Ah class I saw the Port Charlotte on your shelf and thought it would be a good one too. Hard to come back from peat land once you get stuck in it during the evening
Hard to beat it, had a Port Charlotte which was lovely but was all peated out after that so finished on Teeling Small Batch for a change
What did you go for on the end? Something powerful to match that An Oa no doubt!
Started with The Balvenie Doublewood 12, moved on to Ardbeg An Oa, next choice, undecided
Quite nice. Bourdeaux Single Malt.
€47 at Irishmalts.
Any discount code for cws
Hahaha last lines of the first paragraph were exactly my thoughts.
I like Ardbeg so the discount had me interested. Going to resist for now though and power through with what I have stashed away!
I got this at auction recently for £45 so its secondary market value is around £50-55, which is great as its RRP was originally £57. The inflated prices are just down to the demand of the committee releases. €150 was blatant gouging and not really anything to shout home about. You've decided not to gouge anymore CWS? Well done. Keep it up. 😀
TBH fair everyone was at it, up until a few weeks ago it was £100 on Master of Malt.
Not to take away from the whiskey though, it is delicious. Very different to the 10, some sherry influence and more like fennel, weirdly.
I don't know if it's a typo. Based on your post I had a look online, and it does appear like it is significant cheaper in the UK than what it was priced at in Ireland, Denmark, Canada etc. The revised CWS pricing tracks with what it is in the UK now, give or take.
I don't know the previous pricing of this bottling - was it originally higher in the UK also?
Was the Ardbeg 8 really €150 before? Or was it a typo on the email sent and it was €105. That's a £60 bottle in the UK.
@Greg81 What Achill offering was it, any use?
Sampling last night
Speaking of blends, this really is great and distinctive
Brilliant! Thanks a million.
You're right a lot Burns night I'll have to tear the house apart looking for another scotch.... 😬😃
Tried a sample of the Glenallachie Cuvee cask over Christmas, nice stuff and a great pickup at the 40 quid price.
Bowmore 17yr old White Sands. Bought in Dublin Airport a few years ago and it managed to survive Covid 😆
Alas they won't arrive in time for Burns Night :)
The placed using the bonded facility in Wexford is The Single Malt Shop - I was the one who mentioned ordering the Glenglassaugh Sandend.
https://thesinglemaltshop.com/product/glenglassaugh-sandend/
THanks for this! ^^^
Ordered the Scotiish Oak, Cuvee cask and Hugarian Oak and splitting them all three ways with a couple of mates so pretty cool and a great deal! Those whiskies are still close to £60 in the UK so thats quite the bargain! Very unusal for Ireland i have to say. Well done Ireland! 😁
What was the site mentioned on here before that shipped from bond from Wexford?
Big reductions at CWS on various 8 year old Glenallachies- all virgin oak finishes I think. Also an 8 year old Ardbeg. All down by about 30 quid which is an unusually significant drop for CWS.
Not sure I would rush out the door for many virgin oak finishes, not always that interesting, but may appeal to some.
My favourite Canadian Whisky
Curry Sark Prohibition is a great one. Fudge-y with a bit of smoke
Compass Box and Douglas Laing do excellent boytiquey blends, but you'll need to order from a specialist shop - ideally uk access - to get them.
The Chivas Regal line contains some great stuff, and is underrated.
JW core range goes without saying.
Ballantines... Cutty Sark... Both have their proponents.
Redbreast Tawny
Planning Lagavulin 16 after dinner, watching the wind effects out the window.
If you like a little peat (not too much) then Johnnie Walker Double Black is usually great value in duty free. It's my go to cheap sipper, not a lot of depth to it but a very pleasant drop
Have had monkey shoulder
Monkey Shoulder is very drinkable, I think that's in the blended malts category? For value on it keep an eye out in airports in UK\EU.
Kilbeggan Single Grain is a good starting point, though I preferred the 8yo version to the current NAS.
Canadian Club today. Easy sipper.
Anyone recommend some great value scotch blended malts?
Also some single grain whiskey? Have little experience with grain as in general I found the ones I tried to be harsh
Got Ardbeg 8 at auction and opened it last night. Very different to the 10. Both fantastic drams.
Teeling 15 year old single grain (Sauvignon blanc finish - the lovely dark green one). Yum.
