This is conveniently ignoring that Haley has been going after Trump's own mental capacity in the last week or so because the nonsense he's spouting is making even less sense than it did previously did. In his case they're not random ten seconds of out of context video in hour long speeches.
Also it says a lot that supposedly on the fence posters are never willing to comment on the fact he's raped somebody. Instead it's almost a celebration of him having supporters that want to finance the rapist.
Trying to prove you're mentally fit by mistaking who the white house doctor is now and hasn't been for 5 years
But thats the genius of it. The GOP have very little to hit Biden with so they go with souped up claims about the border.
Then Biden comes out with a bi-partisan bill agreed and promising very clear and serious action on the border.
If it goes through he looks strong on the border. If they block it then why don't the GOP care about the border? And why are they blocking their own bill?
Block or don't block, it is win win for Biden.
And as a side issue, it is yet again an example of Biden getting things done even in the face of the obstructionist GOP. He got a bi-partisan bill agreed on the issue they were trying to hang him with, that is genuinely impressive.
And it is something the rapist could never do.
Larry Donnelly is an American citizen who currently works as a law lecturer in NUIG and is a guest on the Pat Kenny radio show just about every week where he is invariably asked to speak about the current American political situation.
But he says himself that it's not a particularly great situation to have two men around the 80 years old mark who are vying for the top political job in the US, and I think most would basically agree with that.
For myself, if it must be that choice, then I'd opt for the one who isn't a vengeful manchild with no real principles other than self-aggrandisation and who isn't under several federal indictments. It's not that those things are just red flags, but time was that you wouldn't even get out of the starting gate with them over you.
Haley still raising decent funds! All thanks to Trump, he will be loving that.
Help yourself with the bookies, you will win €2 for every € you bet
I am stating it as factual. MAGA will support him even if they found he was colluding with Putin to take over the US, Dems can't believe anyone could support him. Independents will have an opinion about him one way or the other
Quite. It's a masterstroke of manoeuvring the GOP into this scenario, all the more given Biden is supposedly doo-lally and in cognitive decline. Though I suppose if this turns out a success the contrarians will claim someone else came up with the idea and just trollied Biden out to lay claim.
You're conflating the terms 'factual' and 'speculation'
The "facts" are that MAGA amount to about 20% of the overall electorate at best. Very useful in a GOP primary, not so much in the General Election.
Trump is losing to Biden with Independents by a double digit margin already and Haley beat him by 2:1 in NH with Independents.
40% of Haley voters have said that they will vote for Biden before they'll vote for Trump and those are registered Republicans.
It doesn't matter how endlessly loyal the MAGA faithful are, he can't win without Independents, that is a Fact.
Trumps support is only going to get worse among moderate and Independent voters so his pathway to the Presidency is very very difficult if not impossible.
Almost feels like accountability is finally catching up to 45...
It's about goddamn time!
PS - Spotted in NYC...
Thanks, I was right this Donnelly guy is a nobody with some interest in US politics but no influence. A lecturer at some minor league Uni in Ireland matters to us politics as much as I do.
You could say that about almost everyone who does comment on the topic, but I agree with him when he says that neither choice is great, but Biden is considerably less not-great than Trump is.
I think Biden has been pretty good all things considered. I was expecting nothing but boring government but he's been a good president. It's not ideal that there's two men over 75 who are going to be the choice for president two elections in a row, particularly when one is an actual fascist, but America's a one party state with two parties. It is what it is.
Yes.
Donnelly is married to RTE newsreader Eileen Whelan, but that's not really relevant.
This constant canard that Biden is old and that lots of people would prefer someone younger is beyond tiresome.
Sure, everybody agrees but he's the candidate and orders of magnitude better than choosing the almost as old, Criminal fraud and Rapist that the GOP have put forward.
The reverse vampires too?
Donnelly is American, born in Boston, lived there for most of his life.
