I think that ambition is fantasy. Every politician is going to do things to benefit themselves, their family/close friends or those who'll look after them (lets call them sponsors). We have accountability, hence why we know some are landlords. Some of the politicians though try to hide stuff and they should be removed from office and banned from government. Either be transparent and honest, or piss off!
You asked should he not be involved with health, being a doctor. I gave an example of troubling involvement.
No, I agree. But no politician should be allowed to be involved in policy that benefits them privately.
Thats why we need to make it difficult for them. Accountability would be nice for starters.
What's the leaking got to do with it?
Look, I don't think ya can ban professions, whether it's your career or in some cases accidental, from seeking election. That would be a slippery slope in my eyes. Where do you draw the line? Lets follow the landlord example. If someone gets elected in this fantasy plan who is not a landlord, what do they do if their family are? Or their wife? Or their best buddy? There's no way I can see anything like that being enforceable, being a realistic prospect and based on that, I think the notion is silly.
Politicians have always tried to do things to benefit themselves and those close to them or those who look after them. That will never change. The place to sort those is at the ballot box
Why does anyone invest in anything then if they are "handsomely paid". Nonsense argument again. You're now saying that depending on your salary, you can't have side hustles.
No, it wasn't.
"This is all just tin foil hat stuff now. The number of LL is about a 5th based on media reports."
Even worse. You are trying to blame one council, for a period, several years ago, for the housing crisis being were it is.
Depends on what is being blocked.
A good example would be Robert Troy. A landlord who attempted to push policy that favours landlords.
Yes. If she owned a private school and was pushing policy to favour private schools, that would be different.
The Healy-Rae's are grifters.
Leo Varadkar should be involved, when minister of health and in a steering capacity as a senior member of government, but he shouldn't be leaking confidential negotiation documents between a union and the state, to a rival union headed by a friend, no.
I don't think you understand the issue of conflict of interest.
A TD is handsomely paid, why do they need to have another salary?
teachers take a career break and are not making money from teaching. Do accountants continue to practise while in government?
Banning been a LL when you have a small number is going to be a big problem why? if you want to be a TD then it's a career choice and plenty have to give up other thigns for their career.
Why would we compare race/religion with been a LL?
Tin foil hat was regards the HSE.
I didn't say "some councils"< i refered DCC which is the capital and with a growing population ended up with less units.
I am giving reasons, along with poor government tracking. Also the blocking of properties at planning has had a huge issues
FYI
Nah I don't go running to the mods as I know your posts will not be removed unlike others.
Nice try and getting me to say something, but you must try harder.
Nice that you waste you time researching my posting history, did you use the front end search function or something else?
I find it funny someone people think that people are only anti government on the web, they obviously are missing protests and electoral results.
Oh and don't worry I am quite able to tell government apologists to go fook themselves in the real world.
The older you get the less you tolerate bullshyte.
As others have said on ignore.
But the policy is mainly for tenants, not landlords right?
Should Norma Foley be pushing policies for education and she a teacher? What about the Healy Raes pushing for pubs, drink driving, rural links when they own pubs? Should Leo be involved in doctor contracts and he a doctor?
It's a stupid argument and suggestion.
If a politician is pushing policy because it makes them money, not because its in the public interest, that's a problem.
No I didn't. I did not make a statement of fact. I voiced a belief.
Your tin foil hat reference was regarding housing. There certainly are many factual accounts of politicians making money there.
Blame both, mostly the government.
Yeah, some council many years ago is why we could only find accommodation for people sleeping in tents on the street before the tourists saw them paddy's weekend.
You're full of ever shifting apologies for bad management.
This talk of banning landlords being in government is bullshit. What's next then? Publicans? Farmers? Accountants? Teachers? It's a stupid suggestion in my eyes and leads to a slippery slope of excluding certain areas from ever being in government. We don't ban anybody from any profession, religion, race or anything but because of houses, ye want to ban landlords. Crazy
Playback was very good this morning on the referendum fallout and the disconnect from the public. Lisa Chambers in particular got destroyed. Callans Kicks did a funny sketch on it.
