Nuisance calls

The last few days I've been receiving nuisance calls from mobile numbers.

They happen at all hours of the day looking for a lady (not me) when I question them they ignore me or hang up.

I've them blocked but they continue to call and a new number joins each day.

I receive calls for work daily from mobile numbers I wouldn't have in my phone book but I can't answer another pain in the ass calls and can't differentiate them.

Can the guards help because Eir don't give a rats ass.

Anyone any idea what I can do?

Send me on your number there and see how the "crank" calls piss you off.

I've 85 today alone from 4 different numbers. My young daughter answered the phone earlier not knowing it was one of them and they were screaming down the line.

I'm not asking the guards to open up an investigation but I thought it was part of their job to look into something like that when its so consistent?

Eir is my network provider I thought they would block numbers on the network for me I didn't ask them for much.

I'm only looking for some information apologies if I annoyed you

Ring your phone provider and see if you can add some kind of call protect and vmail package to your account. Were you signed up for something as a prank on donedeal or adverts?

Stick your number in the search bar of the sites above and check it out.

I've checked all websites can't see my number anywhere.

I'll ring my provider today and see what they can do.

I will just ignore for the coming weeks.

Just keep blocking, also nowadays I never speak first when I answer a call from a number I don’t know.

I find they usually hang up if it isn’t genuine.

So I was regularly getting the computerised calls from 'Amazon Prime' or 'Revolut' etc... they always look like they are coming from an Irish mobile number.. and sometimes for the craic if I wasn't busy I'd press 1 and connect to the scammers.... My goal was always to keep them on the line for as long as possible because if the scammer is talking to me, he's not talking to someone else who might get roped in.... think my record was about 35 minutes...

Anyway a few weeks ago I started getting calls back from people saying they had a missed call from me about 2 hours earlier, which was odd given I didn't make any calls... Eventually some number texted me calling me a scammer and telling me to f**k off etc.... So I came to the conclusion that the scammers had 'cloned' my number, or just made it look like it was my number calling these targets..

So at that point I called Vodafone who did some sort of network reset on my number (saying I had an old sim card even though it supports 5G), and I should also do a network reset on my phone which I did and so far the call backs have stopped. They said the next step after that (if it didn't work) would be to get a new sim card, and the very last option would be to change number, which I'd want to avoid given I've had the number for 25 years..

So to the OP, just change your number. Pain in the ass yes, but if the prank calls follow to your new number, then chances are it's someone you know, or someone who knows someone you know...

You can install an app to block these calls. The apps seem to be able to track the numbers where the operators seem unwilling to.

This happened to my wife recently. She was receiving calls from people saying they had a missed call from her number. It's just bad luck really, that the scammers are using your number for a while. They move on to the next number quick enough. Not much you can do.

It's all automated, they just change the 'from' number when the calls are made. Changing your sim won't fix it as they haven't accessed your sim or phone, it's as simple as their set up just randomly entering 0871234567 as the 'from' number and that's what shows on the recipients phone.

When blocking numbers you're just blocking some random person.

I used to be able to send texts and change the number the texts came from. Had some fun with that. That was around 18 years ago.
