I had loads of companies just flat out not quote at all. In fact more didn't quoted than provided a quote. No points no claims ever etc etc
feck it, any particular reason for the increase? mine not due up till summer.
I have friends driving byd id and ionic and no issues at all. I’m wondering if it’s a Tesla issue. The insurance company won’t comment on reasons and just say it’s the underwriters
I’m the same position.
Same for me. received my renewal from 123.ie and it increased from about 400 to 600 (50% increase). Have sought quotes (online only) and cant find a more competitive quotation with a lot refusing a quote (online), but have heard from others that if you call you may be more successful. I will wait a little longer before acting but there is most definitely a shift in appetite from Insurers for Tesla cars.
None that I know of. In my mind it appears to be a Tesla thing.
I am not finding that with my Model 3. Possibly the Y is more expensive to repair with larger castings, but I don’t know. Mine was just €340. A little cheaper than last year. With Aviva, but we have 2 cars , boat and house with them. Also I am supposed to be the safest age group, little do they know🤣.
I wonder where this compares to the likes of Graham walker. I noticed on his site he doesn’t advertise that he’s actively buying Teslas anymore. You only find it when you click into a car and it’s a one liner in the spec column. I wonder has he slowed down on taking them in since the price adjusted again recently.
out of interest what spec? LR or RWD?
Mine came down this year. Try Allianz.
He’s been posting direct to the FB Group looking for them. He had none 2 weeks ago and bought a bunch of them which are for sale now.
oh that’s good. I don’t do social media so wasn’t aware of his fb page. Cheers.
Allianz are competitive (even if it’s still higher than what I usually pay!)
Tesla are more complicated to repair. As in, it's a complicated process to order and receive parts.
Think you've been frustrated with Tesla contact after you ordered your car? Try running a repair business and there's zero ETA for parts. Car taking up space in workshop.
I'm not surprised if they charge insurance company more to repair.
are ye trying to get these quotes on the more powerful car?
or are they still high with the standard model
€655 on an LR with 123. Would have been €100 lower if we'd remained in the <25,000 km pa bracket like other years.
I really wish Tesla implemented a manual precondition, it’s a pain having to navigate to a charger you don’t want to go to just to get it to precondition.
If you really want it get your self some S3XY buttons, I use them for manual preheating and to turn off autowipers/highbeams when using auto pilot.
It's a blue, RWD.
On Insurance, mine stayed the same as last year with Aviva.€310. I do have both our cars and the house with them and I have the IAM advanced driving course which is good for another 20% off.
I also pass by Graham Walker in Harold's Cross daily and at the moment he has about 5 Teslas for sale outside and in the window of his business. Including 2, 241 D M3H ones.
How much do they set you back? And are they easy to install? I hate pulling off trim if that is needed.
insurance quotes are pretty basic at the top level - it’s just a mix of the risk associated with a driver, and the risk with the car.
the risk with the driver won’t change much if at all from year to year - e.g a 45yo woman with a clean NCB won’t suddenly become more or less of a risk, as there’s literally 100 years of data.
However, we’ve now had 3-4 years of claim data on Tesla’s (UK & Ireland) and it shows a far higher risk premium based on the cost, availability & duration of repairs
Hello, my wife kerbed my MYLR very badly smashing the plastic wheelcap and the scraping the alloy also. This also took a chunk out of the sidewall of the front tyre:
While it might be ok to drive I'm taking on a 4000km trip to Europe in a few weeks so don't want to take any chances. Car has about 8000km on it so tyres would not need replacing for a while, but I think it probably makes sense to replace both front tyres now.
Here are the specs:
These seem to be an exact replacement but they are expensive at €275 a piece: https://www.oponeo.ie/tyre/hankook-ventus-s1-evo3-ev-k127e-255-45-r19-104-w-xl-t2-sound-absorber#469117273
There are also these ones which are €100 cheaper each: https://www.oponeo.ie/tyre/hankook-ventus-s1-evo3-k127-255-45-r19-104-y-xl-mo#468430650
I can't see much of a difference, they are 104Y instead of 104W.
If anyone had any input on which to go with that would be good!
The Ventus S1s are the OE tyre for the MY, no?
You need to pull one trim panel at the back of the centre console. Was pretty easy to install. I think I paid around £150 on Amazon for them.
Pricing on Model Y was increased this week in some European markets (Germany and Norway +EUR2K on RWD and +EUR2.5K on LR) where it is now once again more expensive than Model 3. Something to consider for those who may be sitting on the fence about placing an order to lock in current pricing ...now might be a good time
@blobert, my condolences on the sudden and unexpected passing of your tyre. It has been terminally damaged and is due a transplant, especially if you are driving cross-continent.
Looking at specs the only difference is speed 267 Vs 307 kmh. I'd say make the saving. Load rating which is the most important for heavyvev , is the same.
Most horror stories about tyre change on EV seem to be around load rating. New tyre deforms under weight, causing wobbly uncontrolled drive.
Or at the very least, place your deposit down to lock in the lower price. 👍
Tyre should be fine I'd say. I've done similar and crawled gingerly to a tyre place only for them to say it's not a problem. If it's bulging then you need to worry!
Worth noting the second set are M0, designed for Mercedes. I took a punt on pirelli M0's, they do the job fine but the flange is a bit different, so it show a bit more of the wheel rim.
Seconded, except the bulging bit. But the chunk that is missing is part of the rim protection lip so doesn't have any effect on the tyre integrity.
Anyone any issues getting insurance for their Model Y? I'm struggling to get a quote!
