He was always going to win the primary, but the results might hint at an "enthusiasm" problem for him in the general Election.
The MAGAs love him and are more than enough to give him clear victories in the Primaries, but they alone can't get him over the line in November.
If any kind of meaningful volume of those not voting for Trump in the Primaries either stay at home or worse, vote for Biden in November, Trump is toast.
That's the point here.
Oh , there are no shortage of people that have been banned on "truth" social already..
Exactly....... His hard core fans keep saying the love him more because of all the charges but it appears that a lot of Republicans dont agree with that.
Off topic for this thread, but if embryos are now children, can't anyone who recieved IVF treatment, now claim the child benefit tax credit for the dozens of embryos that were created during the treatment?
The US Child Benefit tax credit is about 3600 a year.
The whole concept opens up so many stupid legal issues.
A woman in Texas somewhere tried to use the idea of "the fetus is a person" to get off a ticket for driving in the multi-occupancy lanes on the motorway while pregnant.
Like you say -Could you claim a child tax credit for each and every embryo frozen during IVF??
Could you take out life insurance on them and make a claim in the (not at all uncommon) event that the implantation failed?
However, like all of their other proclamations of a concern for the "rights of the unborn" , the second it might cost them money, they'll suddenly find reasons to disagree.
The whole thing is complete and utter nonsense.
That's only one part of the equation. The shortfall of votes received vs the polling, where do those votes go in a general? Do they hold their nose and vote for Trump? Do they stay home? Do they vote for Biden?
Whats the chances there are some people living in strong MAGA territories but dont want the grief of admitting they dont like Trump. Best to stay quiet and just vote against him.
in 2016 they were claiming Trump fans were the silent majority.. Has it flipped?
Would be good but I thought that it was OK to say you didn't like trump but would vote for the Republican candidate.
Sure there are some ,though.
Wouldn't it be odd if this was flagged to her face in a house sitting, just like MTG has her prompt cards about a picture of Biden son. Except for the Dems are not that low. MAGAs however ......
The payments are frozen.
As are the assets 😂
The problem with that is rather then fix the IVF issue they would come up with a las to reduce or right out ban child benefit
If they are so pro Trump why did they fail to uphold any of Trump's cases on elections. They are judges for life what will Trump do to them
"They are judges for life what will Trump do to them"
Judges Chutkan and Engoran were targeted by Trump and have received multiple death threats for not ruling in his favour.
They aren't "pro-Trump" per se , but they are both hyper conservative and are very pre-disposed to the current "Christian nationalism" that is gaining traction in the GOP of late.
That is scary ,given how extreme Alito and Thomas are becoming (or at least feeling more comfortable in expressing their innate awfulness)
Oh I am not saying that they are zealots they very much were my reply was the Supreme Court would just let Trump do his Project 2025 stuff and rubber stamp it. Conservative judges will do what conservative judges do and it has naught to do with Trump
And yet how many times has has this Supreme Court ruled in his favour. Not very pro Trump. Will they read the constitution in a conservative way to lose rights hard fought of course but that is what conservative judges try to do
Except the electorate sees none of that. They mostly see two old guys fighting it out and that's what the polls show as well.
Finer details escape most Americans. Most of the details escape most Americans.
They dyed in the wool supporters do not care about what you listed, its irrelevant to them. Trump encouraged a coup, doesn't matter to his supporters.
The polls show age is a big issue and this will be a big issue for swing voters who decide every American election.
I think you’re being very harsh on the electorate. I see it mentioned a lot, that practically no Americans care about anything other than the fact that it’s 2 old guys and everything else is irrelevant, but there’s been no data that really proves that.
Everything we actually see shows that Trump has support in his base but is increasingly unpopular outside of that - he’s not winning primaries by as much as projections had him winning by.
This is understandable - millions of Americans will take into account loads of other things outside of age and will reasonably conclude that Trump will not be a good president simply be being 4 years younger than Biden. They’ll remember his terrible his presidency was, they’ll remember January 6th, they’ll be well aware of his mental state and his multiple court dates.
Age will be a factor for some, but it’s absolutely not the defining factor of this election.
Its going to be a big factor. One or two slip ups in the debates from either side could be critical. Regards the electorate they will want to know the man in charge has his wits about him. This is fair. Not a harsh commentary on the electorate at all. How many of us would react negatively in Ireland to an 80 year old Taoiseach, and what factor would it play in going for someone younger?
Trump of course is no spring chicken.
But there is nothing wrong with the electorate asking, is this person too old? They don't get that choice in a lot of dictatorships around the world.
Then why don't they tell the MAGA people that the seats will be lost to the Democrats if MAGA loons are elected as candidate in the Republican primaries?
Because they don't care and don't accept that they will lose.. And if they do lose it will be because the other side cheated not because they are loons..
They are a cult , simple as that..
Asking if someone is too old is of course a pertinent question. But in this election, if age is a genuine concern for you, then it would apply to both candidates. I can’t take anyone seriously if they think Biden is too old but Trump is totally fine.
And it’s presumptuous to even think there’ll be debates at all - Trump hasn’t done any in the lead up to the primaries and the GOP have already hinted they think debates are unfair or biased. If debates do go ahead, I think Trump would have more to be concerned about than a gaffe or two. He’s shown he’s terrible unless he has prepared speech to his base, and really can’t debate in any real political sense.
It's highly probable there are many secretly anti-Trump people in the deep red states, but it's a bit difficult to quantify exactly how many and whether they'll turn out if they're not telling anyone, and they may not even know it themselves if they don't really think about their political affiliation until the presidential election is looming.
Probably not telling anyone. MAGAs are violent lunatics.
It's possible they believed it was settled at the time of their Senate hearings - SCOTUS had not yet heard the arguments in the case in which the anti-abortion state governments wanted Roe v Wade reversed. When you see new information, you might have to change your mind - that happens in all walks of life, not just in court cases.
Nonsense.
Absolutely no new legal arguments were introduced. They simply finally had the conservative majority they needed to kill it.
Nothing whatsoever to do with some new legal viewpoint.
The arguments put by the anti-abortion side to SCOTUS may not necessarily have been exactly the same as whatever Kavanaugh and Barrett had studied at the time of the Senate hearings. It's possible that there was different context when SCOTUS heard the case. We don't know the exact text of the arguments of both sides in the court case.
Asking what way judges will vote or would have voted is something of a perversion of the confirmation process anyway.
