Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
Can I ask you guys how you got the presale link? I have heard nothing from MCD! I am a massive Smiths fan, saw Johnny in his first Dublin gig in the Academy in 2013 so any help is much appreciated!
Sent onto you there.check your Dms, @fluke sent it into me earlier. I usually get the MCD presales on email but didn't receive one for this
Saw Sugababes sold out Iveagh Gardens. Will be interesting to see if they sell 5k tickets in Cork. Marquee line up fairly uninspiring so far this year but guess still a few more acts to come. Must only be 5 acts or so to be announced at this stage
Sent to original poster by mistake. Should be with you now .sorry
13 LATM shows announced so far
Is it something like 19 gigs planned for there? Thought I read something like that before
No surprise here
Its disappointing but to be expected.
Bryan Adams is about the only decent act, Sugababes have some decent tunes too.
I dont think Aiken can compete anymore with a venue of only 5k capacity with acts demanding so much money nowadays.
Saw him in the Opera house last year or the year before, I think it was 96 euro for a ticket and the setlist was lousy.
He just walked off stage after 90 minutes and the band kept playing for around 10 minutes more but he never came back.
Had exactly the same experience in the 3arena about 2007ish
I took my mum, who's a massive fan, and she was gutted. She'd seem him on a good night a few years previous and said he was electric, he just can't be bothered most of the time
Last time he played the 3Arena tickets were been given away on the day (I got three). He was actually on form and Robert Plant was supporting but yeah I'd say this will be expensive and very much mood dependent.
He was in decent form in the Opera house and sang well and the band were good.
He wasnt grumpy, it was just the setlist, it was lousy.
Left out most of his hits and sang some terrible tunes instead.
If Im paying 96 euro I want to at least hear 6-7 of his hits.
No Brown Eyed Girl, Bright Side of the Road, Have I Told You Lately, Moondance, Sweet Thing, Crazy Love, Domino, Here Comes the Night, Enlightenment.
Was there, was a great gig and setlist. I guess the ego of him vrs Plant probably made him put on a good show.
He's a tight bandmaster, could see him giving angry looks occasionally to his band.
Is Adams ever not touring
I know someone who got fired from his band for putting a foot on a monitor.
Shame hes so hit and miss really becuase he has the tunes, sounds kinda like he did when he was young and always has a great band.
His gigs could still sound like this now if he wanted.
Sure he 'plays his guitar till his fingers bleed'
Actually 14 events so far, plenty of gaps for more, they had about 18 events last year, i wonder if they could get any of these, who are all touring in Ireland, around Marquee time:
Elbow, Fatboy Slim, Two Door Cinema Club, Saw Doctors, Johnny Marr, Paul Weller
Also, The Fontaines DC had a gig announced for the Marquee in 2020, but it was cancelled 2 weeks before, due to Covid. They could play the Marquee before they head off on their Euro summer festival tour in mid June.
To be honest it's just been that handy tag on that I've seen elsewhere on the gigs thread. Worked a treat
Only say him once live in 2000 at the Point, but I was there to see Bobby 'Blue' Bland who was sharing the bill. Great set by Bobby. Can't remember too much about Van's performance that night.
Love his music but never really had the urge to see him live since - a very strange dynamic I'll admit!
The Kneecap summer tour, no doubt other festivals may be added to their tour.
pretty much of those are mcd acts, limited to no chance of marquee shows as a result and a lot wouldn’t sell 5k in cork. Elbow haven’t sold 4500 in Dublin in trinity so slime chance about cork.
Real Real Gone was another one he didnt play in Cork now that I think of it.
Wrong thread
Fair enough on the numbers, however, Elbow played the marquee before and Fontaines were announced for the Marquee and later cancelled in 2020, re Covid.
It is much more regular in recent years for an act to play Dublin with MCD, and play Cork Marquee with Aikens, Brian Adams & The Waterboys some of the many examples.
He’s an erratic performer for sure, best when he has another respected performer alongside him. Caught him with Bobby Bland in support at the Albert Hall circa 25 years ago and he was amazing. Equally so at Glastonbury ‘89 but decreasing rewards these days.
Recent setlists are 80% covers so I’ll cling to the memories and give this a miss. Probably won’t see him again unless he revisits the Astral Weeks gigs or does all of Veedon Fleece, Moondance, etc. But that’d be too conventional for the dude. Maybe he’ll finally do EP some year?
He'd be an ideal candidate for the Boardsie meet up. We're always happy to welcome another moany old git to the fold. I'll stand him a tiny warm overpriced can of Moretti at the Salty Dog before These Charming Men get going. Pass that on to him. Genuine offer.
Elbow played marquee when they were far more popular.
yeah mcd didn’t have much to offer there acts in cork but now gambling on a few double bills of previous latm acts like crowded house and waterboys.
sure people would complain if those acts just did marquee again this summer.
fontaines only doing one Irish summer show this year. I’m sure next year with a new album they will do more around the country shows including cork.
booking big shows in cork is difficult as artist that can shift 5000 tickets in the summer are probably in demand everywhere and might only have one day free for ireland and will take a bigger festival or Dublin show instead for more money.
this whole aiken should be more adventurous with LATM doesn’t met reality than a bad night there can cost €100k plus. If you have 3 or 4 bad nights it’s not a pretty sight.
ATN/EP potentially I wonder
Pearl Jam codes sent out.
As with Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo etc, a total shitshow of a process randomly gatekeeping access.
How anyone thinks this is the best solution to manage demand is beyond me.
I think it's more a way to help gauge demand and then plan for dynamic pricing / extra shows. No benefit to the punter.