You made something up with nothing to back it up in regards to the HSE. So let's close that one as tin foil hat
Let's be clear on this, as far as I am concerned no TD should be a LL. End of story. If they want to be in government then sell up or do whatever.
In terms of LL the legislation that has been passed for years was based on what tenants wanted, not on LL, hence why so many leave renting. If the government wanted to change everything to suit the LL then maybe you might have a point but they haven't. They have gone with the requests of tenants and tenant organisations, no matter how many people told them it was the wrong way to go. Including the banning of bedsit etc.
The housing crisis is well discussed on multiple threads, multiple reasons caused it. But give you one example, DCC from 2014-2019 reduced the number of units they had available for social housing. This was when the capital grew. The government gave them a war chest of circa 300m to get houses built etc so they would have more social housing. They done nothing. So growing population and reducing social housing in the main city, that has a knock on affect to everything in Dublin which we are still trying to recover.
Now who is to blame here? the government or DCC?
Must know the arse is going to fall out the the corporate tax take.
Folks
i have blocked this green excuse. Please ignore him/her as I think the clown is trying to either get people banned or the thread shut down.
DON’T give him/her bait.
Mod
Warned for this
Hardly tin foil hat territory. Robert Troy, Niall Collins, TD landlords and yes Healy Rae.
I always said it was my belief. I'd be shocked if there were no politicians making money off the health crisis.
Oh no a random stranger on the internet has posted something while hiding behind a screen 😂
In reality if I was standing in front of you now you wouldn't say boo to me so you think anyone cares when you post this nonsense.
Grow up
Quick look into post history and you are complaining the site is dying, then you are going around posting the above. have a long hard look at yourself and maybe you might realise nobody wants to deal with little people typing abusing while hiding behind a keyboard. That's why people are leaving boards.
P.S Im sure you will run to the mods now to get me banned while at the same time complaining to mods the site is dying.
Also the majority if not all legislation in regards to rental properties has been implemented after the demands of tenants and tenant organisations.
This is all just tin foil hat stuff now. The number of LL is about a 5th based on media reports. That's not anywhere close to a majority to plus legislation in to make money, plus as I said the biggest is an independent.
In terms of the HSE, just sounds like you made something up and then claimed you are confident in it. The internet is full of people confident the World is flat, doesn't mean it is flat
I don't know they are making money off health, but I expect they are.
I was showing that the private market is brought into the public, with health, as with housing.
Do you think it impossible or a flight of complete fantasy to suspect politicians are invested in private health and approving policy that helps them profit privately? They do it in housing.
It must be really hard having to counteract all those naysayers.
I am of course sure someone somewhere appreciates the work that goes into spreading the gospel.
There are always job for the lickspittles.
Thing is the people have heard all the excuses, they have heard all the bullsh** and they will give their answer if the major parties dare go out canvassing for upcoming elections.
Perhaps they will hide in their cars ala one particular high ranking minister I have recently heard about.
You mentioned making money from HSE. I have said before but all TD's shouldn't be allowed to be LL's. Plus I think you will find the biggest one isn't in the government parties
So you haven't explained how they are making money off the HSE?
No idea what a link to the covid crisis has to do with anything.
They make money, often legitimately, off housing.
"I would imagine it's not as easy to see how they are making money off the health crisis, but I'm confident they are."
Who is making money off the HSE?
If you mean the government then how? as you are confident they are could you give examples
I just know they've failed miserably on housing.
They don't seem keen on implementing Slaintecare. I would imagine it's not as easy to see how they are making money off the health crisis, but I'm confident they are.
Maybe the incorrect phrase for housing but certainly I would say money is thrown at the HSE
The housing thread this has been discussed in detail and like it or not the plans by the government are the most robust compared to what others have put forward.
You said they 'throw money' at the problems.
"I don't want them to throw our money."
Not as they are. No.
