That's really strange.
To have two different types of can in a multi pack is almost impossible.
The cans come off the line and are wrapped in plastic.
Unless someone did it deliberately it's hard to figure out how it happened.
They mentioned RVM but not actual vending machines.
I never saw a vending machine there but I had a few pints in the bar.
(not the member's bar !)
Maybe someone else will clarify what Newstalk left hanging.
Yes it is very strange. They were delivered by Tesco on 14th February and I waited until they were all done to do a return.
Yes, things are complicated enough with three different types of stock in shops without mixed cans in a mult pack.
At this stage June 1st can't come soon enough.
What happens on June 1st?
No escape.
If I lived in Dublin I think I'd leave all my cans and bottles outside The Dail
My thoughts and actions.Stocked up and will head Newry for restocking
I hope they'll come up with something more sensible and sustainable than landfill.
Maybe give them to some charitable outlet like the Capuchin Day Centre.
Mr Price are pushing fact all their outlets will offer manual returns, no machines, could be handy for some
Great, have one in my nearest town. Wait till someone comes in with a black sackfull, dumps them on the counter looking for their 2-3 euro while customers who bought items and are waiting to pay stand there like sheep.
Thanks for that.
Could be a game changer.
Has anyone here used their manual system?
It really is a solution in search of a problem. Most people who care about recycling were already doing it via their bin. Now, it's made it harder and probably more expensive for them to do it. Most people who weren't recycling aren't going to do it just because of 15 / 25 c. If they're hard enough off that they need the 15 / 25 cent they're probably not going to be buying the bottle / can in the first place.
Well said. And another quango with a number of high paid salaries at the top level, double work hours and emissions with our current waste operators running their trucks alongside RVM trucks, the non segregation of bottles and cans according to some posters, and numerous problems with RVM machines and retailers, and yet we copied this from the German system supposedly excellent. A load of bollix I say!
Yep I just bought my last plastic bottle. My local Centra in my village are charging 30 cent extra for a bottle of water and said they won't take them back and expect me to travel about 11 miles into town which isn't practical for me. I would have to get someone to bring me into town or spend 20 euro on a bus into town and back as I don't drive so that's bs so they can stick it. I walked up to buy a bottle of water which I wanted so that's the only reason I didn't tell the shop to go and stick it. The government and their bs to make peoples lives more difficult and just creating a nuisance have me fuming with anger now to be honest. I can't wait to vote the greens out but they've already done the damage and are doing everything to make our lives a flipping nightmare.
Pity they couldn't be exchanged for loyalty points in the likes of Lidl, Tesco's etc.
I'd be happy to throw in two or three bottles and have points added as opposed to claiming a few cents back or having to wait for a big enough refund
You have to take into account that many rural people do not have local access to a Lidl or Tesco.
Totally understand, but if it was another option it would be great. Same way people with a Lidl/Tesco can benefit from the returns machine, while some people without Lidl/Tesco have to return over the counter.
UK bringing in the same scheme before 2025
Its all well and good saying you just wont buy cans or bottle anymore, but unfortunately guinness and pepsi and tonic water don't come in powdered form. Im thinking of experimenting with SodaStream which will solve my Pepsi needs, but the other two, are irreplacable IMO, with no possible substitute.
One still has to get into a "town" to avail of the over the counter. I have a car, go into town once a week-15 miles in. Will often bring in older pensioners well, older than me don't drive to town to do their shopping. If not they do their shopping in a local village shop with no RVM.
The new fascist recycling regime is fully implemented and the boot is across retailers and the public neck! Comply.
Meanwhile they can continue to rob deposits due to their ill thought out scheme.
My gripe is I brought a load of stuff to Aldi earlier. All bottles I bought there. Not acceptable. No money due back. Raging. There were cans of Carlsberg too, which I bought there too, they weren't taken either. Going to continue squashing all the cans, and bring them to the recycling center, where they pay by weight.
Did you pay deposits on them ?
How much per can will they give you on the pay by weight ?
Well until then that's where I'll be heading too.
Also I think it's fair to correct that to *their version of this scheme.
I'd wager it wont be the massive steaming bag of sh!te we have.
I've no idea. I remember a guy telling me a year ago that they will pay by weight for drinks cans. I've been squashing them for over a year, maybe 2. I've 6 bags in the shed. I might get rid of them in a few weeks, will report back how much I got.
Did you pay a deposit? Ive yet to buy anything in Aldi with a deposit, none of their own brands have anything yet.
Finding the system pretty trouble free so far to be honest
