I wasnt referring to the constitution at all..... I meant pratically
There are no rules against it, but it would just be the absolute dumbest thing possible in this scenario. Choosing a VP is about more than trying to p*ss off your opponent, and especially when you're the incumbent and already have an incumbent VP from your own party.
Also - Whilst Haley isn't a corrupt criminal rapist like Trump she is still an utterly awful "Tea Party" ultra conservative whose policy positions would be utterly anathema to every Democrat voter.
Trump is so utterly appalling that anyone less awful than him seems to be considered acceptable now.
In any normal world , Haley would be getting torn apart for being an awful Right-wing Conservative idiot , but people keep calling her "moderate" even though she is absolutely nothing of the sort.
As VP picks go, that would be up there with John Tyler who basically renounced William Henry Harrison's platform once he succeeded to the Presidency!
Exactly. She is root and core, a GOPer. Her policies don't align with the Dems policies, and in the event that Biden died or is otherwise incapacitated, Nikki Haley would be President. Literally the only reason why she would ever be chosen would be to annoy Trump, and if that's what the Dems were reduced to, politics as a whole is just done. It's over.
Official now anyway
Mitch McConnell endorses Trump, saying that as the Republican nominee, he will have his support.
Seeing that Haley has not endorsed Trump in her speech
MSNBC on X: ""It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him... this is now his time for choosing." Nikki Haley suspends presidential campaign, doesn't endorse Trump https://t.co/y5JRSopxHj" / X (twitter.com)
Thansk Nikki for making me look like a muppet on this thread.
This may end up being the last primaries the Republican party ever had.
It’s like they forgot McCain nuked his own campaign by picking Sarah Palin just as a tactic to respond to Obama not choosing Hillary.
Nah not at all. She's had a good showing and even picking up Vermont against Trump was a big victory (DC was a much easier one for her to win). She could have stayed in it just on the off-chance Trump can't run, but at this stage she'd be next in line anyway so not much point. Donations would dry up after last night and she'd have little more to gain in terms of publicity (and if anything, it could start becoming negative publicity and turning against her).
Assuming of course that Trump makes it to November. If she stuck it out, even in the background, she might have been in prime position!
I said this a few times here, she was never a contender even if Trump dropped dead. Her approval numbers with the party were at best lukewarm and are trending towards Liz Cheney territory. She is done as a political force.
She made a lot of money, but it wasn't a great campaign whatsoever, crushed everywhere most notably her home state and relying on Dems to vote in the primary to narrow the margin of defeat.
I think other than potentially whoever Trump's running mate ends up being, Haley would be the frontrunner to replace Trump if he did have to drop out for whatever reason.
But given the SC's recent decisions have likely resulted in no cases which might disqualify Trump being brought/finished before the election, only a significant health issue would mean Trump doesn't make it to November at this point.
If Trump gets Lara installed in the RNC you can absolutely see them trying to replace the primaries with some kind of "The President has chosen XYZ as the next candidate"
I dont think she is as MAGA wouldnt allow it. They are the party of Trump 100% and she challenged him for too long.
Her only hope (imo) is that he crashes and burns in November and she cant gently start an "I told you so" campaign for 28
All of them are thin-skinned, short tempered, dullard, belligerent thugs...
That is absolutely her plan - She wants to the the "sane" one in the post Trump era , whenever that might occur.
Funny that!!
Disingenuous asshole.
Always think 'suspend' is an odd verb for this move. Gives the impression of "Hey you never know I might jump in again if my poll numbers pick up."
We all know full well, this will absolutely eat him up, that is how sensitive he is to it.
It doesn't matter whether Trump wins or not for Haley she isn't a contender for 2028. You must look at her approval numbers with Republicans as they are in the toilet. If its not some full blown MAGA loon most likely JR and somehow MAGA loses steam then someone like Youngkin who was sensible enough not to waste his time would be a frontrunner.
Heck even RDS who got nuked by Trump would be more likely than Haley as his approval numbers have somehow held up reasonably well.

Was that the reason? I doubt it, but I'd be interested in your sources for such. I though McCain picked that loon because of the tea partier influence in the GOP then, and actually loathed her and lamented the pick later on.
I think she will only be a contender if there has already been a female president, or if the dem front runner is also female. I don't think the republican party are ready for a female president in the next cycle or two.
That's what it said on the on-screen graphic when Dan Rivers interviewed Kristina Adams.
The point being made is that a "Ranch Owner" isn't exactly representative of the typical "voter in the streets".
Also a "Texas Ranch owner" is pretty much the text book definition of a White, Christian Conservative Republican voter who would never vote Democrat in a million years so attempting to use their opinion as reflective of the wider voter pool is disingenuous at best.
According to this article from 17 April 2022, the DOJ was unwilling to commence a prosecution against Trump back then because of the fear that it would set a precedent that would be abused under a future corrupt president to go after that president's enemies with no real basis.
I don't agree. (says you surprise surprise), I don't think she was ever a serious contender, because there are large parts of the GOP who are not ready for a woman President. Even if you removed the MAGA types from the equation. And one of colour to boot.
