For the sake of optics could they not have waited until the morning to declare a result. It's not as if this was electronic voting. Paper ballots and their counting takes a bit more time than 3 hours.......idiots!
Translated? - Putin says Russians want war and support him because he provides it.
It's believed that if the Cobasna weapons were exploded, the effects would be the same as a 7'5 earthquake. Easy to see why no one is eager to recover them, under the circumstances.
Of course, you will always get a better turn out at gunpoint.
WOW .. BBC Corespondent asked Putin a pretty sharp Q re Navalny and others .. some balls. Putin answering at the moment
Interesting ..
"Russia knows about the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine, but they are dying there in large numbers." - President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
Can I ask, what TV programme was that on?
I had not heard of Cobasna, really interesting, thank you.
Last point about drones.
They will decide how this war ends.
It was SKY NEWS coverage of post election Putin presser in a hall where he had Qs from press people which included this NBC guy. At the time it was a live feed. If I find it again I will post here @igCorcaigh
OK .. found it. I got one letter wrong .. It was an NBC reporter not BBC. Here it is
Demented pigs
Strange ,no comments in that twitter feed..
An evil beyond comprehension
Yeah it would be good to know putins response in English
Here
And here ( translator )
Farcical….. so strange…. Up there on his podium talking shite…. One of the biggest murderers in the history of civilisation….
Would like to see the translation of what Putin said, but the expressions on the faces of those listening...
EDIT: Oh, just spotted @aidanodr's post now, thank you.
Putin seemed to be talking about some possible prisoner transfer deal with the West regarding Nalany when he was alive, is that what I heard?
And the rest of it was a throw back at the question of democracy, by saying that what is happening in the US is not democratic either, with the use of the courts and organs of administration to interfere with elections.
A reference to the ongoing Trump saga, I assume.
I haven't watched a single second of Putin's comments: why bother? We won't learn anything new, anything insightful about him and sure enough all we'll get in return is high blood pressure. He ran his little farce, got his result and I'll be damn sure I won't give it any more oxygen than it deserves (IE, none)
Meanwhile... this is the meat of the thing. Naked empirical ambition. The EU will be dragged into a war before it knows it, id it doesn't get itself together - and maybe this is Macron's thinking.
Apart from all the deserved mockery of Putin, it's actually a pretty depressing day. 6 more years of this vile, gloating dictator as he probably gets more and more deranged.
Watched 20 Days in Mariupol yesterday and it really brings home the horror and senselessness of the war which is going to go on and on and on
That makes his job in those areas much easier as he now knows the number of people that he has to ‘move on’ ie 6% of the population!!!!!!!
Depressing for sure, but hardly unexpected? We would have known he'll leave the Kremlin feet first - barring a coup, but that's an impossible prediction to make. Prigozhin came as close but I feel not all the truth about that was known.
Here's the rub: I don't think he's deranged. Donald Trump is deranged and a deeply troubled insecure man, yet I think Putin is a psychopath. Splitting hairs mind you either way cos the world is on balance a worse place for his presence and interference
A psychopath certainly, but I think deranged is not totally off the mark given that his ideology is deeply informed by paranoia and conspiracy thinking.
Either way, as you say, definitions here or there what it boils down to is that he is a horrendous individual who is remarkably good at causing chaos and conflict in many regions throughout the world.
The thought of him doing that for another 6 (maybe 12!) years is grim.
He has total power and what seems like zero opposition in reality. Grim outlook for the whole region.
Why did he bother with the elections. Is it simply a way to pacify the public? Surely everyone knows that the elections are a fraud.
bemoans the undemocratic persecution of Donald Trump( which is all perfectly legal and very restrained) but prefers Joe Biden for president .
6% of those who voted is not 6% of the population. For a start, what % of the population actually voted?
In some ways I'd see Russian elections as more of a way to swear allegiance to the current Czar and state. We know their democracy is a joke, but I'd not be surprised if they ran actual elections and he won anyway. Maybe not with such an obvious majority but...
Doubly so in times of war, sorry SMO. Conflict and fear of invasion, actual or cultural makes nations tend to band together and usually behind a "Great Leader". It's one reason why such "Great Leaders" tend to like such conflict, real or imagined.
Sure, himself and Netanyahu would be similar in that latter respect, Thatcher was at the same game in the Falklands. Start/ engage in a war and have the huddled masses gather around me.
I don't listen much to what he says, changed the channel. I'm tired of his mangled version of reality. Vintage Russian gobbledygook.
