Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

I can completely understand that. The listeners want local radio for local people. It's nothing to do with Tubridy per-se. If Gay Byrne himself had been resurrected and a show of his infringed on O'Callaghan's spot, there would have been similar disquiet. And rightly so.
You have to admit that gaybo was loved as a national institution, it's farcical to suggest barter account boy hold any public affection.

I saw poor Gareth receive an awful twitter pile on. Felt bad for him but one simply cannot go to social media calling for lockdown in late 2023 because somebody got covid , the public appetite just wasn't there 😀

In an online post, he wrote "It is a rare disease, very progressive and sadly incurable. I thought I might have been able to continue working as normal for another few months but, unfortunately, the pace and the painful decline of this awful thing has really taken us by surprise."[9]

G O’C still sounds well on the radio, but can’t imagine it’s easy managing an illness like that.
I suspect he’s one of those old school presenters who’d like to stay on-air for as possible which I think it’s admirable, so more power to him.
Gareth O'Callaghan like him or loathe him is a polished, eloquent and experienced presenter who has over 40 years on some of the most iconic stations from the original and best 1980s Nova to 2fm and he was well liked in The UK having done programmes at the BBC and with ILR stations in the mid 80s. He also handled his illnesses with courage and still does what he loves because he loves radio.
Ryan Tubridy, on the other hand is today about as popular as our outgoing Taoiseach. I caught a short bit of him (Tubridy) in passing today and he is unable to realise differences in vocabulary between Ireland and England. STILL it seems: a "Hoover" is not always used to describe a vacuum cleaner in The UK. He just manages to comes across as an uncouth, chavvy, simpleton the more desperately he attempts to display himself as high brow, intelligent and "worldly" - he is anything but.
It is a disgrace to listen to and I am ashamed that is how we as Irish are being portrayed to a UK audience.
I wouldn't worry about what the UK audiences think, Alzer. They've long since moved the dial.

I know. Kids will be can we go to smyths. Parents look at watch and check schedule. Sorry we can’t go now because they’ve to do the worse possible thing they could do to avoid hearing him

"Hoover" is in fact a very common generic term for vacuum cleaner in the UK, just as it is here. I worked on a project with Dyson, and it was the absolute bane of their lives that everyone kept referring to their products as "hoovers".
You're really trying much too hard to find fault with Tubridy, and you don't need to. There's plenty of things to criticise the man for - a list as long as your arm - but using the word "hoover" as a generic noun or verb in the UK is not one of them.
My dad's family actually used the verb to electrolux !
At 20 past 12 today, Tubridy did another one of his 50,000 thoughts in one link - rambled between criticising a listener for liking "custard cream marshmallows" (and yet saying in the end he would have to try them?)
And blithering aimlessly over to slagging off French Leader Macron for spending time in "Le Gym" and asking us do we really need to see his muscles?
Everything Tubridy says lacks any real conviction i.e. you can't slag off custard cream flavoured anything til you have tried it. In the same way if you are a puny nerd stick insect, then do you need to slag off a world leader for showing his physique? It is all so uncomfortable, insecure, disjointed, weird and a rather awkward laboursome tiring listen. Tubridy's style, delivery and content hasn't altered since January 2nd and he is sounding worse than ever. There is absolutely no incentive on his part neither to improve on air or re-invent himself and so is sinking faster than the Mi Amigo after it ran aground.
When will Mike Cass and Scott Taunton finally call a halt to this insanity and Dyson up this mess?
I do occasionally drop in on his show a couple of times a week to analyse and I do actually try to give him the benefit of the doubt. It seems I am disappointed a little more with each listen.
Ah, come on now, B. You’ve never given him the benefit of the doubt. I’m very surprised you’re still giving “rundowns” of the show, now that he’s moved from RTÉ.
