now await the usual whataboutism to kick in...3,2,1...
Let's just remember, Putin said stop providing weapons to Ukraine so they can finish the invasion. Then there's the genocide as part of the invasion. Oh and that part where he said Germany had the right to invade Poland during ww2.
NATO and the US are not the cause of the invasion of Ukraine. Claiming otherwise is buying into some pretty poor propaganda.
Should the UK lay claim to the North of France given you seem to think we should indulge the legitimacy of medieval borders?
Indeed should America return Alaska to Russia?
I would speculate that regardless of Russian nationalism, or feelings on Crimea and full independence of Ukraine from Russia etc., it is very unlikely Navalny would have taken same ultra-aggressive + hostile policies towards Ukraine (steadily building and getting worse since before 2014) or launched the war that Putin did, had he been Russia's leader.
He'd be a big massive improvement over Putin and co.
( Just on SKY ) - Alexey Navalny’s spokesperson on X:
https://twitter.com/Kira_Yarmysh/status/1758457690429305206
"The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is spreading the news of Alexey Navalny's death in IK-3. We have no confirmation of this yet. Alexey's lawyer is currently on his way to Kharp. As soon as we have some information, we will report on it."
Moldavia..in the long term
Robotnye maybe
Alaska was sold to US. Return time frame has expired. Koenigsberg, Karelia, and many other territories on the other hand should be taken away from ruSSia.
This talk of the US abandoning Europe. Even if they do Russia has been bogged down in Ukraine for 3 years and lost hundred's of thousands of men. I find the idea they could take Poland unlikely. Poland isn't Ukraine either militarily or economically. Regardless of how this war ends the Russian army has been shown up to not be as powerful as people thought.
Indeed, maybe Europe should just annex themselves to whichever Scandinavian country would have us.
Actually, on reflection that's not an entirely terrible idea given how better together they seem to have it. Seem anyway.
'twas a joke in fairness; anyone even giving a modicum of credibility to Putin's literally medieval argument about Ukraine's status as a sovereign state should be treated to ridicule. Of course that it also came with the usually rhubarb-rhubarb about the US and NATO also tells much.
Getting killed 😢
Sometimes having the numbers of fodder that Russia seems to have ( 145m or so ) can go along long way and not being too concerned about sacred life helps too ( not like the west ). Plus Putin has all the time in the world, he can just wait and then act at a time of his choosing at a favourable time .. all is going pretty well for him now thanks to the USA, Trump, the GOP. If that cash does not arrive from USA soon then UKRAINE will be and is in deep trouble.
To putin and many others the west is always weak, cares too much ( hasnt the stomach ), runs out of interest/patience ( its only been 2 years and thats showing already ) and has rules that holds it back. Not agreeing BTW, just looking at this from Russia perspective and history to an extent
Also - being scared is something the west has too. Ukraine from get go should have been allowed use weapons, long distance ones where ever they liked and brought the war into Russia .. tit for tat. Call putins bluff. At the mo and since the start Ukraine has had one hand tied behind its back with western limits. Surely it is very fare if a country unprovoked attacks you, then you have a right to bring the fight to that country also?
Ukraine and all the east Euope ex soviet countries know more than us what Russia is like .. In a nutshell Russia wont stop, it will have to be stopped. Sooner or later Europe will face this.
Though it may seem I am warmongering .. I am not, at all. I just think we are reaching a point where we will have no choice
Well, in a prison, falling out a window isn't usually an option.
Yes, this is exactly like that.
Did you miss the part where Nato & Russia had an agreement not to expand eastwards. Yet they did it 6 times.
And then wanted Ukraine also to join. And have all the complications that come with that from a Russian perspective. Which is the straw the broke the camels back.
You play with fire, you’ll get burnt.
NATO and the rest could have done so much more to prevent this
Can Biden just not executive veto over some cash to Ukraine ? There won’t be a deal with republicans for at least 6 months/post election
Not the fault of NATO that it is a popular entity in Eastern Europe and these countries rush to Apply. As their populations so wish.
Ah yes the old victim blaming again. Actually no, not even cos here's poor old Ukraine fighting for its existence now but tut tut, bad NATO for provoking Russia at all. Funny how your perspective strips Ukraine of any autonomy or say in this war and the outcome; maybe the peoples to listen to in this equation are those on the front lines trying to prevent Moscow from absorbing their country.
And yet the sun total of NATO borders have only increased exponentially because of this invasion. Thousands more along the russian border too. Not exactly a great preventative measure by moscow. Maybe think about that instead of seeking to blame "the west" for the actions of another
Yes, straight from the Kremlin, not the Guardian and Reuters.
A point perhaps:
Sorry, but that doesn't prove anything.
Anyone can cherry-pick headlines that suit any narrative. I've seen plenty of examples of contradictory headlines in Irish Times in the same day.
Did you come up with that conveniently/ neatly edited graphic yourself, or what media sources do you get your news from?
Those countries choose to be in NATO, did you ever stop to think why?
Have you anything to say about russias neo nazis,
If it wasn't for America and NATO putin would have invaded all the balcan countries by now,
RIP Navalny. A true resistance hero in a country that sorely lacks them. Another death on Putin's conscience. Very sad
//
Now all ruSSian sources also report on Navalniy's death. Killed by a dwarf. RIP
There's also the countless Russian journalists who are imprisoned, suicided outside of prison.
How has the world come to this? We've gone backwards from 20 years ago. Now we have Irish MEPs who support Putin and his regime and what they do. Yet do so living in Ireland and not have to put up with the Putin murdering machine on civil liberties but no doubt take financial support for praising the regime. Stupidity. Dangerous stupidity.
I like how one of the "before" headlines is about Trump's impeachment, as if it is Zelensky's fault that Trump tried (and failed) to extort him.
