You'd be mad to buy the ID3 Pro S Plus at that money when you can get the bigger ID4 with the 280BHP motors for very similar.
I'm thinking about the 58kWh (432km) id3 but what is holding me back is the range. I need the car to get from Dublin to Mayo (255km) on a single charge and not to worry about running low on power.
Do you think im worried about nothing and the id3 will easily do 255km on one charge, even in the middle of winter?
Would the optional heat pump help?
The long range version is a no go due to price and it having only 4 seats.
No not on PCP, own car outright
Wonder if VW ie Joe Duffy will just farm it out
I know a good repairer myself, did a perfect on my previous car, so just wondering if i leave with VW, could it come back at me sometime if i go to trade in against another VW?
At this stage im leaning to bringing it to my own guy, as i know he will do a perfect job?
Yeah the car will do that trip no problem. I presume the way you phrased it you will be charging in mayo? Keep the car under 22kwh per 100km and you'll make it. Drop your speed to 100/110 if you have to, makes very little difference to journey time. It's not all motorway anyway isn't that right?
I've the cupra born so same thing, my long term average over 18 months and 2 winters is 16kwh per 100kms.
I've regularly done Dublin to limerick, cork and Antrim and either destination charge or charge on return trip. I got to Antrim one time with 50% battery remaining by dropping my speed, just to see what I could achieve. Was just over 200kms trip, charged in castlebellingham applegreen on the way back for about 10 mins to make sure I got back. It was a nice warm day though, I remember another time charging at same place on way back and the battery was very low in winter, that's after 300kms though.
Maybe they don’t want a bigger car and motor?
Maybe not but the value but is the ID4 or one of the Teslas.
Get VW to quote for a repair, if they say it's only cosmetic damage then go back to your own guy.
Absolutely.no problem what so ever you'll get 250km.8n artic conditions driving the wheels off it
Fs it's a bit of paint, you said yourself everything is working fine ,give the guy a break ,VW are going to milk the situation ,think of the expert as paying it forward, might eventually get you some good karma
I'm not sure what route you would take, but there are high speed DC fast chargers in Charlestown, Claremorris and Tuam, which will give you reasonable certainty on a quick top up.
I think you are overthinking the "single charge" issue.
I would disagree with that. There have been days this year, the worst ones, where mine wouldn't have covered 250km. And that is without any motorway driving.
I'd agree, my consumption was very bad during that cold spell too, no way it would have covered 255km on a single charge.
Interesting point. I wasn't thinking ID.4 at all and hadn't seen those new prices. Not that mad about the bigger car and don't need it, bur certainly worth considering, thanks.
That's it. I suppose my original trade-in / cost to change question is the same either way.... has anyone traded for a new Tour (which I like) or ID4 77 KW recently at newest prices and what sort of cost to change were you quoted? Any experience will be appreciated.... thanks.
I’d say best thing to do would be to email a few garages.
the tour is also more efficient than the ID.4. This matters in our house at least on 30000 km a year.
Yes, i agree got a decent price from a non vw dealer to repair so if get ok from accident driver , willing to go ahead with
That's my worry. The trip is from Dublin to Ballina so about 1/3 motorway driving. I want to be able to cover this distance no matter the weather on a single charge. I really don't want to rely on charging en-route.
So there appears to be a split view on here that the 58kWh id3 can do or not do 255km in the middle of winter.
First off, you will not even have 58kWh battery when you buy it new, maybe 52 or 53 kWh at most. In winter, cold, wet and or windy conditions and with motorway driving, there is no way it will do 255km on one charge. Mine was down as low as 220 km in sub zero conditions driving at between 80 and 100 kph for a 120 km return journey commute.
I wonder would the heat pump make any difference to winter range.
It sounds a bit tight to me alright. My experience has been about 320 km at 80% during summer, about 250/260 km at 80% during winter. So at the recommended 80% charge max, your either not going to make it or be stressed out trying. You could of course charge to 100% or maybe even 90% to give yourself a margin, but 100% is not recommended for battery health.... For the motorway driving part if you keep it a bit easy at about 100 km/hr that does not have to be an issue, but if you push it up to 120 it really does hit the range.
If you need to charge the car to 100% just charge it to 100%. Crazy carry on leaving it at 80% all the time.
True, but if you need to do it all the time, i.e. every day as the O.P. may need, the you would at least need to think of the implications for the battery and longer term value of your car if the battery deteriorates.....
Absolute worst I've ever seen was 260 odd best 385, 58kwh facelift id3 whatever they call the boggy one now.previous one ID3 LIFE 58KWH 204HP was maybe 15% less efficient.I Do get the impression the 200hp one get slightly better range for some reason
This charge to 80% nuts fine if it's gonna sit there unused for days or more at a high state of charge,if the things being used charge it to full it won't be spending any appreciable length of time full
Just charge the car to 100% if you need it.
I used to do South Dublin to just west of Galway very regularly in an ID3. Worse I ever had was arriving with 6% battery left and that was in middle of winter on a very wet and cold day. Trip is 227 km with at least 80% of that on M4/6. Based on what you are describing I can't see you haven't trouble getting 255 km if only 1/3 is motorway.
Getting a battery health check tomorrow, will report back. 2.5 year old Tour with 60k km.
V interested to hear the results.
will it ignore the ‘buffer’ that manufacturers seem to Apple, or is that what people mean by 58kw and 52/53kw usable?
The id3 is 62 and 58 usable isn't it?
I'd say he would manage it too. Just stay at 100 km/h on the motorway. And maybe drive 85-90 km/h on the good sections of the N5. Especially the first trip so you can gauge and maybe second trip stay at 100km/h so speed limit on all sections apart from motorway if you had a lot of range left. You will always have to drive that speed on the motorway as that wipes the battery quickly if you drive faster.
