Update on the incursion into Russia today
Roman Starovoit, the governor of Russia’s Kursk region, which is on the border with Ukraine, said earlier Tuesday that a “sabotage and reconnaissance group” had tried to break into the Kursk region but failed.
Earlier, Russia’s defense ministry said seven regions were targeted by a wave of Ukrainian drones overnight, with attacks carried out against the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Leningrad, Moscow, Oryol and Tula regions.
BUT seems they are still alive and kicking
What's needed are big strikes in Moscow and Petersburg, preferably in visible areas on key infrastructure. I don't think we'll see it, those cities are presumably too well protected nowadays
Russians are panicky
Russian peace.
I'll accuse you of banging the "send the Ukrainian men to war" drum. Quit it. It's been done to death. It's not happening. No country is going to send people who left seeking asylum and to get away from war to go back.
All Putin's oligarch friends have private armies.
Even the space agency that works with NASA has their own private militia.
Article above is about the Spartak ultras and their associations with Espanola.
It's not all bad news on that front though.
Putin's heroes.
He was the middle man for supplying russian gas into EU for a longtime and got very rich. Buying up newspapers and have them pump out pro russian scutter would fall right under his remit too. Majority owner of West Ham too jesus.
Macron is to make a speech on Thursday related to Ukraine. Could be one to watch.
Mearsheimer is a gobsh*te. Saw him on a podcast saying NATO and the US is responsible for pushing Putin into war and that Putin and Russia have no imperial ambitions.
You could argue about point one to some degree, but Putin himself has repeatedly compared himself to past Russian emperors and made it clear he believes Ukraine has no right to sovereignty, so Mearsheimer is promoting absolute lies.
Thanks, I didn't know that.
At the risk of being accused of banging the same old Uncle Sam drum, we and other EU states can also assist by repatriating Ukrainian men & women wanted for service back in Ukraine. It's well within our collective or individual gift and of direct practical help. It's as obvious an immediate practical step as anything. Ireland doesn't have the capacity to manufacture shells etc but we help in other practical ways like this.
Queue the usual vested interests who get enraged by the mere suggestion of this, I wonder why?
@Pa ElGrande "If the situation is not so bleak why did Macron suddenly came out with this?"
Of course Ukraine could do with more of everything but Macron's suggestion of sending troops is not a precise measurement of the situation on the ground. Maybe Macron is preparing Europe for Trump's (possible) exit from Ukraine.
That paper was bought by Czech billionare Daniel Křetínský and is now considered right wing. The editor-in-chief Natacha Polony is active on twitter and loves to post whattabourty and bemoans when news outlets like her own are called far right (https://www.cnews.fr/).
They are bascially FOX News with a French twist and I wouldn't believe a word printed by them.
Yer man that shared the original link is a Putin loving geebag too btw.
We have already seen what the Russian peace is like, so no thanks. If Ukraine is to go under Putin, they will make sure that Russia goes under too. And as for the prophecies of Mearsheimer, he's not a guy that I'm overly impressed with, even on a good day.
French president Macron has recently pushed for an engagement of foreign troops in Ukraine. If the situation is not so bleak why did Macron suddenly came out with this? He does not appear to have gotten any public traction among other EU leaders so far. The information we get is cloaked in the fog of war, presumably there are more realistic discussions going on in military circles about possible outcomes, why all of a sudden should the British public should be ready to fight Putin? and Poland won't rule out NATO force in Ukraine, all we see from the outside are political maneuverings. Zaluzhnyi is to become the Ukrainian ambassador to Britain, presumably that's to keep him from being a domestic political threat to Ukrainian president Zelensky, like how an Irish taoiseach sends popular ministers to Brussels to avoid leadership challenges.
Obviously we don't get to see Irish department of foreign affairs briefings, there is a curious move to remove part of the triple lock, why now? that is not necessarily a commitment to send Irish soldiers to war, but likely done as part of preparing for operations in anticipation of a support role in case of a much wider conflict.
Some uncomfortable facts for Russia
UAF might not be finished with today's events
I'm not defending that article. There may be some truth in it but things may not be as bleak as it says. I would not take it as a literal analysis of the real situation on the ground. The situation is still fluid and, as usual, depends on the west's support. Russia is losing 1000 soldiers every day and a train load of equipment. Ukraine may be able to hold the lines until more shells arrive. If Ukraine can hold out they may be able to break Russia economically.
