He died earlier from a heart attack, very curious guy whatever you think of him. If he didn’t kill Sophie Toscan du Plantier he certainly didn’t help himself by his attention seeking behaviour.
Interested in comments around how a person would appear to others at approx 9am the following morning, having tracked this route at approx 1am in the morning over 50 minutes or so , with a likely reasonable amount of drink on them, brutally murdered someone, then trekked back home again in a similar time frame, possibly even stopping off at a bridge in a different direction to “clean up”.
Indeed and I dont remember any comments from the Guards who took note of Bailey at the scene the next day saying that he looked the worse for wear / like he hadnt slept.
But he had been at a party the night before, slept at a friends, then had the business with turkeys and tree. Then pub at 9m. Home 1ish. Before setting off about 3am or so for a walk of a December night. At least 8kms and a violent murder.
He'd sounds about right tbh
I was at a wedding in the midlands, I was on the rent-an- uncle/aunt table. Chatting to a couple, as you do, on the groom's side, other rent -a relative.
Usual small talk, weather, venue, food, where you from?
"I'm from so and so, yourself"?
"West Cork, Goleen"
"Oh, near where that French lady was killed?" (This was just before the French trial and I had been following it.)
" Yesl" followed straight away with " Do you think he did it? I think he did, But my husband says he didn't" ( )
The odd thing was they didn't know a lot about it. The husband said she only came over the day before, Sun.
Great wedding.
He used Bailey to get his hands on the file so he could write a book.
He also claims the murderer beat her with various concrete products 50 times because of a bottle of wine.
Nick Foster thought he had a breakthrough with a watch because of the initials... thought it was connected to Sophie. Turns out initials were the watchmakers. Just a click bait generator at this stage.
I’m "She still seems to be maintaining now that she saw the same man on all three occasions."
But that same man wasn't Bailey, now was it?
"But the fact is, Bailey was out and about on the same night in the dark and not much further away from Sophies laneway in the other direction."
That may be true, if you think the Prairie cottage to the studio is " out and about" , and Sophie's house, (not laneway) is still 4 km away.
"Says he went down to the studio in the dark and returned to the house at 11 am."
11 am? Did he pop back to the murder scene in the meantime to scatter some DNA around?
That gets even more disturbing - I’m fine with well researched and balanced journalism - even if I don’t agree with their perspective but that’s just a work of fiction -bad fiction - I’ve seen better written fiction here on this thread.
Whilst a lot of Irish journalists rightly don’t like Bailey, there’s very few if any credible and respected ones, who’ll write “I’m sure he did it”
I was reading an interview with Tom Maguire, retired (I think) head of Radio RTÉ (title not quite exact but close enough) - he mentioned he interviewed Bailey in the weeks after it was known he was a suspect - he asked him his first question “Did you kill Sophie?” - he said bailey said nothing for about 9 seconds before responding no. That seem to throw Tom in fairness and he was taken aback by the long pause -but even then, Tom states we may never know what happened to Sophie
https://www.westmeathexaminer.ie/2024/01/26/the-hesitation-always-stayed-with-me-says-local-ian-bailey-interviewer/
Another respected journalist also retired
Paddy Clancy - interviewed Bailey for just under an hour - he says it best:
“From when I walked out of there that day to now I have never changed my mind in that I couldn’t say for sure if I believe he killed the filmmaker.”
These guys know the score in terms of the case-,like many here on the thread they know better that to state something as fact when far from the truth it could be.
😀😀😀
I had to remind myself what post you were replying to as your reply is just so random- I was like wtf? 🤪 - once I saw what it was I burst out laughing
Great story.
Wow, that's some rubbish.
Hard to see how the Gardai will prove Bailey killed Sophie. They lacked the physical evidence to do so while he was alive. Puzzled as to how a gate simply goes missing. While Bailey said he committed the murder once he recants such confessions are unreliable. Marie Farrell has proven to be an unreliable witness. I don't think the Gardai helped themselves in how they homed in on Bailey without any credible eye witness or physical evidence. Whilst Bailey had a history of violence towards his partner, and whilst this may have suited a Garda narrative to paint him as the only credible culprit in Sophie's murder, it doesn't place him at the scene or give them any physical evidence to say that he killed her.
As the Gardai have failed to come up with any credible evidence or eye witnesses I have to believe Bailey is innocent until such time as they do. The real tragedy of this is that her family are left waiting for justice. If we run with the possibility of a Garda/a person of power being responsible is it feasible to suggest ranks were closed to protect him?
