If anything is an indicator that the Republican party isn't focused on winning moderates, it's that they haven't even tried to be coy about their reasons for scuppering a border deal they themselves were asking for.
Obviously the strategy for November is to get as many of that 73 million back out to the polls and hope that apathy sets in among the contingent who voted against Trump the last time.
Well, actually, not really because the way their electoral system works, it really comes down to some sometimes fine margins in certain swing states. The question for Biden is where he can hold the swing victories in 2020 or which ones he can flip.

From their position on the political spectrum, the centre appears far left, and the actual far left is so far as to not even be in their field of vision.
