Yea, a call out of the blue is someone you are usually not in contact with. I'm not following the argument but that is what that means.
Edit; at least when i've heard it used. Like for example, greg (a friend from college i never hear from) called me out of the blue.
Are we still persisting with this rubbish that Jack Crowley, the former heir apparent and now first choice 10 for Ireland, a guy who was given his first start after playing barely a handful of games for Munster, has somehow been given a raw deal by the Irish coaches? The absolute state of this forum.
Farrells loyalty to his players is a massive strength but its hard to say that he hasnt been over loyal to some players and might have benefited from being a bit more ruthless at times.
I get it, they were all set for Frisch to get capped and the victimhood and finger pointing that would go along with it.
With him barely in the French camp long enough to unpack his bags there is a need to find something else to feel hard done by, whether it is completely fabricated and imagined or not.
A strength yeah but loyalty works the other way too. As those players get toward retirement and should be managed out we could get some hangers on for a while to the overall detriment of the team. I hope not.
I wonder was he just asked back in or is there a late injury concern to Crowley ?
Frawley and H Byrne are our only other cover at 10 in the camp, it makes a lot of sense to have Ross in there.
i think 3 (taking frawley as a 10 even though i prefer him elsewhere) 10s would be more than enough tbh
I disagree, no other fan base in the world has the expectation that the national senior team coaches provide consistent private coddling for their upcoming players, including those who haven't even broken into their provincial first team.
Given that you're making assumptions from very brief quotes, you don't even know what you're annoyed at.
Apparently Frawley was back with Leinster this week
i thought he was with the Irish squad but fair enough if he wasnt
Can't win in this forum.
I think that has happened already with some players. Earls over Nash in the RWC, Sexton not coming off in the QF.
What happens POM over the next 12 months will be interesting. He is still contributing on the pitch to a decent level for 50 mins and most likely a lot off it but there is a clear replacement for the 6 jersey.
There are other players as well that need looking at and some hard questions asked about Cian Healy, Bundee Aki, mccloskey Conor Murray, James ryan, Iain Hendrson etc etc all who are fast approaching the end of their international careers.
James Ryan is not remotely close to the end of his international career. McCloskey has been excellent for Ireland under Farrell and has plenty left in the tank, although there's talk he's off to France.
Im well aware of what im annoyed at
James Ryan? Are you high? He's 27! He'll be around for a few more years, injury aside.
Surely HIA related and not dropped
I'd presume so but it wasn't clear either way.
With the arrival of Joe Mccarthy to the first team and Leinster bringing in Snyman its very possible that Ryans appearances for club and country take a downward trajectory in the next 12 -18 months.
Did someone mention an injury-riddled lock?
<061 number calling....>
Ryan has been a massive disappointment given his early promise.
Not a hope. Snyman will play when the boys are away. He'll bench when they're back.
What utter fecking arrogance.
Good to see Farrell going back to 5/3 . 6/2 backfired and was a mistake. Still feel it was a major mistake to make POM captain meaning he has to start him when I would have Baird starting there every day but I suppose he just has to see that one out now so hopefully POM goes well today. Hopefully lesson learnt on Murray and JGP will play the full 80.
Leaving POM on the field long enough to get carded was a huge error. He wasn't having a very effective game anyway and he simply shouldn't have still been on approaching the 60th minute.
Having said that, we were in huge trouble the moment Nash went off. They scored because of the incomplete tackle and then the all the reshuffling in the backs, JGP on the wing, Murray coming on etc.
For me this Irish selection shows Farrell in a bad light, we lost, he got queried on the bench split and why are players like Murray and Healy still there and why was Pom selected as captain and why given how poor the lineout was in the World Cup is O’Connell still on the management team
instead of actually taking on board those valid questions he has doubled down by picking the same team.
the England loss and the fallout from it could cost Farrell his job unless he changes his behaviour, loyalty to his players and management team is a great trait but Farrell is being quiet ignorant and over protective of certain players and that never ends well for a manager.
Baird and Conan should be starting today and Casey should be on the bench. Farrell must know this and by not doing so is alienating Baird and Conan and casey
farrell seems to me to be making same mistakes as all previous managers, not building a squad for the World Cup and not being cut throat enough
Here's to a good performance today, this team is well capable of putting a good score on scotland & wrap up the championship which I would be delighted with on the back of a slam last year( people seem to forget how difficult it is to win consecutive championships)
Onwards then to the summer tour & autumn internationals where will play all southern hemisphere teams.
This thread has gotten so bogged down on who should/shouldn’t play yet AF has used 30+ players with I suspect at least 6 more to be tested over the upcoming fixtures to see their international mettle
C'mon Ireland
We don't know if Farrell has changed his mind on the 6-2 split or if Frawley wasn't available so Andy couldn't continue with the experiment.
This is mad, from start to finish but in particular anyone thinking Farrell could lose his job
Nonsense, every bit of it.