Personally I couldn’t agree “on a closing ranks because a guard/person of power did it. “
I’d argue it’s probably one of the most unlikely of scenarios - you would need a number of senior Gardai not only just in 1997 but also in 2024 to continue that cover up - on the basis that many things are possible, I’d call it just short of impossible to carry out such a cover up for so long by so many for this particular case
There was alot of well known people at the wedding of Richard Flynn's daughter and at the house, scene of the crime, the night Father Molloy was killed. No one has ever been convicted.
Returning tp Ian Bailey there is an exhaustive and excellent thread on Reddit which plausible debunks the possibility that Bailey did kill her using 21 separate points.
Whilst Bailey had a history of violence towards his partner, and whilst this may have suited a Garda narrative to paint him as the only credible culprit in Sophie's murder, it doesn't place him at the scene or give them any physical evidence to say that he killed her.
Just on Bailey's physical assaults on Jules, am I correct in understanding that Jules confirmed these followed from his drinking plenty of whiskey (and I'm not using it as an excuse).
Am I also correct in understanding that he wasn't drinking whiskey on the night of the murder? I know he left the pub with a pint of Guinness.
There’s plenty of water up Dunmanus way, a river entering the bay not far from Jules’ cottage, much less of a diversion than down to Kealfadda
Do you still have the link?
If you get a chance can you summarise a couple of the points (especially if they havent been mentioned here). Thx.
I simply don't know. As you say though it's not a defence against a charge of domestic violence. Bailey certainly seems to have been a strange fish in addition to being violent.
Check your inbox. 😊
Only included it. To humour those still hung up on it being a valid piece of evidence 😀
If you sufficiently interfered with the crime scene and steered the investigation towards a scapegoat... you dont even have to ensure Bailey is jailed.
Just the investigation is on the wrong track from the get go. I dont think you would still have to be around in 2024. Numbers involved very small, first few hours crucial.
Little things like oh refusing / delaying access to forensics team from Dublin... refusing state pathologist request to move the body.
Not saying Im convinced it was such a cover up but Im not sure that level of control is needed.
But if his partner of thirty years reckoned it was whiskey that tended to bring out the violent streak and he wasn't drinking whiskey that night then it reduces the likelihood of the (already weak) motive as touted by AGS
"But that same man wasn`t Bailey, now was it"
The first two sightings were undoubtedly of Bailey.
"4 km"
Just a little bit further than Kealfada Bridge then.
"if you think the Prairie cottage to the studio is "out and about""
Let`s say the fella out and about to the north of Sophies laneway and the one to the south of Sophie`s laneway were two different men. What do we know about them? Well the fella down at Kealfada was walking along from God knows where to God knows where, minding his own business. There was no indication that he was just after bludgeoning someone to death and we don`t even know whether or not he had any previous in the beating up women department. The fella out and about to the north of Sophie`s laneway, well he had a history of brutality against his female partner, he was a well known night time walker with a big stick, he knew the victim, the day after the murder he had a fresh cut on his forehead that nobody had ever seen before and a whole collection of dodgy looking scratches on his hands. Later he told a whole bunch of people he was the killer. Which of them was more likely to have committed the murder?
"11 am"
According to the DPP quoting Sgt Hogans report quoting Bailey. Interesting one that isn`t it? How long would it have taken him to get back to the Prairie cross country? Might have been time to get out of there when Alfie and Shirley were stirring. Haven`t you been saying it all went down after breakfast?
Interesting article about Daniel TDP's next wife Melita.
Grew up in Le Harve to Yugoslavian immigrants.
Lots of violence in home, father murdered her mother when she was 7.
If you ask the question "Cui Bono"...
Maloney said the same thing
That Bailey picked up the bottle of wine
What a chancer that guy is. Laughable stuff. Pure fiction.
Dunno it might explain it
Maloney said he grabbed the wine bottle and she hit him with the axe
Presume that was a Garda theory
Also Bailey allegedly referred to a "champagne clue" which there doesn't seem to be any information about
And what happened to the taxi man?
Lol.
The Taxi was just a ruse.
She said he was too messy to have done it.
Concede that a spouse has to be looked at (and the fact that they were both sleeping with others adds technical credibility) but this is a man who elsewhere is described as from an 'old', 'influential' French family or similar words. It's suggested he called in favours to influence the Paris trial occurring and/or due to 'pull' didn't present to the Gardai to be interviewed 'for the file.' Logically he discretely arranges his hitman to do the hit in France and not West Cork.
