If they honestly pull all funding from down ballot races as they are saying they will this will be fascinating to watch. Anyone who knows about what the GOP has been up to in local politics for the past decade will understand how insanely stupid a move that would be. They have positioned themselves and worked the systems perfectly to have huge control at lower levels in many many states which has been a key thing that's let them continue to do so well at higher levels as that control then filters up through the system and helps them in countless ways. They are about to throw that all away if they follow through with this idea.

If Project 2025 supposedly has a real plan, and if removing down ballot funding is part of it, then that's pretty terrifying because it basically means that their model of political control will be centered on the president and representatives won't be a factor.

It's quite something how we've gone from January 2021 to now. Back then, pundits were confidently predicting that the Republican party would cut Trump loose, and they did it again after the 2022 midterms, and I remember on this very forum, the opinion was rife that Trump was finished. In fact, Trump did look a bit defeated after the 2022 midterms, and he announced his bid to regain the presidency to a less than rapturous response. It looked like he was a busted flush for a minute especially when was supposedly polling behind Ron DeSantis. Since then, however, his stranglehold over the party has become all-encompassing. Although it's an unwelcome political comeback for most right-thinking people, it's still a remarkable one, and probably warrants a documentary in itself.
Surely RINO would be a genuinely perfect name for its current incarnation?
