A responsible owner just wouldn't buy a restricted breed. By definition, buying a restricted breed is irresponsible, a certain kind of arrogance too.
All I can say is, this is very limited and ignorant view of the problem on your side imo.
Not surprised tho, some people will always choose some kind of quick way out of the problem (not that the problem is solved, just pushed away for a while), instead of targeting and proper dealing with it.
Any excuse is welcome I guess.
I have heard it all now.
"kids from toddlers up are almost always partly to blame when bitten by dogs"
Wow.
Quite the opposite. Restrictions are put on breeds for a reason, based on expert advice. You are of course free to argue that the expert advice is wrong, also free to disregard it, but, if you are a responsible person, you will heed and follow the advice, and not own a restrictive breed. The arrogance is in thinking that you know better.

Things like this are why kids get bitten and parents reenforcing bad behaviour isn't helping, now imagine thats a dog of 60-150lbs+ and it was pissed off enough to bite the kid, the parent would be planning a funeral VERY soon after id imagine. Again though **** owners regardless of breed or pet are bad for all involved so if this person didn't let or rather encourage this behaviour and train the child and the dog there'd likely be none of this behaviour you're seeing here. But sure its only Bully Breeds or big intimidating dogs that people seem to think are the problem when its in fact **** owners the VAST majority of the time regardless of their dogs breed, just look at programmes like Its me or the Dog or SouthendDogTrainings socials and you'll see every dog you can think of on those and see why the dogs have the problems they do in alot of cases, in most cases its the owners are the problem.

Heres a family whose son shoots things at their dog and they neglect their other dogs, and let Junie B do as she pleases like sleeping in the bed attacking the husband, as before imagine it was a big dog, these parent would be likely planning a funeral too with how she behaves. The fact she was rehomed to them as a problem dog is a red flag from day one, because unless in very rare cases people don't tend to rehome dogs they care so much about and want as much as they should.

Heres another one of Its me or the Dog, this time a wannabe gangster just like a lot of lads with Bully breeds here and the UK with no clue what they're doing, buying from a **** breeder who only want money. Even the fact he knows his dog behaves like this and isn't muzzling it is an obvious redflag and liability for him so much so, it apparently did bite someone and is in the pound or at least was and he was fined 80k. Presa Canarios like Belgian Mal's are a dog for experienced owners not first time owners with no experience of breeds like them.
"imagine thats a dog of 60-150lbs+"
"imagine it was a big dog"
It wasn't.
I have also called for big dogs to be banned from suburban ownership, as well as the restricted breeds. Both measures reduce the risk to kids.
A rope around their neck, tightened to cut off their air is the only way to get them to release apparently.
The owner or the dog?
Jesus **** christ.
Funny how certain posters are monitoring this thread 24/7 for anything unkind said about these hideous dogs, yet don't pass a single comment when a fellow dog enthusiast says that, well, sure black people are even worse and we're not doing anything about them.
What a ridiculous statement. Theres nothing wrong with a responsible owner owning a restricted breed. I know several who do and theres never been any issues.
I'd say we must be living in the country full of responsible owners so.., aren't we?
Dog shelters full to the neck.
I'm not sure if there are any stats on what percentage of dogs in shelters are on the Restricted breeds list (not to mention there's almost fook all stats when it comes to dogs attacks, or any other stats dogs related). But I would say it's almost zero IMO. I could of course be wrong, in that case I would love somebody more knowledgeable to point out some stats or sources, so I can read it up.
Again I'm going to mention almost zero of enforcement of BASIC rules when it comes to dogs, having one or breeding (when it comes to breeding, no wonder this country is being called a puppy farm capital of Europe), no matter the breed, size, or weight.
So yes, bans will sort this situation no problem, or not?
But love to read posts like yours, especially mentioning arrogance...
Edited.
Education is a key.
Since there's significant population of dogs in this country, maybe forget few prayers at schools and educate some kids how to behave around the pets instead. And call it start.
Yeah, it's the kids fault that they get bitten and maimed by XL bullies, you already said that.
I've never said anything like that.
Cheap move, just as cheap as your idea of ban sorting out the mess around the dogs here. Can't wait to see more..
There’s been some utterly mental stuff said on this thread but using school time and public funding to teach kids how not to get savaged by the local scumbag’s XL bully is top notch.
...
Sorry to disturb your tunnel vision, but that's not what I said.
Well he seems like the sort of dickhead who shouldn't be allowed to own any type of dog. And he should face jail time and a heavy fine.
Sure - but the problem is that someone like that doesn't want to keep Shih Tzus, do they?
So if big dangerous dogs are banned, a guy like that is not going to downsize to a cute little chihuahua or something. And TBH I can't see why anyone needs to keep an XL Bully or anything similar - there are lots of other dogs people can have. We can't all own guns either, but we survive.
Lengthy jail sentence for this irresponsible idiot is the only solution.
Apparently he was her son in law..
But why should a responsible dog owner be prevented from owning a rottweiler, a bully, a staffie etc just because some dickhead is irresponsible with theirs? Bring in laws and regulations around dog ownership and breeding and actually enforce them. And have proper punishments for people that don't comply.
Replace “Rottweiler”, “bully” and “staffie” with “assault rifle”, “AR-15”, and “AK47”, and you’ll see how this approach is deeply flawed.
Actually no. I've said it before, I like dogs, guns and cars. And I think owning all of them should involve licenses, regulations, training and enforcement.
Did he even make any effort to get the dogs off the woman, I know many complain about mother in laws but this is taking it to a new level of getting rid
He should be charged with manslaughter and never allowed keep any animals
There are large breeds that have a “sharp” appearance that belies a typically very gentle temperament, the Siberian Husky comes to mind. Safe as dogs can be with children (but never leave dogs & children unattended) make terrible guard dogs. But certain more anti-social types love to have as trophies large breeds with a known bad reputation. There is certainly a place for the breeding of trainable guard dogs to work in security & protective roles, who are trained to respond to the commands of a responsible trainer/owner, as is the case with police dogs.
People think all kinds of stupid things.
We've tried the regulations. They don’t work. It’s like the problem with Communism - it’s been an absolute, unmitigated disaster every time it’s been tried anywhere in the past, but for some reason its proposers think they can promise that it will work perfectly next time.
Newsflash: it won’t
I've read that once a dog has been trained to bite, eg a police dog, it can never be considered to be completely safe. I don't know how true that is, but it seems plausible.
Are you saying it's strange that I think there should be laws and regulations around guns, cars and dogs? And that they should be enforced? I would have thought that made perfect sense.
Not sure what communism has to do with this conversation.
Maybe a modern twist on Godwin's Law??
XL bullies are grossly overbred for strength and size .Almost all dogs were developed with a real purpose in mind even ones of the restricted list (like Bull Mastiffs) and although most don't serve that purpose anymore they're at least was some sense behind their development, there was no sense behind the development of XL bullies. That is one of the main reasons they should be banned and eventually eradicated, they are a very new breed and their is zero need for them except for people who want to look tough and intimidating.
The XL bully breed is essentially the canine equivalent of a souped up car that boy racers drive around in.