Putting on my armchair general hat, based on the reports I see, there are currently almost no defenses west of Avdevka and the Ukrainians are absolutely desperate, the obvious ruse they have spent a couple of years preparing for a Russian attack from the Belgarod direction and they probably feel they will give the Russians a bloody nose should the Russians engage. It's a desperate bid to buy time to try get Russian resources diverted in an effort to stabilise their lines and cobble together defenses in the south.
You are at the very least a Russian sympathiser if not a full on Russian bot(only here most likely to counteract the rake of bad news for Russia recently). Every post you've left here has been pro kremlin and anti Ukranian. So I'm going to break from the way I usually deal with posters and not read a single extra word you post. But thanks for the offer.
You can read the link posted by zv2 above.
"To date, the Ukrainian general staff does not have a critical mass of land forces capable of inter-arms maneuver at the corps level capable of challenging their Russian counterparts to break through its defensive line," concludes this confidential defense report, according to which "the gravest error of analysis and judgment would be to continue to seek exclusively military solutions to stop the hostilities". A French officer summarizes: "It is clear, given the forces present, that Ukraine cannot win this war militarily." source
My thinking is not aligned with Mearsheimer's thinking.
Ya alright steady on there Ivan.
. . . . promised Ukraine and failed to provide it. . . .That reads exactly like what what John J. Mearsheimer said 2 years ago: "The West is leading Ukraine down the primrose path and the end result is that Ukraine is going to get wrecked."
A good story even if not true
The west promised Ukraine security and failed to provide it. They must do this now or they will be seen to be cowards for decades to come. The refrain will be; The west is weak, the west is weak.
Morale on the ground among the Ukrainians is low. War is expensive, €10K is serious money for young lads in Ukraine to come up with, you can bet there are families pooling resources to get their sons out.
Pentagon needs Congress to hand over $10B to replace weapons sent to Ukraine
DOD officials expect funding to replenish the equipment the U.S. has already sent to Ukraine to be included in President Joe Biden’s supplemental request, which provides billions of additional dollars in aid for Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel. But that legislation has languished on Capitol Hill for months amid partisan bickering.
2 Abrams tanks lost in Ukraine, one with drones, the other with a T72. Here’s is video where a man goes through the upgrades and addresses the issue of "logistics" where another fantasy is indulged among armchair generals: That we in the West can just rapidly make more weapons and ammunition. Reality is that takes several YEARS to make a new factory, especially for things like metal working and explosives casting, any such factory in Ukraine will be blown up at the time it first starts to operate, and NATO has already drained the stockpiles globally for any artillery sizes used in Ukraine. So no amount of money is going to make new barrels and new artillery rounds any time soon. You go to war with the generals and the army you have, AND with the FACTORIES you have. . . .
. . . or have not, those factories need materials, the processing of much has been outsourced to China. Russia is largely self sufficient in all of the material they need and the rest they can source via China or Azerbaijan (i.e. Western black markets). The West is largely dependent on Russia (fuel, metals like Titanium & Uranium, nitrates) and China (pretty much all other manufactures) with whom the US are talking up picking a fight.
The lunacy of not realising how dependent our supply chains in general and our military supply chain in particular actually is, on Russia & China, and then picking a fight with Russia and trying to start one with China is just bizarre.
We have been getting the boiling frog treatment, we are being slowly dragged into the war whether we like it or not. First the Javelins, then the artillery, then the tanks, the SAMs, the planes, but still Ukrainians need men to fight the Russians, that's why you see comments since the new year from retired NATO generals talking about lack of readiness. Industrial scale war burns through resources like nothing else, wunderwaffe won't win the war, they need boots on the ground to take territory back and Ukranians are low on morale and men.
Indeed and I already corrected myself that I got the wrong battalion; the ones who are neo Nazis were not involved in the recent actions.
Least one of us can admit when we speak too soon, maybe something to think about, cos not sure what else you think can come of this as you're obviously spoiling for a fight.
Doubt anyone else is entertained by your flippant antagonism so adiós. Assuming you bothered reading this far.
