Yeah I've downloaded a couple of games and it worked for both..
Great piece up on Heritage Auctions at the moment, original box art to Gex. Currently sitting at $7,750!

Come back to me when they have awesome possum.
Is the highest bidder WATA Games by any chance?
You know what, I was thinking the artwork would be the most highly priced items in that videogame auction but check out this insanity:https://comics.ha.com/itm/video-games/playstation/tekken-wata-98-a-sealed-jewel-longbox-early-production-ps1-namco-1995-usa/a/7359-28126.s
Edit - hang on, it gets far FAR worse!

No surprise there as Heritage and WATA have essentially been running a scam to inflate graded game prices. Jim Halperin, the owner of Heritage, has previous form doing this with coins. Halperin was also one of the founders of WATA btw.
Anyone read the recent tweet from an ex SNK developer about how bad it was there in the 90s?
Apparently for metal slug they were crunching 30 hours non stop before getting sleep. They were all exhausted by the end of the day.
The two coders in question were told that as they had put the final touches to the game together they were allowed to sleep in on their Saturday morning and he was send QA to go to the metal slug location test instead.
Saturday morning comes, QA aren't out location testing, the boss goes insane and sends the developer and his mate to the location test when neither has had any sleep in 2 days.
So at the location test the developers friend drops his pen and as he bends down to pick it up he collapses due to sleep exhaustion and faceplants against the metal railing and falls asleep. The poster said he looked like the T-1000 oozing through the railing and everyone in the arcade was having a great time laughing at him.
Edit: found the tweet, it's by one of the snk artists.
So...
More like, Metal Slog?
I'll get my coat...
That's the same guy that's making the new Metal Slug style game Black Finger Jet.
Hopefully the development process is a bit less punishing 😁
I see death crimson 2 has been fan translated. A Dreamcast sequel to what was considered the worst Saturn game. It only got made because the first game was so popular as a kusoge.
And yet still no Segagaga translation...
Must be a nightmare given the level of references, wordplay et al. Suspect the Captain Rainbow fanslation must be facing similar difficulties, given it pretty much goes to town on Nintendo's lore, history and reputation.
Makes what Mato and his lads achieved with the Mother 3 translation all the more impressive.
It just depends on the team making these translations. I've not heard anything about either game in a long time so it could well be that the teams are inactive or disbanded.
I learned long ago not to get excited about fan translations and just be glad when one arrives. There's no way to predict when one will be finished but it's also not fair to expect a team of amateurs doing this out of passion to hit deadlines either.
True, though the Captain Rainbow guys are still going (just updated last week after panic set in the project was shelved) and are hopeful of 2024 release per below. God willing we'll be helping Little Mac lose weight at some stage this year.
Just tracking the updates it looks like an absolute hell of a job.
Lemmings is 33 years old ! Madness
Anyone know of a site for high res sprite images? Someone I know is looking to print out some stickers for a wall.
Retro Games revival in the land it all came from! As covered on NHK News

Mike Dailly of GTA and Lemmings fame is fairly involved with The Spectrum Next, no Lemmings Spectrum Next yet though...........
You can search online for 'sprite sheets' for the game you are looking for, and then resize with 'nearest neighbor' - so yea get all the sprite goodness but large
I must have been living under a rock in the world of synthesizers the last month, as a commercial non-DIY Sega Mega Dive Synth you can buy has released!
It's from the Japanese manufacture Sonicware and it only costs €239:
And what's cool is that Yuzo Koshiro has officially contributed some sound banks from his soundtracks for the system.
I'm still going to plow ahead with the one I'm building, painting the case tomorrow so wish me luck!
Something I didn't realise about the neo geo pocket until recently is that is supports sprite scaling. No games really use it at all but the recent retrocore video on the Densha de go 2 ports shows it off clearly. The neo geo pocket is pumping out a tonne of scaling sprites and it's super smooth. I actually own the game and played it a good bit but it was hard to see on the neo geo pocket screen and I just thought they were really nicely animated. It's a bit crazy the effect isn't used in any other game I know of.
Just watched a video, that's actually really impressive. Just looking at the Gameboy Color version, check out how smooth it is once the train gets a bit of speed going.
For that price you have me half thinking of picking one up. Shipping looks to be free?
aaa
To follow on on this I think I found another sprite scaled NGP game. The version of Pac man can be played either zoomed in or out and when it zooms out it just scales the sprites and maze.
One for star control 2 fans but the PC remake that was made by the original Dev team and has all the 3DO niceties is now free on steam. It was always available to download free but nice to have it on a modern platform for a price you can't turn your nose up at:
Ended up taking the plunge on one of these. 244 delivered with the PSU is worth it for the Yuzo demos alone! Looking forward to giving it a bit of a bash.
Any of you folks know a good site for Japanese Switch imports? Looking to get a copy of DoDonPachi Blissful Death Re:Incarnation but Playasia/Ebay seems to be leaning a bit too far on the expensive side.
Edit: never mind, found a reasonable Japanese seller on Ebay.
You could just go directly to Amazon Japan. I got the Bayonetta 1 cart including shipping for cheaper than the blink and you'll miss it European version on the Nintendo store.
Amazon Japan is indeed excellent and their delivery time is very impressive. I've had a few things arrive almost too fast.
