The US and Mexico border is 3.1 thousand kilometres long, stretches across dozens of different terrain types, massive altitude changes, mountains, rivers, property types (and ownerships therein) and would require the presence of even more authorities and support to manage it properly. The Rio Grande alone would cause pause, given it weaves in and out of the two countries and is, famously, a big river.
The Berlin Wall was ... uhm, about 90 odd kilometres and famously DIDN'T WORK THAT WELL. People got out, over it, under it and generally even a totalitarian state failed to keep it leak proof. It only "worked" when East Germany basically demolished much of Berlin around it and turned it into a DMZ. Some comparison.
