There was always a second event when the WGCs were on.
You'll get sponsors easily, the prize money won't be as big but fed ex and world ranking points are important.
They have a second tournament for some of the signature events but not them all.
Less pga tour players in wgc as wasn’t just a pga event as a players from other tours got in
Did you miss the bit where I said some of the signature events are being run at the same time as another PGA tour event?
Did you miss my point which is players are being penalised for one bad Fed Ex Cup, last season, and not just losing out on Fed Ex cup points this year which makes it harder for them but also losing out on world ranking points.
It's very unfair, you should not have a lesser opportunity to make it to the Fed Ex Cup finals because of your final ranking last year. You should never have less opportunities to earn world ranking points than players in a limited field.
You've got guys in the top 50, top 100 in the world and they are not playing while guys with a 120+ world ranking are playing and have a free shot to go past players above them with no opportunity to play and earn points.
So you think that's a fair system?
Two of the events are not in the USA so that’s their chance to hold a pfa event. Other is a new event with 300 fedex points.
Them are the rules of getting into them. Maybe it’ll change for next season. Forget about the world rankings. It’s a pga tour event. They set the rules of entry. They’ve 5 invites to each one and Shane got ignored so far. Might still get the phone call from eldrick telling him he can get his name on the timesheet. Maybe Shane should ask himself why he’s not getting on the invite list.
So if a player who has his pga card for 20 years and has a bad year and looses his card he still keep it because of a bad year. The in previous years is to keep in top 50 in owgr to keep getting into wgc events and helped you stay there. Now it’s top 70 in fedex standings.
is it fair. I can’t remember when they released the criteria. If start early in pga tour then yes. Gave everyone a fair shot. Remember Shane had every major to play in compared to others ahead of him
Started like a bullet
Who's had their weetabix...
Bogey on 16 would have got some amount of boos
Conditions are like the West of Ireland tbf
Suspended now with standing water on greens
Edit: or should I say Baltray when he won!
Decent round for Shabe, hopefully he can kick in tomorrow. One thing concerned me today. He got very annoyed by a poor second shot. He couldn't get it out if his head by the looks of things, he then hit a bad third and was furious, he ended up with a bogey. He needs to sort out that attitude, I think it cost him the bogey in that hole.
Turn up to play 1 hole. Looks like it be a long day on Saturday
Play will stop in another hour or so. So double jobbing again tomorrow.
Bad last round so far
This seems to be happening him a lot recently. Start decently and fade away big time. I always worry about his fitness to last the 4 rounds in warmer climates. Hopefully he can put 4 rounds together soon or he'll keep drop down the rankings
While there is an element of luck in getting a hole-in-one or albatross ...the albatross is the superior achievement as it's 3 under par against two under for an ace..and the second shot is usually longer than the longest par 3.
Sunday blues for Shane, unfortunately similiar to last year he don't have 4 good rounds in him and hence his fall down the ranking.
Now playing the Singapore Classic March 21-24 three weeks before The Masters. Sounds like a change of plan due to the lack of starts in some of the big PGA Tour events
Interesting decision. There’s this week and palmers tournament are the only signature events before the masters so he have plenty of events to play in. I guess play the players and then a long flight to Singapore where delays are always possible with the weather
Is there a reason why Shane is not out in Mexico this week?
I imagine he never normally played there and his team have mapped out 30 plus tournaments he is comfortable playing for this year. This may be the last year he will have such luxury in deciding where he plays as there is no sentiment in pro golf for a player sliding down the ranking.
Next week in Florida so I assume he’s playing there
I'm sure Shane is not as devoid in confidence as some posters on here.
I'd say he's preparing himself for a favourable slate of courses coming up with the ultimate goal of contending at Augusta again after a T-3 two years ago and a T-16 last year.
He has PGA National and Sawgrass coming up which are great fits for his game. A bigger mistake would be to go chasing around the place to courses he doesn't know.
Now if he's a no show throughout the Florida swing maybe the worries are justified!
He should be playing every week in my opinion, especially weeks like this where you have a weaker field.
He's missed the cut a few times in his first event back after a few weeks off and he can't afford that right now. He had last week off, Mexico is a great chance of at least a high finish.
Now I don't want to get all critical of the man. He seems like he adores his family and may want to spend as much time with them as possible. We rarely consider off the course factors and I think we should. If the reason for him taking weeks off is his family then I say good on you Shane.
I was about to criticise what you were saying, but then you said exactly my response in the second half of your post.
He's earned the right to prioritise his family and have a better work/life balance. So, I also say fair play to him and I think he can also play well in the coming weeks to have the best of both!
I assume he skipped this week as playing next week and maybe he’s hoping he gets his name on the timesheet for arnie event and then he’ll have the players the following week. So it be 3 weeks in a row. Maybe Mastercard will get him on the timesheet since they sponsor him.
He has entered the European tour event in Singapore which is the week after the Players. It seems like a funny time of the season to make such a long trip. I assume that he won't play much between that and the Masters.
He’s got an invite for bay hill. Next few weeks will be big for Shane. Even more strange going to Singapore now as end of a 4 week run. The money must be worth it going all that distance
This is a big week for him. He likes this course, it's perfect for him as it plays to his strengths. Robbed by Straka's eagle at the last a couple of years ago if you remember.
He lives near the course as well so that's another good thing.
I don’t think he was robbed. Shane got nervous from my memory. Straka birdied the last
It was a torrential downpour for the last couple, Shane had to play more holes in it than Sepp, was very unlucky, the last went from a near gimme birdie hole to quite tricky.
Was he one or two groups ahead?
