Goading Russia into making nuclear threats helps combat the absolute torrent of pro -Russian propaganda in the West. Public opinion in France is 50/50 on helping Ukraine. Putin threatening to Nuke European cities may shift opinion back to being full square behind Ukraine again. European leaders should aim to reveal the true face of Putin at every opportunity.
The numbers for Russian losses has been very high over the last few days for deaths, APVs and Tanks. Is there an offensive going on?
I have been out of the loop since Avdiivka
I still think the spread of bomblets is way too big. Should be 50% smaller.
Terrible deal for Ukraine when you drum down into it.
There pushing out from adviika at the moment and have taken a few villages from there. Massive casualties inflicted on Russia to stop them advance but they still are from there but huge numbers of Ukrainian casualties at the moment it looks like as well.
You've said this twice now about Ukranian casualties. Where are you getting the info?
CNN for 1. It's their top story if you go into it at moment.
Watching videos at moment on both sides but Russia are hitting a lot of Ukrainian targets at the moment west of adviika. There taking a high toll West of there. Ukraine are inflicting a lot of Russian losses but if you go onto CNN and read it you will see Ukraine weren't set up properly for adviika to fall and aren't properly prepared west of it and that's where they are seeing a lot of casualties.
I suppose they were used for speed and to get troops into positions fast.
So hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers have been injured over 20 days. It's a war... I'm shocked soldiers get injured.
So taking that at face value, do you or they have a comparison from the previous month to compare and come to the conclusion that Ukraine are all of a sudden loosing huge numbers? This is like a previous user last year saying Ukraine were loosing record numbers because his Facebook feed has a few more RIP posts etc...
For fun I checked the Russian MOD figures, ignoring the actual number and just going for a trend, Russia claims on average over the past 10 days, 310 Ukrainian soldiers killed around Adviika, the 10 days prior that average figure was 330. In short, even the Russians don't admit Ukraine are loosing a higher number of troops.
I don't sorry no. I would presume tho when they were in adviika Ukraine had more fortified positions so were taking less casualties until the end when they were pulling out and took a lot of casualties then as they were exposed getting out of there. So I would presume now with the 3 defence lines west of adviika that were set up and Russia has taken the 1st line. Seems they are there at the 2nd line but have not broken through yet. It just goes to reason that if your not fully set up to have defence positions that are good but not great and before you had artillery and more ammo for weapons to knock Russian missiles from the sky and blast Russians further back your going to have more casualties. But no I don't have comparisons sorry. So maybe a lot of drivel I'm saying but I don't think so.
Possible concern - NK has never really had a chance to test its hardware in real world conditions. So this 'special military operation' is actually giving them a unique chance to improve their own designs/ manufacturing processes and possibly even reinvest in upgrading. In other words, there may be the possibility that with each new production batch their failure rates decrease.
Hopefully not - hopefully they just pocket the cash and keep producing c**p for Putin
Guessing works both ways in fairness.
North KOrea is a feudal state with the internet and some ballistic missiles; even if their wonky ammunition gave their factories some customer feedback, I doubt they have the wealth, expertise or diligence to do anything with that info. And it's not like there's even a hope in héll this war in Ukraine gives them some extra study notes for a war against the South - all they can reasonably do is as you say, pocket the cash in a Swiss bank and keep producing rubbish for Putin's last hurrah.
Wall street Journal reports
"WSJ says Putin kept the borders open in order to send his intelligence agents abroad with the fleeing Russians. WSJ claims that agents may be behind assassinations.”
Hopefully. But I wouldn't discount the possibility just yet. If Putin has incentivised them, then possibly a country whose entire population are essentially Dickensian servants of Fatty McSquarehair and have developed ballistic missiles/ nuclear technology, could be pursuaded to refine what must be pretty rudimentary artillery shells? It's a bit like Chinese goods - can be awful c**p, but if they price & invest properly they are capable of producing excellent products.
Again, we can only hope (with a decent dollop of expectation) that half the shells go pop in the gun barrels.
A glint of hope perhaps?
Anyone with military knowledge explain this:
Her reply came in response to a question about whether she agrees with Scholz's argument that Berlin can't send the long-distance cruise missiles because this would require the presence of German troops on Ukrainian soil.
What would be required for a bunch of missiles? Surely training could be conducted in Poland, ala many other items of equipment?
They are well wide enough to catch a drone. UA must love them.
Seems a strange reason. He also claimed UK & French troops are on the ground in Ukraine because of stormshadow/scalp being used.
Could be that in order to make sure they are not used to attack Russian soil, the UK/French troops confirm the target is within Ukraine?
Or maybe the fact they are retrofitted to Soviet aircraft, the target needs to be programmed before the plane takes off, but that would mean Ukraine can't be shown how to program them? They don't seem to have an issue with other stand off smart munitions.
There's an airfield right on the Polish border in ukraine. The Germans can shout instructions across the border and use binoculars to check or have an extra long lead to programe the missile.
Just seems to be easier to say no than actually come up with a creative solution.
UA can spy too
Fair play to her on this. I suppose this is the only way for her to apply a bit of pressure on Olaf? A conversation like that would usually be held in private, so I’m thinking she has exhausted that avenue and got nowhere.
We know few details on the contents of the potential bill because it’s still being negotiated. So there simply isn’t much to drum down into or assess. No humanitarian aid is unfortunate but Ukraine has an even broader range of contributors addressing those needs (Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, etc). I don’t know how you choose define a “terrible” deal for Ukraine but it cannot be worse than no deal.
There is no military reason for it. It's a claim that the UK/French control target selection as the Ukranians can't be trusted.
Maybe they thought they would be good against bunkers!
