opportunity for Tubs?
The 150,000 will be to pay back the 150,000 he owes back, but does not owe back in his head... After a year he will be back on 300,000. This is still less than Kevin gets, after his pension @ 25% and allowances are taken into account.
I am not saying this is what I would want, but is how may happen.
Don't think that any of the Quake groups still exist. That was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I haven't quite mastered time travel yet.
