JetBlue to launch daily Dublin-Bos and JFK for 2024, no dates yet.
It’s around 33.4 million. If you click into the post from the daa it shows transit and other passenger numbers separately.
TUI tried Mexico and Jamaica and failed miserably with Jamaica and only can manage 1 a week to Cancun now. It has been tried, the Caribbean just isn’t an Irish getaway destination like the Canaries or Portugal is.
I get your point, having flown through small U.K. airports and seen multiple daily flights to the Caribbean it always struck me as strange that if they can manage it why can’t Irish people look at it.
Do you also consider the demographic of the UK in relation to that part of the world? Not the same here.
Trinidad isn't a tourist destination, so flying from the UK the plane is split 50/50 in terms of diaspora and 20th generation English. Not just cattle but business too. The Barbados flights are more like 90% white English. There are probably as many West Indians on your average flight to Portugal leaving London.
But again, I take your point. The white English people that go to Barbados are the type of people who have been going there years. It is as mature a travel destination and route as you will find anywhere.
Anyone like to hazard a guess if there will be more Poland routes this year? Planning a trip there this summer and getting to Warsaw is proving expensive as the Aer Lingus to Chopin airport doesn't exist anymore so Ryanair to Modlin is the only option.
Cattle?
Cattle class = economy class. Semi common term for it.
Aer Lingus only fly to Warsaw during the winter. Ryanair have changed a few routes to Chopin from Modlin but they haven't done much with Dublin routes, not sure if it's because they're waiting to see how many aircraft they will have or if they are still not getting on with the DAA. They usually announce their Dublin summer schedule late though
Aer Lingus to Warsaw isn’t even just a winter route…they for the last couple of years have operated a handful of flights over the Christmas period…
Yes we've all heard 'cattle class' (as in treated like cattle) but describing those who fly economy as cattle is a bit much imho
Its on the daa website now. 32,000,000 plus 1.5 m transit passengers. Its actually quite poor but when the national airline is very Conservative, what can you expect. As per the chicken and egg on new routes above comment. The other issue with IAG is, they don't care about passenger convenience, only profit maximisation. Hence many connections to places, Dublin could viably serve, but doesn't... there should have been Cork to dublin route direct flights as part of the iag takeover agreement
It would have been far more convenient than 3 hours in a bus and dealing with a large v tiny airport...
Cattle class was/is available on ferries too.Not otp description if flying in economy and being restrained in a very small seat elbow to elbow and fed container food
Up until the point of embarkation, can you think of a more apt description of how all passengers, regardless of ticket, are treated?
For you, I will henceforth cease to use cattle and refer to economy as steerage.
Is the National Airline not Ryanair being Irish owned, HQ'd and the largest operator by many multiples than EI? Ryanair are not very conservative I would say.
EI is just one small cog in the IAG machine and any expansion will be in line with that group's overall market share.
Emirates, Ryanair, HiSky, Vueling, Hainan and others submitted reports to FCC about the cap. Hainan said they want to do 4 weekly but can't get the slots for it. This cap needs to go
I thought the Vueling one in particular was interesting. They must be planning a number of new routes out of DUB (after the cap is removed). Currently only Paris and Barcelona.
Cap is seriously damaging Dublin now.
More frequencies to BCN might be first on the cards.
VY became my preferred option to BCN, when timing made sense. Seating is a little uncomfortable but the service onboard beats EI - they actually have food to buy, which is cheaper and better; and the staff seem as good - and you still get Avios.
Emirates? I wonder are they concerned about the cap cutting off their second daily rotation, or are they potentially looking for a third?
I understand that timings and competition from QR/EY make this unlikely, but who knows.
This "green" shite seems to have no rhyme or reason to it. It should start with dialling up public transport investments to 11 with more rail services etc and get people out of their cars. We can't all seriously live the American dream in a country this small - mostly in the city I mean. For now, tourism and air transport remain quite vital to our economy I'd imagine. Why not take all the growth we can get and instead look at a more genuine approach to it.
What's next - will they now take away overfly rights to cut local emissions? (joke)
Emirates have been looking to add a third daily flight for a long time, in the mornings .
Emirates have the slots for 2 daily this summer as usual, but probably interested in a third daily. There was something circulating about Qatar doing 3 daily this summer and Etihad announced recently all European routes are going 2 daily. Also considering Qatar have been flying the 350 on the second daily rotation to Dublin with both flights switching to the 787-9 for the summer, plus Etihad operating the A35X and 777 makes it look like loads are really good. emirates wants to be on top
Vueling probably looking at Malaga Palma or Alicante, places like that, Barcelona is 10 weekly this summer, even during the winter Orly and BCN seem to be on the 321 quite often
Vueling probably just making another submission as requested by sister airline EI.
or maybe they want to do Gatwick.
Vueling's Orly base is A321s only, AFAIK.
I would think AGP would be a no brainer for them. EI and FR have a nice Duopoly going on there.
Looking at today's arrivals and departures for AGP, other than LGW and FCO, Vueling's presence is confined to internal Spanish routes. Therefore I doubt they are hungering to open a route to DUB, unless they were planning a Malaga base focused on connections outside Spain.
Vueling operate direct flights to Cardiff and Amsterdam from AGP, and there could be others they operate to from there for summer that I’m not aware of also. So it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if they did launch a summer seasonal route to DUB from AGP.
Anyone know if Cathay will come back any time soon? The flights to HK use to be quite full. If not Cathay then Japan Airlines, Air China, Eva Air or an airline like that?
Can’t see Cathay returning. I believe they are in a restructuring phase after Covid. I’m going out on a limb here and not in the know, but I’m going to hazard a guess at SQ(Singapore) when the cap is eventually lifted by Fingal council. Maybe to start at a 3/4 day service and to increase over time. You heard it here first if it happens.
Cathay have a long road to recovery. They destroyed morale with crews during covid + post and are massively short pilots resulting in cancellations continually as existing crews are maxed out.
Whatever non-transferring traffic to HKG there was is basically gone too. Dictatorships need to be glamorous (UAE) for people to go there on holidays.
