Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
Don't think she does 'Silver Springs' so may aswell burn daddys money.
'Seven Wonders' entered the US charts a few years back and she's not done that outside of Fleetwood Mac since either if ever.
Speaking of all them I don’t suppose you’re heading to see Basht on Friday?
Was anyone at the Queen Extravaganza show in Dublin tonight? Was wondering what the stage times are.
I’d say so though they don’t start til midnight or after. A free gig and in the small room so it’ll be rammed. They were very good at EP and this could be a pretty intense gig in that tiny space.
.
Wonder what the Bon Jovi fanbase is like down in the Heard and McDonald islands (first I've ever heard (pardon the pun) of those island)
Hes had surgery for his voice
Ah cool, fingers crossed he's recovered well
I'd say a few in here would enjoy Sun Mahsene, playing Whelan’s Upstairs on Thur 16th May 2024. I'll copy their blurb...
Sun Mahshene are a post-shoegaze band from Ireland. Weaving together a perfect storm of fuzzed up guitars, memorable melodies, and insightful lyrics, ...leading to music that is a bold mix of alternative rock and indie electronica. Balancing dreamy musical moments with a full-on sonic assault, the songs have a decidedly anthemic tone.
Pearl Jam: €170
Stevie Nicks: €151
Think I am done with music this year.
Yup! If I get a sub 100e ticket the week of PJ then I will go. But kinda done with this madness. Letting down a teen this morning for Nicks tickets. Cannot be justified
First few months of 2024
Muireann Bradley: €15
Ghostwoman: €18
Slift: €20
Snapped Ankles: €20
Likely last time either act will play here hence they charging ridic fees
pearl jam: €127
and picked up tickets yesterday to Nick Cave for €80
ive paul weller in limerick castle for €72
pixies in galway for €67
elbow in trinity for €77
theres plenty of decent value for decent music out there.
lets not forget the average price to see Barbara Streisand 17 years ago in kildare was €200
people paid on average €120 for leonard cohen in sligo 15 years ago.
while we are a high cost location for music gigs, its ever been such.
My gigs for 2024 so far .... no way I'd pay over €100 for anybody, plenty of other choices
Jah Wobble - €39
Judas Priest / Saxon / Uriah Heep - €70
The Hives - €44
Opeth (Tilburg) - €45
Fish Farewll Tour (Berlin) - €69
Cast - €44
To be fair (and I don't agree with the prices) but Pearl Jam and Stevie Nicks are the sort of artists who tour these shores extremely rarely and are always going to charge a premium - but they're not the bar of where ticket prices are. You're always going to be paying mad money for the likes of them or Elton John, Bruce Springsteen etc.
As others have said, there's plenty of decent prices still out there for bigger acts. In the last year, I've got tickets to Nick Cave ticket for €100, The 1975 cost €58, Blur was €90, Hozier was €55, QOTSA €71, Future Islands €60, - to name a few.
Absolutely. Keep banging that drum Nal.
I think I've hit my own personal sweet spot with lots of low cost small venue gigs, brilliant, intimate stuff, with the odd slightly more expensive treat, a Pixies/ PJ/ Wilco in the Olympia or a Suede, Nick Cave etc. I think there's probably lots of big music fans who've just got out of the habit of small gigs and rely completely on big, mega bucks nostalgia acts. It's never too late to go back.
Another Marquee announcement in a couple hours, says it’s huge but I guess we’ll have to see
I dunno about that cos plenty of artists who will play here have charged similar prices. I haven't seem that they've been billed as their last tours and even then there's plenty of artists who toured after their supposed last tours.
Dropped 400 quid on 2 tickets for Stevie nicks. My wife's favorite so had to be done but feel robbed. 120 is about the limit I'd pay for my bands.
Probably Kneecap or the likes. They announced a big top gig in Donegal today
That manics / suede combo for €67 a ticket just keeps looking like better and better value.
Their new EP is very good
Same. I feel violated. It better be worth it. 😒
Where are ya seeing this ?
neyo doing marquee in June
Arab Strap in Galway. YEEEESSSSSS!!!! Had Moffat and Middleton here separately in the past decade but never the band.
LCD/Young Fathers/IDLES/Sh1t Robot for €77 also a great deal.
Agreed so I’m probably going to have to get to it though early Sat morning football coaching for kids makes me want to get to sleep before 2am. You going, or to another of their gigs?
Absolutely @Stillill42 . I was out of the habit of small gigs when living in London as even a relatively new act like NewDad or Sprints would play an 800-1,500 venue there.
Back in Galway the larger gigs are limited to the Arts Fest in July or else a dozen acts per year at Leisureland or the Black Box. Thus the Róísín, Monroes, Loft, Town Hall and Arás na nGael provide almost all my musical entertainment and it’s so inexpensive that I can go to a gig or two a week.
Not only upcoming acts but since returning in 2017 these small venues (120 to 350 capacity) have put on Mercury Rev, Richard Thompson, Sineád O’Connor, Ash, Therapy?, Sleaford Mods, The Wedding Present, Fontaines DC, Robert Plant, The Lemonheads, Badly Drawn Boy, Lloyd Cole, Tune-Yards, Robert Forster and loads more.
Coming up are Muireann Bradley (€16), Sprints/Chalk (€14), Cardinals (€10), Cinder Well (€17), Bluetones (€22), Basht (free), Coach Party (€6, half-price), Havvk/Shark School (€12), Jane Weaver (€23), Cass McCombs (€21), Arborist (€11) and Miles Kane (€24).
In total that’s €176 for 14 acts plus more supports not mentioned. Less than one PJ or SN ticket. I hope the people going to them have a blast, and I know they will, but that greed by artists is well into immorality territory and I cannot participate in further lining their pockets.
