Im actually now hearing of a pull from the factories next week back to €5...
I got 5.15 Base for Continental Heifers and got 5.40 flat for White Heads this week in a Midlands Factory. There a run of cows going through the factories at the moment and they are trying to pull prices.
Shop around don't ever commit to providing cattle to a company without first agreeing a price look for a flat price for your Herefords this week cow numbers are dropping in the marts, supply is turning in our favour also the heavy bulls going live for the next 2 weeks is a big help
I got 5.05 base and 15c breed bonus for a dozen HEX bullocks from larry today....
If anyone else is getting more..good luck to you....
Got 5.10 for continental’s last week. Not sure if it was there this week though
5.10 for heifers and 5.05 for bullocks next week I am told. No major issue getting them in if I wanted to go, have a few to go but there are only there or there abouts so will hold out for another 2 weeks to crown them, will see what way the trade be then. With abit of luck they might be up 5 or 10 cents again.
Agent called to the yard yesterday to see had we anything to go. I wasn’t about so got no price. Any further updates on prices? Is there a squeeze coming or it that wishful thinking?
Would be a quick turnaround if there was a tightening coming but there seems to be àn over supply at the moment . Nitrates seems to have lads selling as early as possible
No over supply at the moment the extra cow supply for the last 6 weeks is more or less finished if you look at any marts for the last week their has been a major drop in beef cattle lots of stores but very little beef and if cattle are not in marts they are not in the factory either
Hardly an over supply of agents are calling to yard’s looking for stock??
Couple of short kill weeks coming up which helps them keep a lid on it.
Without sounding like a factory agent, the kill is up 21000 cattle so far this year. And if they were that scarce, then prices wouldn't be gone backwards
Last year was a bit different due to very high meal prices going into the winter and for most of the winter. They were really caught short and the feedlots couldnt fill the hole quick enough from late November 22 to Feb 23.
Very little chose the finish cattle at the start of winter 22 but changed their minds as the winter went on
Kill maybe up but carcass weight is back this year And also throw in the the amount of dairy off spring been finished in recent years.
It’s a point I do be trying to make regularly enough alright, we should be told the kill figures in tons of meat as well as head count. If carcass average weight is down 5% year on year then the 5% increase in head count still only leaves the same amount of meat in the system.
I wonder if say the kill numbers are up but the tonnage of meat remains the same would factories profit be much higher as they would be processing more of the "5th quarter" when many believe covers the running costs of many factories.
Trying to get cows away the past 2 weeks with no joy, rang agent this morning and they'll be got in no bother, this week, the glut of cows in the system is after running out, are alot keener for stock
Took 20, 23 month old ch aa bulls this morning and I was the only 1 there. He looked at them last Monday and wanted them first thing Tuesday morning but 2 were missing tags. Mad fir them.
Sent 4 heifers today 5.15
Bulls are being purchased live for the boat for the last 2 weeks that could be a reason why they were so anxious for bulls it just shows what extra competition can do
Do they need to have two tags for the factory? I have some going soon, but a couple of them are missing one tag...
Not at all....theyll be cutting the one they do have off soon enough....
Need 2 for across the border just.
1 tag for the factory. 2 for mart.
What breeds?? Do you finish many. I got that 3 weeks ago. But only offered 5.10 this week. Small finisher here around 50 head a year or so.
3 chx and 1 limx....the 3 chx got on well big frames the lmx not as good ....finish about 50 or 60 ......was offered 5.10 last week but got 5.15 this week killed a few a few weeks ago got 5.20
Any prices for the coming week. I have not been in contact in any agent lately but will soon cause I have a few nearing ready.
5.20 base for heifers in midland factory and 5.45 for angus and whiteheads...this week.
5.15 base for steers offered this am, midlands
