What's the leaking got to do with it?
Look, I don't think ya can ban professions, whether it's your career or in some cases accidental, from seeking election. That would be a slippery slope in my eyes. Where do you draw the line? Lets follow the landlord example. If someone gets elected in this fantasy plan who is not a landlord, what do they do if their family are? Or their wife? Or their best buddy? There's no way I can see anything like that being enforceable, being a realistic prospect and based on that, I think the notion is silly.
Politicians have always tried to do things to benefit themselves and those close to them or those who look after them. That will never change. The place to sort those is at the ballot box
You asked should he not be involved with health, being a doctor. I gave an example of troubling involvement.
No, I agree. But no politician should be allowed to be involved in policy that benefits them privately.
Thats why we need to make it difficult for them. Accountability would be nice for starters.
I think that ambition is fantasy. Every politician is going to do things to benefit themselves, their family/close friends or those who'll look after them (lets call them sponsors). We have accountability, hence why we know some are landlords. Some of the politicians though try to hide stuff and they should be removed from office and banned from government. Either be transparent and honest, or piss off!

So we should stop all building just in case a issues occurs after they are built? I don't see the relevance of that post
Yes I do put blame at DCC door for housing in social housing, 2014-2019 was the period when the housing crisis accelerated and we are playing catch up now. Ending up with less social units in 2019 than in 2014 means in 2020 then we are already at a huge negative.
Who would you blame for DCC ending up with less units despite having 300m available to invest?
'why does anyone invest in anything then if they are "handsomely paid" '
Then you say my post is nonsense
I think it is nonsense. You're rolling into weird territory where your salary dictates if you can make investments or not to possibly further your wealth
Worth a read on the Business Post.
Confidential memo to finance minister warns of inability to meet needs of country
Officials in the Department of Finance said the target for housing will need to be changed from 33,000 to 50,000 homes per year
Finance minister Michael McGrath has been warned by his officials in private documents that the government’s housing targets of 33,000 homes are “significantly below” the actual requirement of 50,000 homes per year.
Targets included in the government’s Housing for All strategy are completely inadequate to meet demand for housing, officials have said.
-------------
Even their nonsense "plans" are built on quicksand.
Something anyone with any grasp of maths knew long ago. The population increases of 100,000 a year of the recent few years would require 35,000 odd housing units being built each year to accomodate them alone, nevermind any new housing going to actually address the housing crisis or replace existing stock.
A public revision to the target will force the government to stop claiming propaganda level success on meeting their housing target each year though I guess.
No. That would be foolish.
We require the ability to block unsuitable builds. We don't need to wait until construction is complete to know if new builds are a fire hazzard or not fit for purpose. I'm no construction expert, however, it is my understanding that they generally work off plans rather than designing as they go.
Okay. That council in that 5 year period didn't perform, (I'll take your word). Are you suggesting it has a bearing on the way the state tackles housing and the situation today? Are you seriously whittling down a discussion on the housing situation to a council who operated for 5 years, almost 5 years ago? Seems deluded and apologist.
They aren't even hitting the wrong targets.
They did beat the housing for all target of 29k last year and will exceed it again this year also.
It also looks like they will lift the housing for all targets to 50k pa.
A young man sleeping in his car for two and a half years in Cork. . . . This is FF/FG's legacy.
https://www.independent.ie/regionals/cork/news/young-cork-man-has-lived-in-car-for-over-two-years-because-he-cannot-get-housing/a1610408039.html
Setting an artificially low, arbitrary, target of 29k units a year and boasting of success when its met is pointless at best, deliberately massaged optics/propaganda otherwise, when reliable estimates are we need closer to 60k a year.
Did you read the article or just the headline?
Guy wants to bring his dangerous dogs that are on a restricted owners list into a council estate, ya feck out of here with that.
There is plenty of valid reasons you could find to make that post about FF/FG, this article isnt one of them
I did read the article.
What is mentioned is that this young man suffers from seizures and he needs the dogs to assist him when they occur. . . . yet you conveniently left that out didn't you?
Another reason why he has his dogs is that they are a source of comfort to him as he lives in his car. Is that too much for you to take?
You also seem to be inferring that he is unworthy of renting or owning property on the basis of having two dogs?
Sick to death of FF/FG supporters defending the indefensible.
They are still the offical housing for all targets.
I was replying to a poster who said even the official targets were not reached.
Poster was wrong. The targets were reached & exceeded.
Whether the official target is sufficient is irrelevant to the point.
I left nothing out, if you allow one person to bring those dogs into a council house, then everyone will then try play a pity card to get them.
Any reason......yes these dogs arent let in social housing and for very very valid reasons
If he had to cocker spaniels instead of two pitbulls, ya i imagine he wouldn't struggle so much
Again, that article has nothing to do with FF/FG besides wanting to have a dig at them, maybe improve your comprehension of the article
Are you stating that poor people aren't allowed to own pets and simultaneously avail of social housing?
I don't need to have a dig at FF/FG as those guys couldn't run a piss up in a brewery - so leave them to their own devices.
Again, he has dogs on the restricted owners list, that is the sole reason he is living in his car.
So yes i am saying he shouldnt have pitbulls and avail of social housing
Him living in his car is entirely of his own making, he would 100% have emergency accommodation if not for having .....pitbulls
If he had rabbits, brother would be fine, pitbulls no
He can't get housing because of a shortage of accommodation, not because he has pitbulls.
Wrong, he cant get housing because of his dogs. He actually says this in the article. But of with you on your anti-government brigade, it was fun
one account, few posts . enjoy ::)
"Though it would have been easier for him to find accommodation on his own, he said that it was vital that his dogs stayed with him."
How are you ignoring that he has pitbulls is the real question here lol.
You could find a million things wrong with FF/FG but this isnt one of them, this is a guy who in all honesty is trying to bully his way into a social house and using the media to do so, fools sadly will lap it up
SF also wouldn't give this guy a council house and they would 100% correct in not doing so, similarly the greens, similarly every other party.
Anyways enjoy your pointless vendetta, hope you find a house for your dogs soon
Some seriously nasty people/trolls on this website.
It was Joan Burton who had to hide in her car when criminal thugs stopped her from leaving.
Tin foil hat nonsense.
Yes. The very idea that any minister profits off the policies they make is absurd......
He didn't run in last election and took up the job in 2022
Back to google and see what else you can find :-)
Where you looking for a sitting minister to be moonlighting like Dara Murphy?
You made the comment, back it up
As I said at the time "tin foil hat" stuff, best to leave it on twitter
