A good friend always says that people believe what they want to believe and it doesn't have to be the truth. A glaring weakness in anyone.
*not a personal slight on anyone here but a fact none the less.
Ah yeah a great point
im not liked on here because im not a yes man and always have financials to back everything up that i say
Enjoy ur input Stan, like to hear different angles
well the video of the student in Massachusetts who thought JK Rowling was transphobic because they heard it said she was... tells you how some of our youth are being brainwashed.. thankfully the very wise teacher was able to get into the students head and got them to think for themselves rather than going by the propaganda
At ridiculous levels demand for land to rent mostly by dairy farmers never stronger …..straw going to be even scarcer next summer
i like you Stan.. we go back a long way on here... but i think i might like Whelan more... sorry..
Ah here as an old employer of mine an ex dairy farmer and a brilliant strawberry grower used to say- awaywithye!!!!
I couldnt agree morpe whelan people have a very narrow view and id say fair play get a gd rent and take it easy probably tax free farm will always be there if u rent out and is a great asset
Do u really think lad everyone believes you can rent as much land as u want in east meat for less than 250 acre ur talking pure waffle you cant even answer a simple question what will happen if you cant get land to rent.
Its a pity u didnt farm in east meath with stan as much land as u want for less than 250 acre
I can’t answer that question because I’m offered land ever year that I don’t want- I treat land like my own- I gaureentee that soil index’s and phs increase and if they don’t I can be thrown out of the land - if I look after the land it’s more beneficial to me as I will grow more tonnage of dm per ha- but also if the land owner wants to sell it it will be beneficial to them
referral is the best advertisement you can get
24 years ago we took on poorly drained low index land - we drained it and raised indexes to 4:4- maize ground
long story short was that the land was sold for 24000 an acre- we still have the rent of the land
In the next couple of days I’m going to send you some fairly sensitive and private information about my leases
if I do will you confirm without mentioning how much I actually pay for land in my area
im asking you to put your money where your mouth is
Speaking of rent,This fella is living rent free inside your head if you think you need to prove anything to him
Loaded oaten bales earlier, onto a lorry that where going to wicklow, 2 and a half hour plus spin, was costing the man getting them 280 euro a ton/45 euro a bale before transport, its crazy money but he was delighted to get them
Is oaten straw that bad for feeding and bedding? Was told there was oaten straw for me this year if I wanted
Oaten straw is harder and rougher with less soakage abilities...... it is however much better than no straw
It's grand for feeding, breaks up lovely in a tub feeder, cows can't sort it, useless for bedding, you'd nearly need two bales of oaten to one bale of winter/spring barley straw, when bedding
Agree what your saying and this is just a poster trying to get a rise all the time, Stanfit trying to engage is foolish, from working at cows for many years and listening to a very wise man from castletroy in Limerick who with his two brothers milked a lot of cows in 60,70, 80s always said it’s easier to milk a good cow than to look at a bad one everyday when I was farm apprentice back in the day. A good friend in the Naul use to say the same about feeding bullocks a bad one eats as much as a good one and he and his brother were two wise men.
Who was that- my mothers a Naul women
Actually lad ur wrong high perfotmance cattle and cows eat more thats why they produce more
Stan were all busy this time of year dont waste your time sending sensitive info to me if u have land cheap fair play to u
I'm not familiar with the farm, just googled it. That location would probably get a bit more (summer) rain than the Dublin border, so in my opinion better for growing grass. Dublin border better for maize etc, but some terrific land around Ardee. Around Drumconrath that much more hilly. Wouldn't be that far from Monaghan, but still free draining. Dublin border probably suits a higher input system growing maize etc, Drumconrath more grass based and different cows to suit.
The differences are subtle as not that far apart.
We use oaten straw in the diet feeder. Oaten straw is great for feeding. But didn't get any in 2023. We have straw from 2022, barley straw that we're using for bedding. Lovely stuff. Using the barley straw from 2023 which wouldn't be great but glad to get it in feeder. We get our straw off the man oh draws spuds for.
no I’ll send it on to you
nothing like a dose of reality to change your mindset
There was a time when lads who bought land off recievers would not be tolerated in a parish but I guess there are always lads ready to grab from those less fortunate. Those banks you are so fond of, are they the same banks who broke the country and overcharged their customers. I would suggest that you get your accounts forensically analysed, might change your opinion of them. I can guarantee you will get a refund off your friendly bank. They were all at it.
Around here people frown upon it also
You’re 100% wrong there, the hungriest animal you’ll ever have in a shed is a p grade friesian, they never stop eating. After that will be your bucket reared dairy stock and your quality continental eats 15-20% less. I know this from feeding them side by side in the same sheds.
Blaming the banks for the 2008 crash is the biggest cop out ever. To an extent everyone was to blame, the banks were only a small part of the problem.
The Government under regulated both the building and the banking sector. We are still paying for poorly build apartments and mica. The building sector and auctioneering sectors did not cover themselves in glory. From the engineer turing a blind eye to building practices to the average plasterer or blocklayer using washing up liquid instead of plasticisier. The auctioneers who colluded with builders to keep jacking up prices
You had a government who just threw money at every problem, who increased PS wages by 30%+ over a few years and increased PS numbers by 30-40% as well. It left an economy totally dependent on a construction sector and after it nearly forcing all the Multi-National companies to leave it was going to sell-off the agri-sector to achieve a carbon targets so as we could continue to build 2nd and 3rd houses for ourselves.
As I said the crash caused me a few issues, I worked outside the area involved in the crash but still took a 10% cut in my salary along with losing some fringe benefits, and my better half took about a 15% pay cut. I think tax increases cost us 4-5k net over two years.
The government increased college registration fees from1k to 3k/ years over 3 years.
So sorry but if you over borrow its your problem. As I said farmers have no problems buying repossessed diggers or loaders from other sectors but think that non payment by some in the agri-sector should be tolerated.
If you look at the vast majority of repossessions cases there is financial mismanagement by the debtor and unrealistic expectations. If there is outside factors like health issues or serious illness the banks usually restructure if the borrower engages. However the case of the vast majority of repossession's the debtors are significantly at fault.
In both the houses I bought there was no payment made for years and the borrowers had negotiated exit strategies
The thing is it was the banks that got bailed out and all the rest of us are still paying for in our taxes, everybody else were thrown to the wolves.
I bought land from banks i paid for it in full never owed a penny in my life .Those who defaulted never paid there loans yet prople on here have the check to belittle me for doing so
