All possible of course.
But I think Jules would, like most mothers, put her children first if she so much as suspected him of a sex murder.
Perhaps someone who knew a bit about wine? Hardly threw it away..
Although it appears it may have been available in Ireland.
Absolutely.
Thanks. Per the net of course it may not have been for that year and may have been one to keep for the future..
"Vintage quality: Legendary
Current condition: Ready to drink
Bailey was abusive toward her and she was fearful of him so she was never going to kick him out until the day arrived when he was no longer capable of being violent toward her.
The scent of money was in the air as well with Bailey, no doubt, hoping to amass a small fortune as a result of the numerous defamation cases he instigated.
There's a thread over on Reddit, someone has done a lot of research on Sophie, her life in France, her relationships and personality etc.
Murder at the Cottage I think it's called.
Funnily enough I've just been re- reading the statement re the wine bottle. It was fingerprinted with a negative result but never tested for DNA. There's very little info about it other than that it was "Pierre Jean" and was unopened.
I excluded the drunkenness. And my statement is also about a possible theory, one of many.
Everything in this case is either could be nothing or huge to solve case.
The wine bottle is such a weird one. It could have been taken after murder by killer walking back that road.
It could have been taken earlier by say alphie before keys changed
It could have been thrown from car.
I may be wrong but I read she was pretty tough and said what she said.
What if who did it was knew she liked the wine appeared with it then she refuses advances and taunts him so he's no man etc. Thus to me would explain the barbaric violence the killed used....
"Bailey would have needed two hours to hike to and from"
Probably more than two hours, the difference between Google maps and Drunk Bailey- staggering! ( as the kid in the ad says)
This means, if he did it and did it quickly Bailey would have needed two hours to hike to and from, kill Sophie, and maybe another hour to shower properly at the studio ( actually a self contained house ) as well as discard the clothes and whatever else evidence, and return to Jules house.
"That and the fact one of his attacks on her was while she was protecting her 18 year old daughter from his advances."
Interesting, when was this?
Yes,
But that's a different point.
He was, undoubtedly, a violent, unpleasant thug. And Jules was glad to see the back of him, as were her daughters who, as you rightly say, could not abide him.
But for a mother to allow a man, whom she knew to be a sex murderer, to live with her and her daughters for all those years, is an entirely different proposition.
I don't think any mother would contemplate that.
It was found by the road near the end of the boreen. If it was 'placed' any nearer it would have to be actually in the boreen.
By placing it in the boreen it would draw attention to the few people that used that boreen regularly.
She gave him the initial alibi, which turned out to be a pack of lies.
Would you consider that covering for him?
Her statement about his feeling on hunts hill she later denied despite Bailey saying in court it was true.
I would take anything she says with a grain of salt.
She wasn't happy with either.
She'd been trying to boot him out for years. The daughters stopped coming near the place and refused to while he was there. Eventually one of the daughters wrote him a letter telling him to go. And only then when physically he was no longer a threat to Jules.
That and the fact one of his attacks on her was while she was protecting her 18 year old daughter from his advances.
So yes sex crazed maniac just about sums it up. His diaries also back this up.
Hate to bother you but have you any info on the wine bottle? Was it retested for trace DNA, was it missing at one point. I understand it was full and a Bordeaux..
Thrown out a car window maybe In haste? I suspect whoever put that bottle there knows what happened.
A “cursory glance” I believe was the term used.
True but her reasoning having known him for so long was that he was messy (so where were the bloody clothes, etc?) and he also couldn't keep his mouth shut.
Have you seriously not read the DPP analysis of the garda's "evidence" against Ian Bailey (which I believe was the one and only time the DPP's office felt the need to take this action)?
And if you accept that he did it and Jules knew, you have to accept that:
She was happy to protect a murderer for 27 years.
and
She was happy for a violent sex murderer to live with her daughters.
It's likely she didn't know agreed , likely!
In which case she has nothing to offer as you say
Also possible she's unaware of his guilt which means her sting his innocence is without merit which was my original point
Theres very little that can be proven here in these matters
FFS so no matter what, he did it and she is in on it 🙄
If she knew he did it, she could easily have struck a deal with AGS for indemnity once he died if she testified. But she hasn't! In fact, she was quick off the mark to repeat that she knows he was innocent.
Not sure what you're saying there regarding confessions
He told multiple people he killed her
As far as Jules stement re his guilt we have to be sceptical of that given her position. She may incriminate herself saying otherwise.

What did he say ?
Seems odd when the receivers took them seriously
An expensive bottle of French wine (only available in France) found on the side of a coutry road in Ireland in a remote area close to where a French lady was murdered, close in that to place it any closer would involve going down the cul de sac and limiting the depositors to the people using that cul de sac. If it was placed there as a deflection then of course it would have to be" found" wouldn't it?
She's hardly going to say otherwise, that she knew he was guilty all along.
