ME EARLIER - How dare Putin make these threats about who Ukraine has on its own soverign territory. Its about time the west grew a pair and have European troops in Ukraine to act as support behind the front lines and police borders with Belarus etc.
Now we are talking Czechia
I think rumour is that there might be special forces of some NATO countries there already and rumours are with storm shadow weapons that UK personnel are meant to be putting in the Co ordinates of the missiles. I suppose we won't know for a very long time afterwards when this conflict is well over and we read about it in books and see it in documentaries.
The declassified documents in years to come will make for some reading
Big time, I can only imagine what comes out. Say be good few years off tho. A very long time off.
As regards the F16s there was an article in the NYT today. Long story short, six f16s by July. More to come later in the year and into 2025.
What is the story of the Patriot system(launcher?) that was hit yesterday?
That seems like a very big loss. Are there many if them and are they replaceable at all ?
In theory the Senate and House can by pass the president if both have 2/3 majorities in favour. That will not happen.
There was a story in Russian telegram channels apparently showing the destruction of an Ukrainian S-200 on the march (several vehicles), the vehicles on closer inspection resemble those used by the Patriot system. It could be true. The recent Ukrainian successes in downing something like 13 Russian aircraft within last several weeks was assumed due to Patriots operating close to front lines, so it would not be not surprising if one of the Patriot systems was discovered and destroyed.
That would be a major blow but I guess the flip side of good hit rate is expensive loss when it goes wrong
Strong rumours general teplinsky has been killed this afternoon. He is reported to have been onboard a spy ship that was hit by the Ukrainian air force.
He is or possibly was head of the russian airborne forces. A three star general he would be the most senior russian officer killed to date.
In the same strike high profile military blogger "13th" was also supposedly killed.
Its irrelevant in Putins Russia whats in the box or not, its who does the counting that matters.
Yes, what he said was if the US and Europe stop giving money and weapons to Ukraine, the war will soon stop, Bit presumptuous of him to include Europe in his plans, isn't he? Same as presenting Trump as the next President of the US as done and dusted.
Big news if true, he was their big hope.
If it was the head of the Black sea fleet it might have increased their effectiveness.
This ship perhaps?
btw, their are also rumours that Putin wants him dead.

This is reportedly the ship

Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has brought war back to Europe and is transforming Russia itself— dissent is crushed, propaganda is raging and fear is everywhere. Filmed over 12 months with unparalleled access, VICE News documents how this war is pushing the country from authoritarianism to dictatorship.
washington is sitting on its hands, as usual, everything supplied is by drip drip drip
Watching 20 Days in Mariupol on C4 now. Jesus the horror these people are going through is hard to watch.
Harrowing, and also a reminder that that first great canard of tankies, contrarians and pro-Russian stooges over the initial months of the war was "Ukraine was full of Nazis; look at the Azov battalion!!", a force of course now gone because of Mariupol, along with all the repeated mantra. The narrative just shifted "but Ukraine is CoRruPt!!", like that has something to do with being invaded, of course.
More oil refineries hit over night, deep into russia
When you see children dying from bombs and the medics failing to resuscitate them and the medics terrified and balling their eyes out and asking what they did to deserve this it really gives you a glimpse into why so many have left the country. We are so insulated here in Ireland from any kind of suffering like this or in Palestine, and then you have Internet hardmen calling them scroungers and cowards for leaving Ukraine. Yes its a big country but I'd be outta there pronto if I was in their situation not just another part of Ukraine waiting for Russia to eventually arrive.
Really harrowing watch everyone should see the film, gives a great insight into how quickly the civilians lives turned into absolute hell.
... then you have Internet hardmen calling them scroungers and cowards for leaving Ukraine
Boils my píss; so easy to talk big from comfort of a country nobody invaded since the Vikings, while revealing themselves as doubly shielded by being too old to be ever asked to serve either. As you say, this war is harrowing, distressing and like yourself & have said myself before, if the troops landed in Galway tomorrow my family & I would be on the next flight/boat out; my loyalty is to my kids and avoiding the horrors that you described, not some self-induced erection over the idea of "grabbing a rifle" and dying in a ditch. Or intellectual spoofery that I have some obligation to fight for a nation state.. I have nothing but respect for those who have stepped forward to fight, and dictators or bullies should always be confronted and fought, but to decry those who dont is vulgar. ESpecially if you yourself have no worry on that front yourself.
I'd love to know more about how these attacks stack up against Russia's overall oil logistics, both in terms of percentage against the total refineries in the country, importance of those hit - and how much oil / time / supply is lost. You'd hate to think these Ukrainian attacks are just pin-pricks against a giant reserve, even if attrition is as effective a form of victory as any.
It's raiding time again!
Apparently refineries are not all that plentiful. Lots of oil but not endless facilities. Also once you start hitting these facilities it messes up the system down the line starts effecting things like tankers.
After a difficult few months it's good to hear more upbeat assessment now, and with rumours of incursions by troops including volunteer Russians directly into the country it will hopefully give Putin a few uneasy nights before the sham election:
Saw a video yesterday not far from Russian border of concentration of Ukrainian troops and Russia destroying about 5 tanks and few armored vehicles, I wonder was it them before they crossed into Russia.
