Just the usual tabloid scutter which amps up a couple of notches on international break when they've shag all else to be writing about. Double it again, cause MUFC.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

Really enjoyed Andy Lees pretty practical real world response on working Ryiad.

I don’t care if Big Nice John is useless, this can’t be any worse than the Kenny nightmare.

I dunno... found it a bit weird that he literally didn't even seem to have thought about it, just like "yeah, I dunno, they're all very nice to me anyway".

Like, i could totally understand someone having a practical real world response like; "yeah, its not great, but this is where work is, so this is where i need to be - its not my responsibility to make that decision, its the governing bodies"... but he was so far short of any sort of introspection like that. He eventually got about halfway there with some pressing from Eoin - which was good to see at least, after the lads gave him a very easy ride in the past with the MTK stuff. I'm a big fan of Andy Lee (both the boxer, and the guy), so was a bit disappointed that he hadn't even seemed to think about it enough to actually make a conscious decision.

Some people just honestly dont care though. Chap I work with couldn't care less about politics or world affairs or anything really. He just wants to go to work, come home, watch a bit of sport, have a few drinks the weekend and that's it. And once it don't impact him he don't care. So maybe Andy Lee genuinely doesn't care about it.

Though it was a bit ridiculous that he wondered why anyone had a problem with it, they're prizefighters and Saudi Arabia offered the biggest purse. And the very next question was what he thought Jake Paul vs Tyson and he laughed saying it was ridiculous.

this international break is killing me with such a great title run in we could have this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,187 ✭✭✭bren2001

I love the international break but its awful when it's just friendlies. They're doing away with the March break soon enough at least!

Pity Malachy Clerkin wasn't on with Jamie Wall, I don't think he'd have been as diplomatic as Jamie in talking about that **** Hayes

Was only thinking it seems a while since Malachy's been on.

He had a piece on the Hayes case in the Times last week, behind a paywall though.

Did anyone notice, I don’t think Jamie Wall has one “like” in the whole conversation! He has def been working on that.

On serious note, he is a brilliant analyst for hurling.

Our man Gus available. Funniest possible outcome now is the football hipsters on Second Captains (thankfully Eoin and Murph had some realism) living under the Poyetball Era after rubbishing him early in the process.

No Simpsons reference either I think 🤔

I like Jamie, but I do prefer when it's both Jamie & Malacky

Ken in his Irish Times column today has a gentle dig at himself for the rather silly comparison between Ireland and Bayer Leverkeusen after the Belgium game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,443 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

One of Ken's character traits is to get a little bit over excited at times. I enjoy it, but, you always have to take it with a grain of salt.

They all got a little bit over excited about John O'Shea. They all wanted to give him the job based off I dunno what

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,093 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

Yeah they were all but predicting he’d win the two matches before a ball had been kicked

You probably aren’t listening to OTB but the spoofing they’ve being indulging in about the job is already oshea’s is just a tour de force of the craft of spoofery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,443 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

In fairness the likelihood of him becoming the next coach is high-ish, due to the lack of other options. If the team had performed well, there'd be a real push for it to happen from the media

But I was surprised at how quickly the lads, especially Ken, seemed to take to the idea. It felt like emotion was ruling the head once more, like when Kenny was first appointed; deja vu all over again. As much as I know it was largely a pot-shot from a grumpy old man, but there is a sliver of truth in that Giles comment about Ken not really knowing much about football. I still love the guy of course, but, I wouldn't necessarily agree with anything he has to say about football.

Have no idea how OTB are framing it, but, I believe you.

I would say the chances of Oshea being given the job are about 10%. The media are totally fanning this story to distract from the embarrassment of being at a lost as to who the actual man is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,093 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

But I think the media bigging him up increases the likelihood of him being appointed. The FAI is obsessed with trying to get good coverage from the media and it knows that unless it appoints Jurgen Klopp it’s going to get a negative, or at least nonplussed, reaction. I think it makes it more likely that they’ll give it to O’Shea on the basis that it would not lead to a backlash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,647 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

I think the FAI simply told the truth that Oshea is an intermin and the actual guy is waiting is finishing up elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Yeah, didn't they say the guy they're giving the job to was in contract till March so couldn't announce him sooner, which indicates it's not O'Shea. Unless something has changed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,753 ✭✭✭sheroman01

I find it hilarious, and frustrating, the condescension that was directed towards Kenny and his lack of credentials for the Ireland job, yet O'Shea and Duff are genuine candidates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,913 ✭✭✭✭padd b1975

    Definitely noticed that.

Good sprinkle of "ehhs" which tells me he's checking himself.

Not too sure about the quality of his analysis to be honest.

    He's adequate, nothing special.

You wouldn't be saying that if you had to endure Martin "listeners" Carney on a regular basis.
