Team for the Championship.
Darren Brennan
Mikey Butler. Darragh Corcoran. Jordan Molloy
David Blanchfield. Huw Lawlor. Mikey Carey.
Kevin Blanchfield. Conor Heary.
Paddy Deegan. John Donnelly. Tom Phelan.
Adrian Mullen. TJ Reid. Eoin Cody
Change needed in goal for distribution purposes.
Most teams only play 2 inside and Molloy would do a good job as sweeper.
The spine of our defence needs readjusting. If Corcoran could work at 3 then this could release Huw to 6.
Tell the 3 Shamrocks lads in the full forward line to go for a goal every time. Bring out Mullen if we need a 4th half forward.
Paddy Deegan, John Donnelly, David Blanchfield, Mikey Carey and Tom Phelan to pick off the points.
Kevin Blanchfield and Paddy Deegan to punch the holes.
Heary to win the ball and frees.
Nice balance
Number 1 for Kilkenny is to win Leinster. At the present time, no team will beat Limerick. We need to focus on the rest, for now.
Mullen is playing. I'd be horrified to think 13 of today's teams are championships starters. I'd hope 8-9 max.
Bar Mullen, Reid and Deegan that’s more or less Kilkennys championship team for the summer.
I don’t think we will win an all Ireland with Ritchie reid centre back, Wexford ran through the centre as they pleased in the second half last week so hopefully Darragh Corcoran shows something at number 6 tonight.
Would of thought Stephen Donnelly would be given a run based on club form and David Fogarty.
Hopefully kilkenny put in a good performance and find something to build on.
A very tricky assignment awaits kk Saturday night. We have a poor enough record in cork. If cork get a run on us they will murder us. We will want to turn it into a arm wrestle. Theres talk jordon molloy might be out that he picked up a knock. He was one of only a few bright sparks.maybe the might try Corcoran again at 3 and lawlor at 6. Brillant to see mikey back he will be a big addition. Cian kenny was also very good last weekend. John Donnelly was excellent for thomastown so he will bring a bit of vision and better quality of ball. Luke hogan one is a suprise alright but its very clear that we are very lightweight in attack. He definitely isnt to bad and is worth a run. Theres a few others stinking it out consistently and repeatedly get picked . I would prefer to see stephen donnelly but he must be injured.i think harry shine will have to be persistent with and last week will stand to him.
cork will obviously want to get the win in front of their own and a poor enough showing the last day but you would be hoping theres a reaction in our lads after only gettin 7 points from play the last day.
Every team should continue to throw the ball u mean or are u saying only some teams do it?
‘75% of handpasses are fouls’
Love a bit of nonsense being spouted to try and create a narrative.
There is no way on earth they analyses every single handpass at perfect quality to fact-check it.
I don't ever agree with Barry Kelly but I do with this. If it does pass I presume it won't be implemented until next year. Meanwhile every team should just throw the ball. The refs will either ignore or blow BOTH teams.
The big problem at the moment seems to be the lack of forwards we have. Does anyone know if Luke Connellan, Paul Cody, Cathal Beirne, Denis Walsh, Ian Byrne and Eoin Guilfoyle are still on the panel? I would like to know what forwards we are working with this year.
Also I thought we see more of Paul Henabry and Stephen Donelly both good with their clubs last year.
What do people think are the chances of this motion passing? At least it's good to see some attempt being made to change it.
Is Paddy Deegan injured ?
Correct.
There should be a rule that when a poster deems a player not good enough to be on the panel, they must suggest an alternative! Otherwise we won't even have a starting 15!
As I said before leave the snide remarks for after the game. Everyone of them is training hard and deserve their shot.
He’d be on every senior club team in Kilkenny. Best of luck to him
Did not anticipate Luke Hogan being parachuted in there. Can't imagine he's done much with Kilkenny with Loughlins going through the winter.
With Blanchfield in the Walsh Cup and now Hogan there appears to be a plan to have a focal point at 14. I know Hogan used to drift to the corner for the delivery from the OLG half back line a lot but I don't see either himself or Blanch being athletic enough to beat an intercounty full back to that kind of ball. And you can't really go direct anymore as defenders are too cute to let you win that primary LONG straight ball (unless you're TJ).
Hopefully it's part of a larger plan and we get to see it Saturday night but my instinct is... I don't see it. I know we're struggling with forwards.....
Luke Hogan ? He wouldnt make a lot of senior club teams in Kilkenny
M Butler was apparently carrying a leg injury which may explain his lack of form.
Pleased with team announced. But we really do need to address the goalkeeping strategy soonest.
I'm kinda surprised to still see Conor Delaney still on the panel and not walking away, whether he's really hard done by all the time I'm not so sure, we needed legs for Saturday night going down to Cork and management have realised this, Good to see Lawlor, Donnelly back.
I would have given Mikey Butler another 2 weeks of a break as he looked like he needed it with struggling bit last few games, would have liked to seen David Fogarty involved too. Interested to see how Luke Hogan Goes.
Team for Saturday, good to see Carey starting
Group A is a real doosie.
At least it's happening now and in no small part due to Phil Hogan asking to be involved. Apparently he went to the County Board with ideas.
I'd 100% agree with you, made no sense what so ever. I remember some one suggesting that one of the reason's was that they didn't want to fall out with Glanbia, but look at it now and Glanbia have effectively less visibility i.e. there logo not on development squad jerseys, but there investment hasn't decreased! A bit of forward thinking back then and we could be in a far healthier position now.
It's strange that the Terry Clune sponsorship was rejected only a few years ago as it was seen as a bad idea but is now a good idea. Similarly, the ideas and innovation that Mick Fennelly is bringing to the table were shot down in the very recent past.
It would make you wonder.
Junior & Intermediate Draws.
Great, thanks for the update. The online communication has definitely improved. And it was great to see that Terry Clune is sponsoring the academy. By all accounts, Mick Fennelly is progressing in his role. The green shoots are appearing at long last. A bit of patience is required now.
In fairness the night Phil Hogan spoke at the county board meeting he said the first things that will happen is a new sponsor being announced for the development squads/academy before the end of January which has happened, he also said they hoped to have more new sponsors announced before the end February so hopefully that will help too. One of his big things was having a better online presence and I think with the social media posts this year have been a lot better and more professional looking so there is obviously work been done in the background there also. I would have been very critical of the previous board but I think the current board do seem to be working better and going in a better direction, they are by no means perfect but a step up on the previous board. In a lot of ways Hogan's report has made it very easy for them and has given them a clear plan to follow, aligned with Mick Fennelly's role taking over the development squad side of things, that has improved things considerably. There is a county board meeting next week, if any further updates are given I'll post up here.
Hope Galway make a better fist with there centre of excellence, than the last time. Nearly broke there Co board.
That's it, thanks. Obviously the proposed facilities can't appear overnight. Hopefully Phil Hogan will keep the momentum going.
Ye Jeff Neary is some talent alright.
