It seems to be the case that you only have to pay damages like these if they're small amounts and you haven't got the resources to appeal the case or otherwise delay things. He might even say, 'fk it' and keep defaming her if he can be sure of avoiding a criminal penalty for contempt of court.

According to one of the most litigious men alive, the legal system is out of control.
Two things going on there. One is that Trump cannot handle losing something where he has a strong desire to win. Everyone likes to win, but some people can lose better than others, and Trump has got to be one of the worst losers ever to enter public life. It's almost a reflex response. He loses, so it must be crooked.
But he also has to keep that pretence up for his base. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't take a back step.
To be a loser is the cardinal sin of Trump's world, but even worse is to be seen as a weak loser. If he's going to lose, he wants to lose as strongly as possible. And that means (in his mind) calling the loss crooked and bullshIt etc. Not very nuanced or varied, but nothing about Trump really is.
He'll never stop will he? He can't accept that there are consequences to his actions. You run out of words to describe just how awful a human being he is but right now, he's just coming off as a spoiled manchild whose Mammy never told him no. He's pathetic and his cultists/ apologists are even worse. They know what he is and support him anyway.

Again, I'd love someone to explain to me how that GOP secretary in Florida is being forced out due to sexual allegations, yet the Golden Shower King is seemingly completely immune from any sort of criticism or sanctions even though he's been held liable for sexual abuse by a court of law. And this is meant to be the party of law and order. It's gone beyond belief or explanation now. News outlets need to start challenging GOP members about this and not stop until the question is answered.
