I thought he would get some jail time especially since he ran from the cops and pleaded not guilty.
He's very lucky, but not a great role model for young gaa fans.
You'd want to see the carry on of the Limerick players, well some in Alfie Earls Pub in Limerick.
Weekly drugs test should be mandatory if playing.
You’d wonder if there’ll be lads trying to get him to lash out over the championship just for this reason, if Keily wanted to show leadership to his team Hayes should be dropped imo.
They will that's a guarantee and he will be closely monitored by players and officials.
A. John Leahy pleaded guilty. He didn’t plead innocent. So the comparison doesn’t work and ends there.
B. John Leahy entered an addiction clinic well before the court case. He got clean and stayed clean and became an addiction councillor. Turned his life around.
I suspect he'll be hearing the line "Don't you know who I am" a lot
Its not only Limerick players. If drug testing was brought into GAA a lot of players would be fu#ked. Both club and county
Some Ex league of Ireland Soccer player also in papers yesterday getting suspended sentence for breaking a persons jaw......
Jails are full...if someone is put in jail they have to release someone else on license who could be a worse individual ,
Killing someone is the only way you definetly go to jail these days
I'd say his odds for getting red cards this year will be slashed.
He'll be getting none stop abuse and rightly so
There were always fellas trying to get him to lash out. Can't see how this year would be any different.
Could this be the end of limerick’s 5 in a row aspirations. ….?
It could also drive them on .
Have they ever been warmer favourites?
Limerick 8/11
Kilkenny 13/2
Galway 7/1
Clare 8/1
Bizarre that KK are second favourites...........and amazing that Cork don't feature in top 4...? The guy who started the 'Cork Enigma' thread must be really scratching his head..?
Tiger Woods shagged other women than his wife.
He didn't kick or lead other people to kick a guy on the ground facturing their eye socket.
The GAA are mighty good at continously shoving shyte down our throats about what they do for communities whenever it is time to look for handouts.
A lot of GAA clubs have always been hiding places for scumbags, all because they are great men on the pitch.
One of the most prominent members of the the best and biggest hurling team in the country is a gutless scrote who kicks defenseless guys on the ground, then runs away and then in open court hasn't the balls to admit his guilt is not a good look.
Ah but sure isn't he a great hurler.
Yes most people have made some mistakes and have regrets.
But then again most people haven't tried to kick the head off someone on the ground.
There is a hell of a difference at having a pop at someone verbally and kicking the head off them when lying on the ground.
I hope you know the difference.
Not alone is he scumbag, he is gutless.
Kicking someone on the ground is gutless, not some great brave act.
And to add to it he ran away and then hadn't the balls to admit his guilt in court like a real man.
As someone that once lived in Limerick and saw how long Limerick fans desired for the seniors to make it, I wanted them to win those All Irelands.
Now I would even rather Kilkenny win if this is the standard of Limerick fans, players and managers.
Is Kiely going to pick this piece of sh!t to line up for Limerick after this? Don't know has he said either way but it would be an awful reflection on him as both a person and manager to allow him back on the team where he is inevitably going to pull attention away from everyone else and he will be getting lads goading him 100 times more to get the red cards out. Not to mention the abuse from the stands. The scumbag should just fcuk off under a rock and do the world a favour.
Thats a significant difference in the cases that I wasn’t aware of ie pleading guilty and attending addiction counselling sessions.
Reckon it could drive them on tbh. They were already hated in some quarters, even more so now. This might galvanize them more.
Kilkenny and Galway are always going to be higher in the betting as the task facing them is judged to be easier, ie they are more or less guaranteed to be in the knockout stages.
No one who does something like this goes to jail.
If he had 200 convictions already, he still wouldn't be going to jail.
That's down to our government refusing to build any jail for decades at this stage.
I would say though that if he was an ordinary punter he wouldn't have the 10k fine.
The Limerick supporters really have shown themselves up for what they are (enter your own word here). Have a look at social media, they are all not just defending Hayes but singing his praises to the limit. I haven’t seen one Limerick supporter criticise him in any way, not one. When Aishling Thompson was in court for assault some Cork people were defending her too but not all of them were (including myself; I would never defend thuggery).
Of course Kiely is going to pick him, he also showed what kind of character he is during the whole process.
He played a significant role in Hayes getting let off so lightly.
Not all Limerick supporters are supporting him. Plenty of them are getting attacked on X and Facebook for criticizing Hayes and Kiely.
Utter nonsense. I haven't seen one Limerick supporter criticise him on Facebook.
They are posting in their droves praising him to the skies and wishing him all the best.
So all of 200000 ish of Limerick is on Social Media defending Hayes ?
I won't be doing your research for you. Just one example. https://x.com/gertieluimneach/status/1770436463143817280?s=20
Maybe there is some criticism from Limerick people on Twitter but I have seen not one bit of it on Facebook. I was looking last night on the popular GAA Facebooks and it is quite remarkable the huge number of them on there defending him.
You’d think he was after inventing a cure for cancer rather than viciously assaulting someone.
Yes it does seem that way.
What about the consequences for the person he attacked? Having drink 'on' you isn't an excuse for behaving like a thug. And the 'do you know who I am?' comment .... really! He's not even a professional athlete.
