Would like Ringrose on wing, Baird to start, then subs of Casey( really should be Blade , but it wont be, may not even be Casey ) McCloskey , Harry Byrne . Then Henderson, Conan, Jager/ Bealham( prefer Bealham but they like Jager , Healy and Kelleher .
I would suspect minimal changes outside of injury/concussion
Not sure how many changes there will be, but there needs to be some changes for saturdays game.
I would swap Hendo and McCarthy onto the bench. Possibly Behlam for Furlong. POM off at 50 mins if not benched for Baird altogether.
Reverting to a 5/3 split allows Casey back on the bench. Think Ringrose might make the bench as well, but that might be harsh on Mccloskey.
Conan landed on his neck after being hit low by Genge (thought TMO might "check, check" that for a 'no arms in the tackle'). Conan was down for long enough to suggest that a HIA would result. Apparently not.
I was waiting for the uproar over Frisch
He’s been capture (flat) capped by RTE.
This thread needs Zebo!
I think he's crocked though.
Makes me angry these stupid comments from coaches. Sends out all the wrong messages. Just say - we are taking it day by day. The players are been closely monitored and looked after.
They better not play.
Fair play to Waboso. Ruled himself out.
Im not a doctor, but I would rather not see players return to play 7 days after being out cold.
Larmour might even start. It's him or Ringrose for 14. Ireland really missed Ringrose at 13 v England.
He's just not match sharp at this stage.
Maybe it's mind games but ...
Yeah I'm assuming Harry will be on the bench. Just wondering if they'll bring Prendergast or Ross in for the week.
Larmour is an option as he can cover a number of positions
One of the Byrnes (prob Harry) and Ringrose (or SMcC) in a 5-3.
Id also pick Casey this time.
Based on my viewing of the incidents they won't be playing
Just because a player was at training doesn't mean they are going to play, so we would have to wait and see
My post was just trying to remember what the rules are
I wonder who'll take Frawley's spot then? Prendergast was in the extended squad, but there's a big difference between being the 4th choice guy in a camp and being one injury away from the bench in a championship decider.
There is no way either of them should be allowed play.
Nash looked like he was in a car crash. Frawley stumbled when trying to get up and then chased the play right across the field. Totally out of sorts (and out of position for the Furbank try)
I think this is the latest.
Failed HIA 1 BUT Pass HIA 2 & 3 - Player can return to play on DAY 7.
Player must have "No concussion history" & "They will need to complete the 6 stages of their individualised rehabilitation AND consult with an Independent Concussion Consultant (ICC) prior to an earliest return to play of 7 days."
There is also the scenario of return to play "less than 10 days after their injury" and "earliest return to play of 12 days" as of July 1st 2022
https://www.world.rugby/the-game/player-welfare/medical/concussion/hia-protocol
I thought, and could be wrong it depends on the HIA checks, they have 3 isn't it and if they pass the second and 3rd they can be available but it's me trying to remember chats about this from ages ago
That makes allot more sense. I can rest my head (a bit) Thanks!
England only went down to 14 before their own line out that led to their DG.
Would think the same.
I'd say that's end of session training sorted on a Mon/Tues for the next 12months. 2 minute drill
Some game in 2013
75:49 Irish lineout on the halfway line.
77:11 Conor Murray box kick deep into NZopponents half....
I thought it was a mandatory 12 days off for failing a HIA nowadays.
The team have stopped talking about it, maybe we can too? I agree with Podge - right call, poor execution. It’s called sport, not winning. Insert cliche of your choice here,
Nash is hardly even an option for the weekend after being sparked? Frawls back at Leinster means 5-3 anyway.
Murray had no option but to kick to touch and avoid being blocked down, the way the ball was presented left no room to pass for another phase, Conan landed on his neck, and the more mobile back rows piled in behind him, Murray had no one to pass to to continue with another phase.
It was simply a kick to touch under pressure that didn’t get maximum distance. What happened after that was far more important, the defence should have held out, discipline left us down too.
The decision to kick was probably made (by the team leadership group) before we took the lineout, if Lowe was considered an option for kicking, they would have had him as a receiver from Murry and not rolling the dice with one or two phases in trying to get the ball to him
Definitely an option.
78:13 Ireland went 1 phase from lineout.
78:32 Ireland kick to touch.
Most important thing to note is England only had 14 players!! (& it was a rep loose forward)
The disappointing aspect was that all of the players involved were from the 6-2 bench.
...but maul? (even a meter or two) and try and drag another English forward in...
Ireland took a very conservative option. It wasn't good clock management.
Easy for me to say!
Injury update (of sorts)
On Saturday he was kicking sh*te from the moment he came on. He is also 5 years older and a few injuries down the road so doesn't seem to have the power. And crucially, what you do when 12-0 up, 16 minutes into a game and what you do 2 points up with 90 seconds remaining might not necessarily be the same thing
Conor Murray is well able to nail those for 30-35m to bring play up to halfway and beyond. He has been one of the best in the world at it over the last 15 years. Not making the 10m line is out of the ordinary for him.
Here's a near identical one from him in the 2019 RWC where he makes it to the Scottish 10m line from inside his own 22: https://x.com/Murray_Kinsella/status/1176171871579955201?s=20
I'd imagine that's the outcome they were looking for here. They didn't need to even get it to the England 10m line. Getting it to halfway was probably going to be sufficient. England would either have to set up a maul or move it to their backline that would be receiving the ball well inside their own half which allows us run a different defensive set when it's outside of penalty distance.
I have listened to a lot of ex Rugby players since Sunday and they are all of the opinion that Murray had no option but to kick the problem was it was not executed to gain maximum advantage it was a systems failure so to single out Murray is a tad unfair. At the time i shouted at the TV "What are you doing" but I have never played Test Rugby so I am prepared to accept that others know better than I do in this instance
