You are giving the greens far too much credit.
FG have 13 councillors
FF have 7
green have 6
Labour have 6
othwrs have 8
are you really saying that the 6 green councillors are the most effective councillors in the council?
Do you really think that the 12 green TDs out of 160 are running the country , are they also the most effective? If so more credit to Eammon Ryan imagine what he could accomplish if he want asleep most of the time
In summary all parties support and suggest green initiatives
Vote green and go green with frustration.
Are you for real? I thought your yarn of the near deadly assault by the park bench was as comical as it gets, then you come out with this rubbish of gender/race/affluence dictating how you get around. Take a break and save us all from your crap.
The whole issue of women cycling safely and lighting was brought up from the floor at a public Green Party meeting a few days ago. Eamon's answer was bats are more important than safe cycling with proper lightning.
They are having the Dodder Greenway cycle route diverted from Beaver Row/Beach Hill, down Clonskeagh Road, along along the main Milltown Road, to meet back up with the Dodder at Dartry. This route is a kilometer or two longer of hilly main road, versus the direct flat route along the Dodder Trail's existing bicycle track and pathway. This stretch would need the path widened and lighting added. However, Eamon does not want lighting along the existing Dodder Trail, as it might disturb the bats. He did not mention that his garden backs on to the park, a few meters from the trails path...
There are 'plans' to upgrade the existing path, but they are in the distant future.
I know you weren't referring to the videos given that they contradict your claims. It's funny how many of you r claims depend on things that you imagine, like where these people live and what kind of work they do, most of which have as much validity as your clearly flawed gender claim.
There is a gender issue in cycling of course, which reflects how many women have been scared off the road by the lack of safe infrastructure, the kind of thing that the Living Streets initiative provides.
I her you are a racist now Maisie…..What’s wrong with white mailed, who make up a large part of the demographic of south Dublin
Im reading in the Independent now about Eamon Ryan calling out cyclists aggression towards pedestrians, the cyclists ignoring red lights etc.
Its about time he acknowledged this issue.
I wasnt teferring to those videos, I was talking about cycling in general and how gendered it all is.
DLR is engaging in an experiment to organise the roads to suit cyclists, mostly white men, the buses stuck in the ensuing traffic snarl ups will be full of lower paid workers, women, school children and increasingly non nationals, they depend on the the bus service, its not practical to expect everyone to cycle.
I would think most of those in the video live close enough to Myrtle Sq to walk there, they arent living in Monkstown Farm or anywhere the traffic from Tivoli Road is going to divert too.
As I said closing off roads means the problem just moves somewhere else, what will take cars off Roads is good, preferably free public transport, park and ride with feeder buses.
Reducing the traffic on Stillorgan Park to a standstill will cause congestion on all roads that feed into it, therefore buses in this traffic will be unable to move too.
Drivers in desperation to get to work will take to rat running thereby endangering cyclists and pedestrians on what would normally be low level traffic routes.
Just nuts.
Did you happen to look at those videos of the event at all before you decided that support is very gendered? Because you just look a little bit silly making claims like that.
Did any of the low paid who cant afford expensive bikes or cars consider getting inexpensive bikes instead? You can get started on a €100 bike, with the advantage that no one will be bothered to steal it.
Why is this issue of car theft never mentioned when this utopia of us all driving around is mentioned, that 50000€ just gone!!!!!
My bike is so old that when I come back to it I find that someone has had sympathy for me and left a tenner under the saddle.
Have no idea, my opinion is this plan is nuts, its just moving the traffic elsewhere, the roads in Monkstown farm wont be able to cope with the diverted traffic, the paths are very narrow too, far better to re open the coast road and traffic will equalise so less impact on individual areas.
Many of those people on cargo bikes drive enormous range rovers when they arent tootling up and down the seafront in their dryrobes, a lot are working from home so logging in and heading out on the expensive bikes, only when the weather is nice, if its not you wont see them at all.
Its all very gendered, just thought this driving to sandymount at rush hour, vast majority of cyclists white male, few non national men but they were mostly deliveroo drivers, vast majority waiting at bus stops were non nationals male and female, probably low paid so cant afford expensive bikes or cars, the buses stuck in lines of traffic will affect this cohort badly, not for them rolling out of bed at 9AM to switch on the laptop and begin scrolling social media.
And another bike stolen on me this week, daughter said good news is I took the lights off the bike and they are safe, the bad news is your bike was stolen.!!!!
Why is this issue of bike theft never mentioned when this utopia of us all cycling around is mentioned, that 500€ just gone!!!!!
Are we going to be wandering around carrying two wheels and the saddle with us everywhere we go so we have a bike to return to.
Most of them were praying for the Living Streets initiative to proceed.
How many attended the anti protest a few weeks back? Did they break double figures?
You would see more people coming out of sunday morning mass in DL
As per the video there are 118 in the "first half". Ask me how I know.
Seriously,did you watch the video?
That's counting the crowd and adding up sub-accounts on twitter, reddit and boards. 😂
Seriously what Andrew? Seriously what?
Seriously?
I went to Myrtle Square to see for myself. 120-150 people there.
Looks like a big turn out today
I'd suggest we continue the discussions on one of the threads where it has been well covered before, and where it is relevant to the topic. This thread is not one of those threads.
I retract my misdirected offerings on the basis of your input. How would you like us to understand the technical complexities around how Luas tracks and bicycles don't mix? Wider bike tyres?
No one's asking for your sympathy or your advice. You seem to have missed the point entirely.
There is no pearl clutching.
There is a frequent lack of consideration of the needs of people with disabilities who cycle, with 'dismount' signs that have no legal basis, and the kind of 'get off and walk' thinking that Maisie proposed.
They're actually about as common as I think they are (i.e. I am not surprised at the numbers) and not a good example to fall back on when pearl clutching.
As mentioned, as extreme as you think maisie is, that is how extreme you are coming across by bringing up convoluted examples and offences, your good, measured points, are getting lost.
While I sympathise with her plight, she clearly wants more busses. I'm not sure how else to advise.
They're more common that you might think, if you want to actually listen to them;
They'd be even more common if we stopped building infrastructure around the assumption that everyone can get off and walk.
Being offended on behalf of disabled cyclists who can't walk has brought you to the next level of being a parody account Andrew (while I'm sure such exist in small numbers). maisie45 is your mirror.
That's exactly my point. You have zero consideration for cyclists with disabilities, many of whom use their bike as their mobility aid. Telling people to get off their bike and walk is like telling a wheelchair user to get up and walk. Please stop being so ableist in your comments.
And if you know of drivers who will get pushed over the edge by the sight of a cycle lane on the sides of a road, please tell them to stop driving, as they are not fit to share the road with others. Would it be yourself that you had in mind there?
Oh, you meant at night only? Why didn't you say so. The way that you said it, you made it sound like every cyclist in Belgium is wearing one of these jackets all the time. Apparently not.
https://www.reddit.com/r/belgium/comments/17bi2we/reminder_to_check_your_bike_lights_and_those_from/
Have you any thoughts on the Belgian scheme to pay cyclists to cycle?
