on your last point I'd say if you're waiting for your surgeon to turn up and operate on a tumour in your colon you'd prefer if they weren't waiting on Dublin Bus!
There was a bathroom downstairs on the plans. Between the bike shed and stairs
They are a lovely couple and obviously adore their child who they had later in life, I think that's part of reason why family and been near them means everything to them.
Top surgeon going by her Mater bio!!!!
700 k to do up a relatively small semi D in a housing estate…
She’s a consultant, pocket change
I totally got why they wanted to stay in the house. stuff like childminding, babysitting etc is sorted. They know all the neighbours, she knows her commute*.
I didn't like the way the house stuck out in front of the other houses, no idea how people get PP for that. They'll all start doing it now.
I liked the garden and the gym solution. They're not gardeners, so it suits them. I grew up for a while on an estate like that and as a child and teenager, you spend a lot of time playing on the green, or in other people's gardens. He'll probably spend a lot of time with his cousins next door playing there which solves another issue as well.
They scaled back on the kitchen from the original plans as well as on the counter top. It was supposed to be granite. I loved the kitchen/garden in the show house, but the bench thing looked uncomfortable.
Overall I liked a lot of it, but I don't think it solved their issues. There's no ensuite for the granny flat area, and the downstairs toilet doesn't look like the minimum size to be converted to a disabled one.
We didn't get a proper walkthrough at the end I fell, but I'll watch it back later.
Thought he was soft at times, especially when he wasn't insistent on the motorbike fitting in his garage, He'll change his tune if it's nicked.
They seemed happy with it, they are obviously happy with his work. There was a bit of a 'Dear Leader' worshiping vibes for Dermot, the bit at the end where the kid runs up and says to Dermot that he loves the house was so planted and scripted it was funny.
Seem to be a nice couple (her sister is a bit of a ride IMO), hope they are happy in it.
*Off topic, but people driving from Santry-Mater (as an example) is the reason why traffic in Dublin is so bad. Could go on a rant but I won't.
Ah surely there has to be a downstairs bathroom, was it not in plans with the utility room, storage shed etc.
Hopefully they just didn't show it yo us, otherwise its utter madness.
Retention! That's the name of the game.
Build it and ask for forgivness>
Ya, I found it a bit strange making such a big deal about the mother and not putting in a downstairs toilet.
How to blow 700k on a house.
Utter madness.
I don't think there was a bathroom downstairs which kind of goes against the future proofing aspect that was so important.
Ah give over, of course the child lives there!
Was the bathroom upstairs on downstairs?
I actually missed the start just watched it there on plus one.
Actually welling up there when she was saying why she wouldn't move🥲.
Just hope her sister never moves!
Can have built in island extractors that suck from below instead of above, or also ones where the extractor rises up when you're cooking, and sinks back down into the island when you're not.
ince inside but a bit lacking in charicter and cosyness.
front extention is not to my taste at all. i dont understand why the bike shed is so small compared to the size of the bit sticking out.
28k over isnt too bad considering .
that garden must be 20k judging by last weeks costing for a few trees.
that garden gym must be 40k minium. ceder cladding, rubber roof with lantern, huge window/ door. etc
T'was fairly clear from the word go that 400k wasn't really the budget, but rather an uneducated figure they had in mind. As soon as he pointed out it would be a lot more for what they wanted, they were grand with it. As they said, the 'wishlist' was much more important than that figure.
Ridiculous.
I can't see really where all that money went.
I guess the young fella won't be spending too much time playing in the back garden. And he's several years away from getting use out of the gym.
Bike shed in the front won't get his bike in with what's already there.
I like the interior, but not the island. Looks very cold and clinical.
Was there any en-suite bathrooms ? Only got a glimpse of the main bathroom changed to a wet room.
I thought that was a lovely finished house.
Three nice good sized bedrooms with plenty of storage. Kitchen was such an improvement. Garden room/gym a great idea for growing boy. They'll need to break down a fence portion into the sisters though.
The front of the house wouldn't bother me. Plus a very handy bike store.
I wish them well.
Like an operating gown.
What is the point of a budget when you’re gonna go 228k above!
Wonder what the landscaping cost? Looked very expensive. Not the most child friendly back garden. Does the son even live there? She looked a bit surprised to see him when he ran in for the hug near the end.
You would wonder how planning is granted to buildings that change the aesthetics of an area so much. On the back no problem, but not on the front.
The fact there's a huge green right out the front was a big part of their thinking on that I think
Likely €700k by the time the garden and gym is included, is that a record spend for Room to Improve?
Nice bag garden for a teenage lad...!!!! Poor fella wouldn't want to be kicking a ball
Ugh a bit cringe at the end, tearful praise of Dermot as Dermot laughs his way to the bank! The builder should have got some praise, he actually built it!!
But they got the house of their dreams and they're a nice family.
