Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
The usual suffixes will work I believe!
What about barring accounts that don't even exist ? 😂
Someone mind firing on a presale code for Johnny Marr? I’d be a big Smiths fan. Saw him last year at EP and Dublin a few years back, mans still got it. Looking at setlist I really hope he plays boy with the thorn in his side and cemetery gates
edit; seen the presale thread, my bad.
First announcement for 2025 and of course no irish date
That poster really adds nothing to the music gig forums. Just sticks up for promoters, tries to guess upcoming gigs but gets most wrong, as well of getting lots of other venue related information wrong.
Ah, am so tempted. I think you’re right.
I'm not surprised by your standard shoulder shrugging at ticketmasters approach to things, it's par for the course.
Of course there's no miracle cure but they could try. Barring sign ups from accounts that have never purchased tickets before would be an easy start. How anyone can be a "verified fan" using an account that's never bought tickets is beyond me. Or only allow one name/one address in the entries. And if they're going to peddle a random selection approach, at least call it that and quit the misleading title.
Is a Pearl Jam, Coldplay or Olivia Rodrigo sale going to crash their servers? Of course not. And even if it is, maybe they should spend the insane money they take on "service charges" to fix their infrastructure.
Yeah, I'm in there too. Mad stuff. Could be a really special gig, I think.
Thats true for Swift, it isn't remotely true for Rodrigo/Pearl Jam
TVAM in Workmans Club, Thursday 9th May: https://selectivememory.ie/tvam-2024/
quite simply there was no miracle cure to allow millions upon millions of people try to access the same website to buy a few million tickets in a short window of a morning.
as for barring people from a chance, they wouldn’t had a chance if open to everyone.
There may a justification in throttling traffic but there is no justification for randomly barring fans from having even the ability to get tickets. It's lazy.
With Taylor Swift it was justified in sense that you would have had millions upon of IP addresses on same loading page trying to pick, select tickets and process them. It would have crashed the ticketmaster servers in my opinion as all tickets went on sale at same time.
as for others probably wasn’t justified in most places, could see Olivia Rodrigo demand being crazy in America especially.
Any publicity is good publicity? Suppose it creates more of a rush to try get them.
As Ive said before you dont even need an account to apply for the Verified fan bollix.
Its complete nonsense, you can win on an account that doesn't even exist, thats how stupid it is.
What I don't understand is how Ticketmaster used to be able to sell hundreds of thousands of tickets for a tour in 30 minutes 10 years ago.
Now they have people in queues for half the day to sell 80k tickets.
It makes no sense.
I see where you're coming from but I still don't think it's used as an indicator of demand in any way. For super-popular gigs you're going to have people registering like crazy with multiple accounts and friends accounts but 'their demand' might only be two tickets. Add to that that you've no idea if a punter is looking for 1, 2 or 8 tickets.
It's just a randomizer to manage their servers is my only guess. Which frankly is outrageous.
I'm sure they take that into account. No data point on its own is foolproof but it's another strong indicator.
If 10,000 v 100,000 register then I'm sure that helps them plan.
It can't realistically be a way to measure demand, its absolutely useless. Most people I know who signed up used multiple e-mail addresses (some used four or five). That's not measuring demand at all because Ticketmaster can't determine how many people want to attend, just how many e-mail addresses have applied.
So they get 350,000 e-mail requests for tickets. How many people are behind those 350,000 requests? It's impossible to tell.
I'd say it'll sell decent, they pulled a big crowd at ATN last year. Great pop act.
Thats its purpose exactly, its not fan friendly.
To be fair to Swift it probably was necessary for her tour to avoid crashing Ticketmaster and it was obvious she’d sell out 3 or 4 nights despite Croke Park
I think it's more a way to help gauge demand and then plan for dynamic pricing / extra shows. No benefit to the punter.
Pearl Jam codes sent out.
As with Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo etc, a total shitshow of a process randomly gatekeeping access.
How anyone thinks this is the best solution to manage demand is beyond me.
ATN/EP potentially I wonder
Elbow played marquee when they were far more popular.
yeah mcd didn’t have much to offer there acts in cork but now gambling on a few double bills of previous latm acts like crowded house and waterboys.
sure people would complain if those acts just did marquee again this summer.
fontaines only doing one Irish summer show this year. I’m sure next year with a new album they will do more around the country shows including cork.
booking big shows in cork is difficult as artist that can shift 5000 tickets in the summer are probably in demand everywhere and might only have one day free for ireland and will take a bigger festival or Dublin show instead for more money.
this whole aiken should be more adventurous with LATM doesn’t met reality than a bad night there can cost €100k plus. If you have 3 or 4 bad nights it’s not a pretty sight.
He'd be an ideal candidate for the Boardsie meet up. We're always happy to welcome another moany old git to the fold. I'll stand him a tiny warm overpriced can of Moretti at the Salty Dog before These Charming Men get going. Pass that on to him. Genuine offer.
He’s an erratic performer for sure, best when he has another respected performer alongside him. Caught him with Bobby Bland in support at the Albert Hall circa 25 years ago and he was amazing. Equally so at Glastonbury ‘89 but decreasing rewards these days.
Recent setlists are 80% covers so I’ll cling to the memories and give this a miss. Probably won’t see him again unless he revisits the Astral Weeks gigs or does all of Veedon Fleece, Moondance, etc. But that’d be too conventional for the dude. Maybe he’ll finally do EP some year?
Fair enough on the numbers, however, Elbow played the marquee before and Fontaines were announced for the Marquee and later cancelled in 2020, re Covid.
It is much more regular in recent years for an act to play Dublin with MCD, and play Cork Marquee with Aikens, Brian Adams & The Waterboys some of the many examples.
