Obviously I wasn’t reassured. And I know what efficiency is dependent on thank you. I just haven’t needed to worry about it at all in the ID.3 Tour.
ev database says 250 km range in cold weather on highway That’s just not enough That’s at -10 and a speed of 110 km/hr so hardly tearing along
we regularly go to Dublin for hospital appointments. I want to be able to make that journey easily year round.
Average around 15-16kwh/100km since March. Just driving normally, no hypermiling, or Leaf speed etc.
Decent at motorway speed too e.g. in December was 18.2kwh/100km for an hour at 120Kmh, with climate, heated seats, heated steering wheel in auto.
Yes you'd do a 300km round trip on motorway at 120kmh.
We get -10C here once a decade, maybe..
i find EV database stats pretty accurate for both my old Audi Q4 and current MY .
250km at -10C driving at 110kph. Headwind seems to be biggest problem rather than cold weather we get here. So 120kph driving into a headwind of 10kph is same as driving at 130kph, which is 20/110 (18%) less efficient as driving at 110kph.
at 0 deg driving at 120kph on a calm night , my consumption has averaged about 21kwh/100km. That equates to a range of about 360km in the MY LR
Id say you’d be lucky to get 300km driving at 120kph with any sort of headwind on a winters night in a MY RWD.
if you will be dong 300km often , then get a LR for the extra 60-70km range. It will cost you though
Looks like in Europe we can all expect Adaptive headlight functionality through software update soon enough .

Lads just for a real life comparison that's important to me, is anyone driving a model Y from Dublin to Clare (Lahinch / Liscannor)? Just trying to figure out likelihood of making that trip without stopping so if anyone's doing it, it would be cool to know...
No but we get rain and wind which has a similar effect.
that’s very good for that size of car. We’d get about same on ID.3 which is a bit lighter.
Really don’t want to change into a car with higher consumption. Electricity bills are high here as it is! And as I said the EV in the house does a fair amount of mileage.
Thanks. Yes I think it’s too fine a margin so it’s ruled out. Not pushed on spending the extra for LR. And yeah I know we could charge just really don’t want to on that journey with children etc.
anyone looking for decent range the ID.3 with 77 kWh battery really is a great car. We could just do with a tiny bit more space as it’s become the main car of course. I’d happily drive to Dublin - out to swords back in and home with plenty to spare. Living in the south east.
We rented an Id3 last summer in the UK for the week and was surprised my teenage son didnt complain about space sitting behind me even though he is prone to cramps now as he is at the apex of his growth spurt. The only downside to the 77 kwh is you sacrifice one back seat and the price is now higher/comparable to a RWD MY
Yeah it’s decently roomy in the back but we could do with a bigger boot and ability to carry roof boxes or bikes on the back. Or tow the camping trailer. We save an old Q5 as well which can do all that so it’s not the end of the world to keep the ID.3.
Shows how efficient the Model Y is that it can do the same efficiency as the ID and the with 60 kWh that the ID does with 77 kWh, it might actually be a cheaper car to run.
Isnt the Y heavier as well?
I’d say so yeah.
Funnily enough the curb weight of an ID.3 tour is 25kg more than an RWD Model Y.
😳 did not know that!
Im I reading them wrong..ID3 tour 1860 kg vs MY 1909 kgs
I got it from ev-specifications. Could be different depending on spec https://www.evspecifications.com/en/comparison/9da167f8
Wow, almost 2 tonnes!
Question for anyone who may have been in the same boat. Test drove the MY today in Cork and was happy to put down the deposit as they are currently 0% finance on custom and inventory orders.
Dealer told me that this 0% finance offer only applies until march 31st. I said that's perfect I'll pay the deposit now so to get the ball rolling. He then said if I choose to do a custom order and it's not delivered to me by March 31st then the 0% finance offer would be retracted and it would be 6.9% finance. I wanted the custom order as there's about a €32 difference in monthly payments and over 4 years this adds up to over €1500. Inventory model is more expensive than custom model as it has a tow hitch.
Anyone else found themselves in a similar scenario? Don't know what to do. I can guarantee the 0% finance by just buying the inventory model however I feel like I'm getting screwed for €1500 extra that I don't really need to pay I guess. Think I'm just going to bite the bullet but still slightly annoying as it doesn't seem like there's any point in offering 0% finance on custom orders if they're not going to guarantee that your order is delivered while the 0% finance is still being offered.
Make the custom order.
See if it comes in time.
If it’s looking like it won’t closer the time, take an inventory order and cancel existing.
order under a different email too so they can’t link the test drive with the order therefore losing your distance selling rights for the €250 deposit.
I have two questions for Model Y owners:
Thanks!
Despite the reports of comfort suspensions in 2023 MYs, mine feels really hard on sh&ty cork roads so the interior is progressively getting rattlier (if such word exists). Never experienced same level of interior noise on my previous VW cars (2x golf, one with sport suspension, a polo and and ID.3) although they had thicker tyres (16-18 inch with min 50 sidewalls). Can’t comment on the 2nd point as I only used superchargers in Ireland and in France I used a local Lidl charge found on plugshare.
I have navigated to the Ionity charger at Kill from the car screen. It pre-conditioned the battery on the way to it aswell. Arrived with 10% battery and charge rate was 148Kw when plugged in.
I find the suspension a bit on the hard side, but it's not too bad.
Suspension has been fine for me but I came from a Mini, a lot will depend on what car your coming from
As one can get a brand new Tesla Y basic model for 41,800 Euro, what would be an acceptable price for a 2 year old basic spec one?
It’s also 0% new from Tesla so maybe would need to be low 30’s?
Possibly lower even
I wonder what are Tesla offering owners of the 2022 model Y rear wheel drive who are looking for a 2024 model Y.
1st RWD My were delivered in March 2023. Not even a year ago.
