Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

Was it? how do you feel about the 2.5m that RTÉ will spend on consultancy fees (strategy / governance), social media and Market Research over the next 3 years, as they had done over the past 3 years.
There seems to be this thing that RTÉ are good a running a public service broadcaster. I just don't see it.
I'm normally one who relies on data but I find it hard to believe PK is drawing a bigger audience. I've switched off early on more often than I ever did before. He's either interviewing someone from the North or giggling along with a so called comedian he alone finds funny.
You have averages and peaks. It is a shorter show. But I have not watch TLLS or any of RTÉ chat shows in a while.
Is she not the daughter of Emer O’Kelly, late of Montrose, she is the spit of her?
Expect The Gang to get especially active 😀
Re Private Club for Tubsidy, they don’t let just anybody in ya know 😁
Trouble is that he & his manager haven’t factored in the low but continued cost of attempting to control the narrative, which has abjectly failed. It can insidiously drain the coffers. The state of greed be ones a lonely place.
Don't think so.
Emma is "‘Limerick through and through’, she was raised on the Ennis Road in the city by a mother from Mungret and a father from Wolfe Tone Street." (https://www.limerickleader.ie/news/home/1241217/limerick-journalist-is-leading-the-calls-for-change-at-rte.html)
Doesn't sound like Emer.
Funny I thought it was about making TV and Radio. Having a good management team paid well who don't need Market Research and Communication and PR specialist to tell them how good they are!
Looks like the usuals have got the whip from the boss
Do you actually think that? Do you actually think that Noel Kelly employees are actively operating on this thread?
Am I one of them? When you reply to me, do you actually think you're literally on a hotline to Noel Kelly?
How does it work? Did I create my account in 2003, and then play the long game of being an active and respected Boards participant over the past 21 years as cover for my final mission to (checks notes) counter negative commentary against Ryan Tubridy on account of viewship figures being released for this successor on the Late Late Show?
Or was I a regular Boards poster all these years that was somehow recruited by Noel Kelly recently? How much do you think I get paid? Do I work from home, or in NKM's offices? Am I just one person, or is there multiple people on shift working the "Gregor Samsa" account?
I'm genuinely interested in what you think is going on regarding this nefarious conspiracy, because it's an insight into a mentality that I cannot fathom, and it's fascinating to me.
Yet he's still managing to pull in 45k more people per week than the most trusted toyman in Ireland (now in London). Says a lot really.
Wasn't the issue that they paid for it, but never used it?
Well, RTE’S Commercial Director Geraldine O’Leary told the Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media that it was actively used for meetings:
"Approximately five per cent of our business comes from the UK so previously we used to have offices in London in Millbank, where we would meet clients. We don’t have that anymore, so we avail of the opportunity to have meetings in Soho House in London when we are there with clients because we don’t have a location anymore.”

Some people see "swimming pool on the roof" and instantly think of frivolously expenditure on wasted luxury, when in fact it's a very modest outlay for required business facilities that is is the same cost as a dour desk in a WeWork open plan shed.
Its that "fact" thst makes me dubious about the data. For me PK id demonstrably worse than any previous presenter.
What an executive of RTÉ says something an you really believe them?
Yet you are not questioning pervious stats on TLLS? Only on the new presenter, who you perceive to be worse? You just have to take those figures as fact as those are the figures used for the last 20 years. (I have questioned them before this TBH).
What do you think the answer to the question "Wasn't the issue that they paid for it, but never used it?" is?
Do you have any evidence that they never used Soho House for meetings?
Do you think that Geraldine O’Leary lied to Ciaran Gannon that day?
I don't know, however she is a disgraced executive. I take what she says with a pinch of salt. I don't understand how the executives did not see clear reason for retaining their London Office allowing for both commercial business and a place for their London Correspondent. We only know that RTÉ are talking about their use of that service (soho house), not of the use of other services in London during that period of time.
RTÉ were willing to give their MD of News free flights to NYC to attend board meetings at CJP 4 times a year, how was that considered of any benefit to RTÉ?
Perhaps this was the least wasteful thing in RTÉ at the time, and may still be the least wasteful thing in RTÉ. But its not just about SoHo house, it about the mismanagement of the National Broadcasters.
Wondered why there was an uptick in posts on this thread today. Perhaps it is related to this:
One comparison of Kielty's LLS with the Tubridy LLS shows a big difference:
"New figures released to the Irish Sun show that the 22 episodes of The Late Late Show in 2023/2024 season have had an average audience of 452,000, with a 39 per cent share.
That is in contrast to previous host Tubs, who had an average audience of 407,000 with a 38 per cent share from the same number of episodes last year."
The numbers of 15-34 year old viewers are also up compared to Tubridy's shows. It is probably more damning for the former management of RTE than it is for Tubridy in that they may have kept Tubridy on the LLS for too long. It does take some of the pressure off the current management.
And the first quarter's RAJAR and JNLR figures are still to come.

You're late to the party, J. It's been posted and discussed already.
And the claim that it somehow resulted in Noel Kelly, his friends, family and horse posting in response to it has - predictably - already been made too.
But without the numbers, Gregor. Those numbers are significant and show that the Kielty LLS is more popular than the Tubridy LLS and it seems to be getting younger demographics. You will have to admit that Kielty is doing better in terms of audience figures than Tubridy. The data, minimal though it is, in that article shows that the decision to hire Kielty was a good one for the RTE management. Tubridy's former slot on RTE radio has been taken over by Oliver Callan and it too seems to have gained listeners.
This is going to make a return to RTE more difficult for Tubridy unless there is a downturn in audience figures. In what part of the RTE schedule or even on which RTE radio station would you see any opportunity for Tubridy?
No problems with Kielty at all. A great, professional presenter. Fresh blood like that and the new format was bound to boost the numbers, and indeed it has.
Tubridy himself admitted that his heart wasn't in the LLS any more, and he bowed out to hand it over to someone who would do it justice. Fresh starts for everyone.
You know after the death of Gerry Ryan Tubs moved over to 2FM for 5 years. The audience collapsed. Now you can say he was taking over from Gerry Ryan who was largely holding up 2fm and even after Tubs departure no one got the kind of audience that G Ryan had. However, we supposed to have believe that Tubs would bring an audience to 2FM during his time as RTÉ most paid presenter, but at the very same time John Murray held on to Tubs audience in the 9 slot on Radio 1. Eventual the great RTÉ management decided to move Tubs over to RTÉ Radio 1.
What happened during these 5 years, that was different to any other 5 years? Was Ryan's heart just not in 2FM and his real home was Radio 1?
N U IG. Toners
the true answer is Tubs core audience is older and didn’t relate to 2fm. See also how Kielty is able to increase the 16-34 audience for the LLS. From an advertising perspective his lack of appeal to the younger audience will always limit his commercial appeal and ability to get another gig.
but virgin must be delighted to be getting more oldies listening to their pop station 😉
So, you don't see any path for Tubridy to return to RTE at present or in the near future? Do you think that he could replace Marty Whelan on Lyric FM if the banter master retires?
Would you think that Tubridy might return to Irish national radio? Could there be a slot for him on any of the Bauer stations?
Sorry, R. That one went over my head. Care to explain?
I've never made any claims about Tubridy returning to RTE. Crystal balls aren't my thing, I'm afraid. Stick to the facts is my motto.
It is a simple enough question that doesn't require any crystal balls. In your opinion, is there a path back to RTE, or even Irish national radio, for Tubridy?
