I thought he would get some jail time especially since he ran from the cops and pleaded not guilty.
He's very lucky, but not a great role model for young gaa fans.
And it was 5 years ago, so even as a hurler he hadn't done too much (yet). Which makes the "do you know who I am comment" even more astonishing.
Yes he will, and he picked him to play a league game against Dublin last month while already found guilty and awaiting sentencing. He said he had "no hesitation".
‘I had no hesitation picking Kyle Hayes’ says Limerick boss John Kiely | Irish Independent
He'd won Man of the Match in an all ireland final.
OK fair enough, but you take my point.
He "only" had 1 all-Ireland medal back then, not the 5 that he has now.
He had no All-Star awards back then, whereas now he has 4.
In fairness, some of the fawning that goes on over players, in all counties, results in these gigantic egos. They're grown men running around a field after a ball. That's it. They're not nurses or doctors (well, a few of them are, but you know what I mean).
Actually how has this affected his professional life never mind his sporting life?
I know HR is often full of backstabbing gossipy a**holes, but do you want someone working in HR who has criminal conviction for fighting and beating the cr** out of someone ?
In fairness"do you know who I am" is is spouted by practically every scobe I have ever seen in a fight. Might be more about his associates than his hurling.
I mean no one knew who Ronnie Pickering was back when he said it either 🤣
Jesus. Are you referring to Putin or Kyle Hayes? Isn’t it great how people get so exercised over one case, which as you should know, HAS been dealt with by the courts. We don't need any self-appointed judge & jury thanks. Due process has been conducted
The typical Limerick supporter response.
Another "legend" let off with a slap on the wrist.
Nonsense. I let the courts do their job
He's right though. Do you condemn his actions? That's a yes or no question.
I didn't judge the case. Do any of you not get that. It doesn't matter a f**k what I think
On a personal level do you condemn his actions and what he did?
Any sane person would and I think l'm sane 🤔
Got there in the end. Its a pity his slavish supporters don't see how serious and vile his actions were.
His "slavish" supporters are getting great mileage out of how Hayes, Kiely, JP and Limerick hurling in general are living rent free in the heads of some. There are quite a few Limerick fans I know (myself included) who would never condone what he did and know that he's a very lucky boy.
"Got there in the end"......good lad. Like something an unlikeable teacher of mine used to say to students 😉
"Non-stop abuse and rightly so"? The keyboard warriors are having a right party.
Did the courts do a good job on this case?
Whatever he does as a hurler will be somewhat overshadowed by his terrible character. A real thug who should be in jail for a few years. But this is Ireland and our judges don't believe in putting people in jail.
Many many years ago I was in a nightclub in Leitrim. A lad started slobbering over my girlfriend and I asked him to please go away. He objected and he and she explaied who he was. [ a 14 stone skinny Leitrim footballer].
I explained that I didn't care and we disembarked the establishment for a lively discussion.
I've bounced in Clondalkin drive taxis in London and even sung ballads in Jobstown. So it's went how you'd think but the attitude remains .
Kids these days dare being coached but kids front those days break the cycle
I wonder if Kiely would be so understanding and sympathetic if it was his son who was beaten that badly. Isn’t Kiely a school principal? Sickening…
In the absence of mandatory sentences the system is open to kind of sentence. The individual I assume was not in trouble before or since so in general it’s given that the custodial sentence serves no purpose.
If he admitted what he had done and had remorse then I would agree that a custodial sentence would be over the top.
The fact that he had no remorse means that a custodial sentence would be appropriate. Lads like that never resort to violence in a once off incident only.
don’t exactly follow your analogy there……you might need to expand/re-write it somewhat….especially the last sentence…?
Imagine how big their egos would be if they were paid big money to play. 😮 in fairness some of them think they are Messi. I remember one GAA player, married guy and not good looking at all, but he used to try it on with anything that moved, the arrogance from him was unreal.
Funny because it's true
Lookit....All will be forgiven and forgotten about when Limerick win 5 in a row....
If he'd driven over and killed/maimed the victim there'd have been less outrage no doubt.
