Very nice to have an experienced head coming in too. We've a huge over-reliance on youth in most positions, so having a lad in that peak-age range joining up is much needed.
Carlsey with the very public flat no to the FAI today. More egg on the face of the executive in a manager search that is reaching biblical proportions.
Who could be the new manager? Contract coming to an end and can be announced in April. It points to Poyet or Willie Sagnol. Who else could it be?
Gurban obviously.
Has to be Anthony Barry at this stage really doesn't it?
Theres no real egg on anyones face. They said they're announcing in early April and they cant announce earlier for contractual reasons. Theres only egg on their face if it transpires that they thought they were getting Carsley. We don't know that yet. Wait until early April before mocking them at the very least.
You're very quick with the controversial takes.
No, he’s contracted to Portugal and Bayern Munich so I would put him down as a huge long shot.
Tuchels gone in the summer and you'd imagine Barry leaves with him.
Managing Ireland is a promotion for him.
So you think it’s plausible that he’s going to leave both Bayern and Portugal in the lurch as they bid for CL and Euros glory?
I think he's fired from Bayern in the summer with Tuchel. I don't think he'd hesitate to leave Portugal if he was offered and wanted the Ireland job. He didn't have an issue leaving Ireland in a lurch. He could easily join after the Euros.
I don't think it is Barry but I don't think Bayern and Portugal would stop him.
He's only Assistant Manager, that departure would be hardly leaving a team in the lurch.
I think it'd be gas if it was Barry that got the job but only for Ken's reaction as I always get the impression Ken doesn't like him very much.
One of 3 Assistant Managers as well isn't he? When Tuchel was missing for a match, he wasn't the stand in manager.
If Ireland were preparing for a major tournament and the assistant manager left to take over Iceland 2 months before a tournament you’d have no problem with that?
it would also be a strange decision of Barry’s to not leave because he has contractual agreements until April…..when he still has contractual agreements with not one but two teams.
I think you’re looking for something that has no chance of happening if I’m honest
Oh I don't think it's gonna happen either.
And "No" to your 1st question. I'd have no problem with an assistant moving on at any time.
You’d probably be in a minority there given Anthony Barry was booed when he appeared on the Belgium bench at the Aviva
Minority of who?
I said the only reason I'd like him doing the Irish job is to hear Ken.
I don't care for the fella myself.
I think wires have got crossed here.
But I also don't think losing an assistant is a big deal.
Minority of not viewing him dimly if he was leaving before a major tournament.
..
I think the ones with egg on their face are the media. Tonnes of outlets claiming reports that carsley news was declining or imminent over January and February when in reality there was nothing to report.
The book review with Joe Canning, I dunno whether I found it boring or interesting, probably found myself more interested in Joe speaking about his his own career than them speaking about the book.
You summed up my thoughts exactly
The best thing about the book club is that it’s not on much.
The book club is always a pretty dull affair.
The ones with Jim Carney, Brian Kerr and Catriona Crowe were good, the rest seem to be interviews about the person's career with occasional reference to the book.
If anyone thinks what Carsley says in a media engagement as England U21 manager reflects the full truth of the back and forth and back channel conversations that went on over another job I have a very long bridge to sell you.
you can't say this without linking the episode. i don't recall the episode and a patreon search didn't return anything. any ideas what else they were talking about that episode?
Southgate surely can't be a legitimate name for the Utd job?
For the book club I wish they would do it properly and have a guest thats related to the book. With this one for example could be a recently retired tour pro, or journalist covering the golf beat.
Like having Joe Canning on while randomly mentioning the book now and again makes no sense to me tbh.
It does seem wrong. I agree.
Less wrong than the Lee Carsley for England shout doing the rounds.
Ya what. They explained when they announced the book that Joe is a huge golf head.