He posts on the Journal.ie , a sister company of Boards.ie
Ah that explains alot about Rte's bias.
I'm biased against rapists. Find it hard to respect them really.
Love it!
But you’re still not a Trump supporter, right???
They'll double down on false hopes, like Biden's shockingly low poll numbers, which if I'm thinking about it correctly is going to be mainly a reflection on him not being Dark Brandon enough for his base (eg. the numbers go up for example when he actually hits back at the GOP, like listing which of them took out forgiven PPP loans), and the situation in Israel that nobody is really delighted with. But that's a false hope for the GOP I feel because unlike the right, who has fallen down the Roy Cohn inspired pigeonhole of 'first, admit no fault,' the Democratic base actually believes in the bedrock principles of democracy, which include expressing criticism of your leaders, they are more likely to express their disapproval but I suspect they will still be voting in November, given the state of 2 party elections. This will then continue to melt the brains of MAGA who will go on a 2nd insurrection spree.
I guess it depends on what you mean by a supporter.
Do I think he is the devil incarnate, a nazi, a dictator, an insurgent, likely to cause WW3, like so many posters do, no I don't. Do I think he is a good man, no I don't, but not many politicians are.
Politicians are generally not good people, the worst types of people are attracted to the role. There is a small subset of folks who have good intentions, but to make it to the very top, you have to play the game. These people slowly turn corrupt over time.
"All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible”. - Frank Herbert
Is Trump a narcissist, yes, but then again most Presidents were.
Do I think he should be running for President in November, no I don't.
I dont think he is fit for the office, but neither is Biden, they are both too old, in physical and cognitive decline, and compromised.
Perhaps I am the devils advocate, I dont think Trump is all bad, 75m people did vote for him.
The view that all of these 75m people are poorly educated, or racist, or have mental illnesses is a pretty disengenous and ignorant view.
Douglas Adams once wrote of a planet on which humans are ruled by lizard overlords. There’s a paradox: the planet is a democracy, the humans hate and outnumber the lizards and yet the lizards always get elected. It turns out the humans vote for the lizards for a simple reason: “If they didn’t ... the wrong lizard might get in.”
Why do we end up with so many people in power who aren’t fit to run a corner shop ?
Never discount the effect of the October Surprise. Many an election cycle has been changed by them. An election cycle you otherwise feel you know where its heading is suddenly completely upended and thrown into uncertainty.
Keep dreaming
Nowhere once did you mention his proclivity for rape and sexual assault. "Perhaps I am the devils advocate, I dont think Trump is all that bad, 75m people did vote for him." LOL
You think the guy convicted of rape and fraud and all the other lovely stuff is a “good man”?
I think you can see why we call bullshit on what you say.
Do you still hold the same view of Jean Carroll that you expressed last year? Personally I'd say she deserves all the compensation she can get. You're being weirdly silent on it since it's the real big news on Trump this week.
If your starting position is that all politicians are scum or psychopaths, it's then easy to hand wave away Trumps patently egregious behaviour as simply part of the pattern - thus the rest of us are histrionic. I suspected it was thus than open support but it amounts to the same thing; Trump ain't so bad (cos the rest of them are as bad)
As to the "people voted for him" angle, well people vote for stupid things all the time..world would be a much nicer place if people didn't.
Politicians are generally not good people,
Few will argue with you on that, I won't.
But politicians are generally not Rapists with multiple judgements against them for ongoing and repeated Fraud.
They are also not generally under indictment for treason/sedition/insurrection either.
This ongoing equivocation and attempts at both-sidesing is just ridiculous at this stage.
Biden has many failings, every single one of which pale into utter insignificance when compared to the catalog of horrors that is Donald Trump.
Some things are automatically and permanently disqualifying and Rape is one of those things.
ANY attempt at suggesting that Trump has some redeeming qualities or that he " isn't all bad" can and should be utterly rejected because the man is far far beyond any redemption.
No I don't, read it again.
