Has anyone signed up for The National Genotyping Programme with ICBF?
I'm in the SCEP scheme and I will be genotyping anyway under that. I see there is a FAQ document on ICBF.

I have no calves yet this year but have ordered 3 button tags to cover ones left over from last year, would it be advisable to let icbf know this to try and avoid any issues?
No it has to be done from tag supplier to icbf.
Check your bank account for icbf debit of €4 for each genomic tag ordered, they're fairly quick off the mark with that
Ye. I ordered tags before Christmas and the 4 euro per tag came out soon enough after. Most of the calves ive tagged so far this year have lost at least one tag. Can't order replacement tags as they're not registered on line
Are you saying that the tags are falling off calves a few weeks old??
Yes. Have at least 4 have lost at least one of their 3 tags
Going to post a batch of samples by registered post tomorrow. Another cost on top of everything else
I sent three batches so far last Wednesday week and last Friday week and Monday just gone
first 2 batches have been send to dafm which means I’ll get cards early this week
less than the 12 days they said it would
I got caught out early on in the first year of the scheme, contacted by Enfer that sample would held at post office if insufficient postage paid, I haven't made that mistake since.
On the envelope I got from Cormac Tagging, it didn't say to write my name or any other of my details on the envelope. I was surprised at this, as you have to write the Herd Number on the BVD envelope (for Enfer Labs)
Same with these
Appalling
So Mullinahone are still selling the crappy tags. They were some disaster back when we were using them. Since changing to Cormack don't think we have lost one of their tags.
I presume they are working off the number on the bottle to identify the animal and the owner.
I havent had a problem with tag losses until this spring. Think the 3 tags is too much in the little ears
Is the new type tagger at fault
could be the operator ....I'm putting the electronic and genotype tag in 1 ear and bvd in the other. Only 20 of the supplementary tags left. Bvd tags staying in fine
I wonder how do they sort all the vials in the lab, can a machine auto read the numbers as I don't think there's any barcode on them?
They dont record the sample coming in like enfer do. So samples are coming in probably on top of the initial ones.
Probably have a QR stamp on them
First calf of the year was born in January 1st , still not registered....
25 calves born between 15-19 Jan up on Agri net this morning
Actually all calves now born up to the 21 registered
Yes thats because you are not with Mullinahone.
There's a qr stamp on the top of them
I haven't opened mine yet, hopefully they'll hold on till late Feb at the soonest for calving.
What I will miss are the card registrations, I even though I registered online agfood, they were handy for scribbling up as soon as they were born, for entry later. They fitted nicely into and old vhs box.
Sometimes you get a sticker with the tag numbers on it that are in the box. This comes with the main order of tags handy to stick in a hard back copy and fill in the cow/calf/ birth details
I'll get index cards, I saw similar size blank ones in Mr price. The info I scribble in is cow presentation beforehand, calving ease , calf size , vigour, time of day, or anything I think is relevant. I need a bit of space for that lot, handy for filling scep too
€9.20 for registered post for 11 samples. €2.40 is normal postage cost plus my time to go to post office
The national N stamps, are worth €1.40 since 1 Feb 24, so I'll have to just add a 15c stamp to 2 N stamps. Otherwise the post office say they won't deliver the animal specimens, as they did to me in the past.
It's €2.95 for < or = to 100 grams, packed flat.
It seems to be a mess of a scheme. I know there is new legislation coming down the tracks on how old calves have to be before moving off farm but I can foresee serious delays with the scheme when the bulk of calving starts in Feb/March.
