They could be looking for a stash of crystal meth under the floorboards after a tip-off. 😛
Back to the favored topic...
Was there yesterday. The garden area is shrunken with some sorry looking plants. The cafeteria was open, on a nice sunny day and not terribly busy.
As for the concessions, the staff are obviously very stressed but keeping a good face and are polite. They're also helping movers pack up materials and take them away. This really has to hurt.
The place is being kept up, obviously, and they're keeping moving but the atmosphere was grim.
It sounds like there will be no need for a restaurant soon and the main building will be just an empty shell. What a balls up.
Hearing stories that no wages went into Part Time staff accounts today...
Its a pity the Old Oak has been left to rot away next to it. What a waste of a building! It was a good spot back in the day. Great for live music. Can't understand why it was left like this for at least 20 years now?
Confirmed, P/T staff not paid for.last weekends work.. or holidays owed....
Restaurant closing on Sunday evening and reopening under new management on Tuesday morning..
It will be interesting to see is it actually 'new management' or more messing around with companies etc.
I only drove past the old oak yesterday and said I must enquire as to why it’s left like this. Surely someone somewhere is thinking about the money that’s tied up in that building How come the council are slapping some sort of charge on it
Would not be surprised if a certain roasting house might be involved
Involved where?
Scandalous that staff were left unpaid. Who would want to work for them even if it's under "new management"
Passed by this morning and saw a few kids in the playground.im assuming they had adults with them
I presume he means the former owners of the Roast House are taking over the restaurant entirely, in the same way Jam ran it back in the day.
Brave move to get involved in any shape or form IMO, especially when nobody really knows whats coming down the tracks.
The Tralee one? or all of them?
I think the licence was sold on years ago, but I don't get why its been left to go derelict all this time. There was a lot of money put into it when it first opened. Such a waste!
No idea!
It will be an interesting one to watch
Seems very doubtful; they said they were going into catering only as dealing with staff, selling to the public, etc. wasn't in their cards going forward. Plus as was pointed out there's going to be a taint on the place no matter what the new name will be. It was one that catered to the US granny tourist tour bus trade and that type won't go near a place with a bad reputation.

Edit. After a Google I see that it's a Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul reference, neither of which I ever watched. Duh!😛
Sorry, it wasnt meant to be a link!
I'd never have thought of Ballyseedy cafe as a place that catered to tourist coaches. It always seemed to be locals who went there the many times I visited. I never saw buses or obvious looking tourist groups. I doubt it would have been so popular with locals if it was too touristy.
I think if a brand new firm took over with a name change, most people (apart from some on this thread maybe..) would move on and forget about its history. Its too successful a location and offering to just let it become abandoned and vacant indefinitely which I hope won't happen.
I've never seen a tourist coach or groups of US grannies there and I've been going there since it opened quite regularly. It's mainly a local venue and women with kids I would say are a large part of the regular clientele and the rest is a mixed bag but I've never seen the coach tour crowd there! I went there a lot when my first grandchild was small as there was a great indoor play area for smallies and the outside play area is excellent for older children.
Have regularly seen coaches there and I recognize the accents, so our experiences differ.
I think what it really needs is a brand new firm to take it over in its entirety, as in buy it, and for all ties to be cut with with the previous owners.
This may take a while of course, given the messy situation, but anything else is just sticky plasters IMO, and probably down to very few staff or suppliers wanting to offer their services to the current crew.
I think it would be a shame to lose it completely, and I dont think that will happen, if it has to close for a period of time though, so be it.
First I've ever heard of international tourist coaches stopping at garden centres...hardly an enticing part of a tourist itinerary in a foreign country....
The coach drivers might have been given free jumpers to reward them for the stuff bought by tourists on the concession side of the operation. 😛
Confirmed... Ronan Hurley and his partner (formerly of The Roasthouse) taking over Ballyseedy Restaurant as of next Tuesday Morning
Is the current economic environment that different now v when they closed the roast house.....I don't get it
That's going to confuse things somewhat and I wonder where that leaves the staff who were transferred to Smaash Burger a week ago?
It all reminds me of chickens running around with their heads cut off.
Possibly they got a good deal on it. I'd imagine that given the roast house's location they were paying the top rates in town. I'm still very surprised.
I am surprised they want to take it on. They seemed to be happy to get away from running a cafe/restaurant and go into the catering side of things. His wife certainly seemed to be happy about it! They are friends with the owners though, so maybe its a favour to keep things running?
