The recurring revenue stream is the key to these RO companies.
I put in a two stage water filter, 100 euro CapEx and 13 euro OpEx on filters every 6-9 months.
Town supply water was undrinkable up to then
In // I put a water softener for the rest of the house: this water is not filtered
CapEx c 800 and OpEx maybe 10 euro every 2 months on salt, plus elec running costs.
The removal of the lime has made massive difference to all aspects of washing, the most obvious one being xero streaking on the glass shower doors.
I think the handling fee is tiny though.
Theres a lot of processing and handling involved.
You can be sure they'll be places charging the deposit & keeping the cans too.
All bars and restaurants still pay the deposit to their wholesaler.
I'm assuming they can exempt themselves from take backs off the general public and still send the stuff back via the manual services.
Thats interesting. Could be a cheaper solution for some for sure. For the newer filters if you have enough pressure (6bar I think) you can do away with the electric supply.
Our water doesnt need softened. The problem with our supply is metals and chemicals. IIRC you need more than the 2 stages for that.
If you dont mind I have a quick question about sanitising the unit. I'll send via PM.
The retailer has already paid the deposit. Their involvement in the scheme is done.
Nice litter earner? Are you sure?
2ish Euro for every 100 cans and bottles manually inspected, processed and stored?
Wouldn't pay for the labour.
Also I imagine the amount of custom they would loose would be multiples of what they earned.
Who is going to shop in a place where droves of people are carting in their bags of trash?
From a time and health perspective.
Certainly not me.
Nah, the reality is if the machine rejects your containers, tough shít.
What is your opinion on that?
Quoting my own post, as no one seemed to know ... just got onto Re-Turn chat and they confirmed there is no time limit.
Yeah that's what I'm wondering, do they still have access to the pick ups if they don't do the take backs. I haven't seen it explicitly laid out.
I presume in the real world a small shop or restaurant could just tell the general public they don't accept returns due to (insert excuse here)
And then use the return bags for their own bottles and cans anyway.
Also I imagine the amount of custom they would loose would be multiples of what they earned
Why not?
Are you getting confused between trash and recycling, I know you struggled to understand the concept before but I thought you at least knew what recycling is haha!
From a time and health perspective
This is the 3rd time you've made a suggestion about returns taking time without proof, if you can't prove your theory would you ever stop saying it, makes you look thick
Also what's the health perspective? Presume you've no proof of this either lol
We have a cold water tap on the sink. Everyone has one :)
This is the 3rd time you've made a suggestion about returns taking time without proof
Is this a wind up?
Don't know about that, a member of the TC might take a case of discrimination, int doesn't need a basis
Bring the empty back to the retailer airside.
There would be no discrimination if it applies to everybody.
So if I owned a small shop and said "sorry I can't accept them as I've not received any bags this week" or any other generic excuse I don't think there's much anybody can do.
Say I walk into Dunnes today and they have "out of order" on the machine. What can I do?
I dont agree with a lot of with what @Boggles says on this site, but you have to be able to see that people will stockpile black bags of cans and bottles with the rest of their household rubbish at best, and sheds etc at worst.
Hands touch cans while using the machines, no handwashing before that and shopping, person goes shopping touching all around them as they go.
People are disgusting enough most of the time, this just adds to it. Would have been nice to see hand sanitiser or something beside the RVMs - maybe aldi has it?
There is a unit airside in each terminal in Dublin. None on the map for the other airports but the map is not complete.
How does one becomes exempt??? If they are exempt from charging the 15c on the bottle of coke.... they must be exempt on paying same to Coca Cola at source. Therefore coca Cola would have to do up special bottles just for them as otherwise customer could use the ReTurn branded bottles to claim back the 15c. Depends on the size of the Shop Unit selling Coke bottle at the Airport they may get an exemption due to size and therefore would not have to refund the charge OR put in a machine. if an overseas customer... the 15c is now useless and so Return are up the monies.
Bring it home again.
Special bottles, secure supply chain, I'd say the cost will be well above the 15c deposit.
If they have a machine and not working you have the manual return inside the shop as long as Logo is clearly seen.
I wonder could they use the same stock and supply chain as is used on the aircraft ?
And join the mile long queue to get your 15 cent back?
Agreed. I think its fair to say most participating in Re-Turn (those who aren't driving round trying to find a functioning RVM then home again) will want to use the RVMs to clear space in their car and get a voucher before doing their shopping. You know, people trying to do their bit to save double journeys for the environment. Recyclables that have been sitting in someone's home will be harbouring filth even if rinsed. After using the RVMs we'll have shoppers transferring said filth onto trolleys, fridge / freezer handles, packaging, loose groceries etc. Will some hand sanitizer do the job? How many will actually bother sanitising?
When handling recyclables at home putting them outside in the blue bin we always thoroughly wash our hands with hot water soon as we're done. Same when we get back from the local bottle banks.
So if Ryanair are loading cans of Coke onto a plane in SNN that's a specially produced can with no deposit charged?
I would be more worried about what is going to happen to general waste when waste companies up their prices and less people employ their services. It's bad enough already. To the point that they are supposedly going door to door, checking for proof of waste charges. We'll have a country of full RVM's but ditches full of black sacks.
I don't know about Coke because I don't drink it but the beer served on airlines is different to what you get in the off-licence.
