I thought he would get some jail time especially since he ran from the cops and pleaded not guilty.
He's very lucky, but not a great role model for young gaa fans.
Did you expect anything else?
One our Rugby legends and current TV commentators had a previous similar court experience and 'survived' quite well.
Called it. GAA players don't go to jail in this country. In a few months now JP and all the Limerick elite will be slapping his back and he will be put on the bizarre pedestal people in this country afford GAA players. If that was anybody else they would be doing time for it. 100% got away with it.
What's even more sickening is all the praise he got from the Limerick manager, saying he was mature and someone to rely on. The same little toerag pled not guilty to all charged, so that's a complete lie about his character.
For me that totally tainted John Kiely as a GAA manager. He can have all the success he wants as a hurling manager but that showed his character in it's true light.
Good to know that GAA players can get away with assaulting defenseless people on the ground and then lying about it without a custodial sentence. Another sad day for our justice system.
I would have thought that the Kiely character witness fiasco - and of course Hayes' own refusal to take any responsibility whatsoever - would have been considered insulting by the judge.
But it seems not, no need to take any responsibility in order to get leniency from Irish courts
"Don't you know who I am?..."

Warning issued.
Who?
Google..galway..court case...rugby...doorman etc
Shane Horgan! Assaulted a Galway bouncer while wearing a Leinster blazer. Money is all he lost as well. If it was him who paid it.
I know we had COVID lockdowns but is there any reason why it took the guts of 5 years to get to this decision?
No fan of Hayes, but what he does outside of actual pitch time should have no bearing on his GAA appearances and I'm sure the judge didn't adjudicate this on his being a high-profile figure. No more than Tiger Woods having to apologise to the golfing big wigs for his multiple misdemeanours when he should have told them to get stuffed as it was a private mater and nothing to do with them.
Yes, admitting to his crime and showing some remorse would have this forgotten about pretty quick for Hayes. But he did neither, for whatever reason, and now faces a summer of goading from the stands.
Now... I'm a Limerick man, and part time Hurling fan... but still think Kyle "Don't you know who I am" Hayes is a scrote.
But - GAA, John Kiely and JP's "pull" aside - there are utter scumbags doing this week in, week out, outside Limerick bars and clubs - and the Gardai are LITERALLY just watching on. As for the other c.u.next Tuesday's with 99 previous convictions - they're also walking away from similar charges.
This little 'cuntry' is fooked
Won't knock a stir out of Hayes. He ll gp down as one of the greatest hurlers of all time when his career is over.
No one from Limerick says 'scrote' ..only Northern Irish. You aren't from Limerick
Really like Kyle Hayes as a player. He's outstanding as an athlete and hurler. His versatility is unrivalled. 5 All Irelands and only 25. 2 as a forward, 3 as a back. I won't condone his assault but he was never going to jail. He was only 19 when it occurred and no previous convictions.
Why did he skip a birthday? (Or maybe even 2). I didn't know you were allowed to do that.
(RTE says he was 21 at the time btw)
spot on.
Wrong as usual.
But in fairness it's always been clear you know nothing about Limerick.
Fair play to your man he assaulted seeing it through, I can't even imagine the amount of pressure and bolloxing that he would have endured by people trying to have him drop it. Its a shame he didn't get the justice this case should have seen. No Australia or America trips for Hayes going forward.
Our law system is a joke. What money and power can do for some high profile people. I hope he gets plenty of it on the field now and karma gets him. No time for Kyle or Kielys defence of him after this assault.
The victim of the assault has got dog's abuse from Limerick "supporters". They blame him for the whole thing and have no sympathy for him.
Why would he do that when he knew he was going to get away with it. He won't be paying that compensation either, that will be sorted out for him.
Kiely has come out as bad as Hayes out of the whole situation....would have been better off to have stayed out if it
He will always go down as scxmbag who got away very lightly in the Irish law system. Can't defend what he did and say it was right.
He'll never be near Cody's league now as a manager.
If a hurler rang Cody the day after kicking the head off a lad, he wouldn't be calling him or see him or a county jersey again.
The teat of JP!
As if posters here never made mistakes when they were younger. Look he had drink on him and got into a row and the consequences are that he now faces having a record for life. That's were it should end. Talk about kicking a man when he's down. As a saying in the bible goes "let those without sin cast the first stone".
Tis very easy to come on here as an anonymous key board warrior and spout terms like scumbag. Talk is cheap.
It has been dealt with by the courts end of.
