Closed ex parte hearing in the docs case today
We ain't gonna learn **** right now though.
And people say that the Germans do not have a sense of humour
Irish friend of mine in USA for years - sent this Podcast link to me yesterday. It is with Chris hayes and Rachel Maddow. Pretty much a very topical history discussion around elements in USA in Pre WW2 1930s courting Anti-semitism & Facism.
Some of this I was aware of like Henry Fords alledged anti-semitism but also much more I was not aware of. Sometimes you have to look back in history to get some context now. Much mentioned in the podcast seems like rinse repeat now .. this time with Trump / GOP. OK its near 2 hours long but I found it very informative and worth the listen ( regardless of your opinion of Hayes and/or Maddow, if you have one. I didnt )

If that link doesnt work for you try any other podcast platform eg spotify ( where I listened to it ), just search for "Why Is This Happening? The Chris Hayes Podcast"
Trump takes on Taylor Swift and all those millions of Swifties. What a genius!
For which mainstream media will lap up because it generates clicks and engagement.
I would imagine Trumps understanding of how NATO is funded is probably on a par with his understanding of how tariffs work.
Posted ths on Twitter earlier.
He's basically Lindbergh in Roth's "The Plot against America". Though, I'm certain he has not read it. Maybe some of his advisors have.
"Lindbergh's first act is to sign a treaty with Nazi Germany that promises that the United States will not interfere with German expansion in Europe, known as the "Iceland Understanding," and another with Imperial Japan that promises noninterference with Japanese expansion in Asia, known as the "Hawaii Understanding."
20 year old book, but quite prophetic, if you switch out the countries.
But yeah, it's all good.
This is the thing though. He's not completely wrong about European countries not pulling their weight, though since Ukraine they are generally all ramping up, but he fundamentally does not seem to understand how the entire thing works. I think he genuinely thinks it is a bill owed to the US that they don't pay.
Advisor: "So, you asked about NATO funding? Think of the world as a shopping mall. We're the mall cops."
I would say that is about the level of his understanding.
He's officially appealed the District Court's ruling that he doesn't have Presidential Immunity to the Supreme Court. As much as they're likely to side with him on being barred from the ballots, it's hard to see how SCOTUS will side with him on this one.
Explainer....
The appellate court ruling lifted the stay on his trial proceedings unless he appealed to SCOTUS by today.
He has now asked for a stay of proceedings with SCOTUS until he can submit an appeal (via writ of certiorari).
What’s next:
DOJ will file an objection within hours.
SCOTUS needs 5 votes to grant his request for a stay. They will vote within a week.
FYI, they only need 4 votes grant his petition for cert (not yet submitted)
If they grant the stay, he buys himself more time to challenge the appellate court ruling.
If they deny, his trial proceedings will resume in the DC court.
He can still appeal the appellate court ruling with SCOTUS.
I'm not sure but the yanks in general were happy enough with the status quo, the bottom line is that they control the western world's defence and of every defence dollar pent they are getting the vast majority. I think Britain's nuclear subs cannot fire without American say so. It's like their control of GPS
Well if they do, Biden should just rock up to Trump Tower in his sunglasses and blow Trump away with a 12-gauge, because that'd be basically following Trump's argument. See how the GOP like those apples.
I also think that Trump's recent statements on NATO and encouraging Russia to attack NATO members might be the dumbest lie he's ever come out with, which is saying something. For starters, what leader of a "big NATO country" is going to sidle up to Trump and call him "Sir"? The man is utterly deluded and as we all know, has no concept of the difference between the truth and a lie.
A 2023 compilation, of yes just 2023, of yes just the 'highlights' of Trump embarrassments and gaffes and evidence of cognitive decline.
We live in a weird time, Howard Dean resigned from the race because of a weird and enthusiastic scream. Trump moans sexually on stage 20 years later, and people think 'yeah, he's electable'
Is there a possibility that November's election could be postponed pending the outcome of SC determination on his 'immunity'?
Not a snowballs chance in hell.

Donald Stump? 😂
Does anyone believe Trumps story actually happened?
'The Tuesday next after the 1st Monday in November, in every even numbered year, is established as the day for the election, in each of the States and Territories of the United States, of Representatives and Delegates to the Congress commencing on the 3d day of January next thereafter.'
Idle musing...the Tuesday next after the 1st Monday is very specific, and removes a Tuesday that is the first day of the month, but then the reference to the start of Congress is 3(r)d day of January - even if the 3rd January is a Sunday? They appear to be flexible enough on that to move it on a day or two if the 3rd falls on a weekend. https://www.senate.gov/legislative/DatesofSessionsofCongress.htm
Agree about snowballs and hell though for the sake of one hopeful candidate, even if it is Trump.
No, but that makes it worse really.
Not at all: I'd say the closest was one of the European reps. made a passing comment about America's commitment to defence in case of Russian attack; not so much an ask of Trump directly but a broad reminder of America's obligations. Trump probably took that, ran with it and turned into a Walter Mitty adjacent fantasy of a NATO member begging Big Boy Trump to protect them.
I'm not sure I believe stories about the Russians having something on Trump like a pee video or whatever rumours were circulating, simply because I don't think they need it. It's less trouble just to tell him he's smart, handsome and definitely on the Forbes rich list. He'd love you just for that. So, when the Soviets invited him in 1987, I think they just schmoozed him up, and Putin probably does the same.
The reason why Trump admires so-called strongmen is because he was always thought by his dad, Fred, that you must always be a 'killer', and be always without compassion. He sees that kind of thing personified in Putin, so it's little wonder why Trump would be so amenable to him if Trump gets in power again.
I read an article in the last few days where basically the GOP have a preference for a "Strongman" leader/dictator as some kind of "democratic" to the two other major Strong man leaders (Putin and Xi).
The theory being that the world would be controlled by these 3 "Strongman Dictators" Trump in the US , Putin in Europe and Xi in Asia and that Trump would be the "Democratic Dictator" or something.
It's absolute bollocks of course , but you can see how they'd sell that to the masses as a great way to counterbalance these other "strongmen".
Trumps interest is solely in how it would give him access to unlimited money and he wouldn't have annoying things like oversight to worry about..
1st of November is All Saints Day. Perhaps it was religiously observed back in the day?
Example of Trump being a strongman...
