Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Under 19 World Cup began today in South Africa.

Ireland are in Group A with the United States, Bangladesh and India with the top 3 moving into a Super 6 stage.

They look pretty good for the Super 6 stage already after routing the United States this morning by 7 wickets. Wickets were shared around whilst Ryan Hunter hit a half-century to lead the reply to victory.

Next up is Bangladesh on Monday morning which will be covered live on Sky Sports mix.

U19s with a great win v NZ today at world cup

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

They have pretty good throughout the tournament in all honesty and were highly competitive in every game apart from the India game which is to be expected and they deserved that today.

Owen Riley and Kian Hilton were probably the two standouts from the tournament. Hopefully they can now continue to develop.

Squads name for the series against Afghanistan starting at the end of the month:

    Test squad

Mark Adair, Andrew Balbirnie (capt), Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Matthew Foster, Graham Hume, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, James McCollum, PJ Moor, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Theo van Woerkom, Craig Young

    ODI squad

Mark Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Matthew Foster, Graham Hume, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Paul Stirling (capt), Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Theo van Woerkom, Craig Young

    T20I squad

Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Paul Stirling (capt), Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young

No Josh Little in the Test squad is the main headline which I guess is because it's peak T20 franchise season. He also isn't in the ODI squad but features in the T20I squad which is where most of the focus will be this year with the upcoming World Cup.

Little picking and choosing his international opportunities 🤦🏻‍♂️

wouldn’t mind if he only omitted himself from one format but instead becoming unavailable for two out of the three…. Nah, not for me.

Internationally he’s grossly overrated anyway. The only impressive thing about his international stats so far is the speed he can bowl at. Hasn’t taken nearly enough wickets at international level with the opportunity he has been enabled with.

average wickets per game is just over 1 wicket in both ODI and T20I formats.

he took only a single five for against New Zealand, his only really great landmark stat and the guy notoriously cannot bat to save his life.

No Rashid Khan for afg for the test match starting on wed

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Venue has been changed to the oval beside the main stadium. Reads like it could have been double booked somehow.

Taking wickets has been the biggest problem in test cricket for Ireland in the past year. Just 9 across two tests against Sri Lanka and only 4 against England last year.

Conditions on the ground tomorrow morning before play might dictate the selection but here's a possible team for tomorrow.

Ireland: 1 James McCollum 2 Peter Moor 3 Andrew Balbirnie (capt) 4 Harry Tector 5 Paul Stirling 6 Curtis Campher 7 Lorcan Tucker (wk) 8 Mark Adair 9 Andy McBrine 10 Theo van Woerkom 11 Craig Young

Premier Sport are apparently supposed to show coverage of the game but it's not yet on the schedule for whatever reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Premier Sports are now advertising it on their rather crappy user unfriendly website but hasn’t been added to their listings… broadcast starts at 6am

the venue change was to suit and prioritise a schools competition which is a bit mad….All a bit amateur hour from the Afghan administration side of the game.

Afghans batting after winning the toss and are two wickets down - both adair in the 7th over. Have recovered tho and are 46/2 after 16

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

66/3 now, McCarthy with his maiden test wicket. Zadran still in and on 40

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

86/3 at lunch. Zadran bringing up his 50 in final over of first session

Adair gets gurbaz second over after lunch. 86/4

Ireland missed a chance of a wicket in the first over too, lbw not given on field but if it had been reviewed it was out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

89/5 now. Young gets the 5th. Zadran still there however

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Young gets Zadran!

I organise the football league at this venue (and basically live on the site!) and we've been bumped off. Almost 200,000 euro put in to the school sports cup. And the best schools aren't even taking part in the football part of it because the British schools of the middle east are also hosting their games elsewhere.

Just last week we had 5v5 pitches and matches on an oval being used for international cricket the week after!

7 down now. Hopefully can get through the tail fairly quickly....famous last words

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Campher gets the breakthrough and then another!

    139/9

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Seems to be a good effort to date - is this a 4 or 5 day test?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Only real negative from an Irish perspective so far is the reviews, they failed to review two that would have beent out and they do they did review were correctly not out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Afghanistan 155 all out. Adair gets his five

Campher doing his bit, be good to see him picking up more singles and twos as well. Hitting a good few 4s which is grand but it's not T20 or Bazball. We need to build good partnerships and get a decent score 300+

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

A good few ones and twos after this post, but now a lovely big six!

That wicket was coming, Afg had been building some pressure. Campher out 49

    92/3 Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Ireland 100/4 at stumps. 4th wicket was night watchman van woekrum

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 621 ✭✭✭dohboy

Good day for Ireland but Afghanistan are still in the box seat batting last imo. Wouldn't be surpised to wake up in the morning and see Ireland all out with just a modest lead. Still, a fine effort today.

Like playing with 9 players with Peter Moor and Theo van Woerkom in the team. Did ok but likely to collapse and then bowl rubbish. Have a chance though. Maybe these 2 and Tucker can get a few

First session now beyond crucial.. great that we have Tector and Stirling at the crease.

Barring a disastrous collapse a first innings lead of about 120 minimum should be the expectation… which should be enough to win the test.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 621 ✭✭✭dohboy

Sorry, yes, meant 'with Ireland batting last'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Tector out early on day 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Moor the only Irish player to play red ball cricket since the last test match though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Ireland 134/5 at the first drinks break

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    50 for Stirling

Edit and out for 52. Ireland 186/6 at lunch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Tucker out 46. Ireland 216/7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Nice to see a few partnerships built, building up the total. Be great if our tail can wag and add another 50. But Adair just gone, why did he bother reviewing that??

Can't see us having quite the same easy time against them when they bat again and we'll likely be chasing some score in the final innings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Adair out 15. Ireland 242/8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    The lead is now 100
