You’ve already been shown that even renting at 400 an acre makes seven times more profit than buying land
sometimes it’s easier to swallow your pride than make a fool of yourself
Im no troll people on here dont like to hear the truth renting land in todays market is a waste of time. Its like summer grazers buying cattle in spring regardless of price just to havr them one lad outbidding the next pushing prices on.
Im not bitter at all why would i be bitter ivevno debt big dairy farm huge net worth
This is it exactly, it’s a troll account and a quick scan through previous posts will show that as I remember contradictions on different posts around farm size and stock no’s etc.
Depends what part of the country you’re in. Land is crazy money here in Cork and it’s not much use if it’s no nearby. Life’s to short for travelling to land any more than a few miles away.
Me neither as Mahoney said we are probably just tired and cranky.
I honestly don't understand why everyone still engages with that windup merchant
Many an 80 acre farm produced doctors nurses teachers solicitors an air hostess(ex professional ballet dancer) and 3 sons who are farmers
And you'd still be a tool..80 acres reared and educated a lot of people in this country and still does.. if I could swap my little bit for your ranch but I had to live a bitter little life like you, I'd rather be on the street!!
There is plenty being sold at less than 10k/acre. Across the road from me, 65 acres went for 550k. All in grass. Wouldn't be level and would have some flooding on about 4 acres beside the river in winter. Grows great grass and was all in paddocks from the dairy man who had it the last 30 odd years
Better to buy the money used for rent wud take a fair sting out of annual land loan repyaments i know ud have to add a bit allot of land is making 10 to 15k u never c the poor prices highlighted as its not gd for auctionners rep if there selling cheap. They like to talk up the market. All the land i bought never made it to a paper.
doesn’t change your logic that taking extra land is greed.
Whether it’s bought or rented it’s still increasing your farming area.
im able to be a full time farmer by renting extra land. If I only farmed what we owned I wouldn’t be
Man, you are so full of brown stuff ya must have been delighted when the slurry ban lifted. You look down your nose at anyone and everyone here, preach about how great ya are at this, that and the other. Anyone looking for advice is told to rent the place out, while anyone that does rent are told they are greedy.
There isn't a fear you'd be a plumber. If you hadn't been handed whatever you got along with that silver spoon up yer hole, you'd be bolloxing around the place doing SFA
Im still laughing whelan like the dealers fleecing for cull cows and calves
I bought land cus it was cheap i could be milking 3 times the number of cows i have and have a heap of muppets working for me but im content with my lot .Cant understand the logic in renting land above 100 euro acre. All your doing is being a busy fool.I admit at 100 acre it makesense above that firget about it.
Sure the woman could labour on you. Be a great job.
Plumber is what my line of work would be in the big smoke dublin.Id wouldnt bother farming 80 acres id set it to the highest bidder and have a yearly rental auction on the farm so boys could bid like mad.
Inherited 80 fragmented ones here and 20 scrub or forestry acres. I don't think I'll ever be full-time but it's a fantastic security to be lucky enough to own..anyway as long as the boss man is alive it's his as far as I'm concerned.
That is in context to the ‘big dairy man’ with his 3/400 acres, I know and I’m sure everyone else knows some of the best of farmers are operating at 70/80 acre farms.
Only 80 acres? 🤔 That's exactly what I was left. Quit my good job to milk cows on it.
Nothing wrong with renting ground if you get it for a fair price. Better to be renting ground near by than buying land 10 or 15 miles away.
Go way and don’t be a prick.
how is renting land any different to buying it. You could deem yourself greedy in my book cause you wanted more land
Some of us aren’t in the fortunate enough position to own enough land to create a second income on an existing farm will ye.
ive more rented than I own and it will be that way for a while yet while land is at 20k an acre
A comedian would suit him
What would you have done if you were only left 70/80 acres by your parents when you started out? Not bother milking cows because you can’t be renting land? What line of work would you have went into instead?
Greed
Definitely
Quota would have been the restriction
Not if you incorporate
I'm after renting a piece of ground, will have to reseed it and probably fence it..I'm after paying very dear for it, but I intend to look after it well as I have it for a decent length lease..
Hoping to lease out my own bit thats a lot further away to help offset the costs..I'm willing to take a bit less for my own than I'm paying to have a good tenant that will keep it right or even improve it.
Fairplay @DBK1
Like the itv programme you are a rare breed but just goes to show the straight way has paid off for you in the long run
I'm not dairying so just looking at this thread from a far
I have a good shot of re seeding done in the last 10 years, I've changed systems & as a result I've rented some silage ground the last 5 years for various reasons
Local lad here has it & we'd work away on other things as well.
The one stipulation I have is that I soil test every year & the inputs for the land has to match accordingly.
Too may grabbers out there stripping ground with urea/can only & then you are left with hungry costly ground that takes years to get back & they are long gone.
As you did do it right & everybody is happy goin forward
