Toney is an extremely good player and in a game between brentford and other mid table fodder is likely to be the biggest match winner on the pitch. He has the belief to have almost never missed a penalty. If that grants him the belief that he manifested the win and his goal then good for him. There’s enough people, Ken included, to do you down in the sphere of football. We keep hearing how mentality is everything in pro football, well Toney appears to have it. If he was Irish we’d (Ken included) be happy enough to back him.
Anybody who manifests or mentions 'The Secret' is an idiot of the highest order.
As Ken said, visualisation is being prepared. Manifesting is basically the same as prayers.
Yeah, his mentality is so good he got himself banned for 8 months. Top mentality, top top manifestation.
there’s a difference between your football mentality and the state your life is in. See Diego maradona.
If he was on Ireland’s team he could call it manifestation, visualization or voodoo. I wouldn’t really give a damn. I doubt Ken would either.
It's complete horse **** as well. Anyone can try 'manifest' something but if 1000 people manifest winning a world title in X sport in a certain year and there's only 1 world title up for grabs the other 999 people need to manifest harder.....
Absolute nonsense. In fairness those are the top of their career, whatever that might be, have usually worked extremely hard and had a few lucky breaks along the way, possible benefited from a bit of planning but bringing manifestion into it is just nonsense.
I’m manifesting a date with Dua Lipa. Stay tuned for more
I loved the back and forth between Murph and Ken when they are annoyed with each other.
The thing about Murphs obsession with height and then Ken's obsession with Napoleon was a gas exchange.
I know it’s because I actually follow what’s happening in the NFL enough that I know more than the lads do but US Murph feels compelled to explain everything like the audience is five years old and has just awakened from a coma without a clue about what what this strange game with women’s shoulder pads and high socks is about.
Also, Spud Murph>US Murph
It was an excellent retort. He walked Ken into it.
He was on Diary of a CEO back at start of season. I rarely listen to that as the podcast itself is garbage, but did to that one as I was doing alot of driving back then. The manifest stuff is very on brand with that kind of product/podcast/bubble
Murph has toned down his carry on and the podcasts are much the better for it. No constant interruptions or giddy nonsense. When he cools the jets and just comments on stuff like ken does, he's very witty
Lineker is right, I much prefer podcasts that are just a core cast chatting, certainly if we’re talking about things that aren’t limited series telling a contained story or the like. That said Second Captains is the exception to the rule for me, the guests that are covering specific sports are a great add to the show.
It’s interesting that the lads were almost surprised by what Lineker said given I’m sure they have plenty of metrics themselves from the last ten years but I guess they’re a strange case anyways being that they started life as an actual radio show rather than a podcast so their demographics might be different in some way.
Most of the guests are usually regular contributors though? So it still is like mates talking for the most part.
Maybe that's why I don't enjoy the rugby pods, feck all chemistry.
Also agree with a previous poster that Murph seems to have copped on. He is much more likable when he isn't butting in all the time. However, I do find it funny that he ever so pious about a lot of things but he often comments on men's physiques. The height thing and then on multiple occasions laughing at Kelce's "dad bod".
If we could just get Ken to stop caring about xg and the number of pressing attempts a player does too we'd be laughing. Xg needs to get in the bin.
Very different podcast today, but was excellent. Definitely recommend the listen, they're up in Derry meeting with the family of a man who was murdered by loyalists in the 90s and their hope for justice or the truth.
They’re recording a special today on Klopp
US Murph is insufferable when you are up to speed on the sport. I like him talking about baseball or NBA cos i don't follow those and its usually just a bit of light colour he adds to story or some details I wouldn't know. But NFL, which i follow more than pretty much any sport these days he's in the Skip Bayless/Colin Cowherd category for talking nonsense. Add to that he dumbs it down for an Irish audience and its a hard listen. I was glad to see he got called out for ignoring the Ravens/Lamar last time. His 9ers homerism I don't mind too much.
On Tom Holland's initial comment, The Rest Is History is definitely far better without guests as the two lads are fantastic together.
With Second Captains, I find it can get a bit monotonous without guests to break it up.
I noticed that too. There must have been an intervention.
Hopefully Jamie "like" Wall is next for some tough love.
Am I right in saying that Miguel was really hinting, or almost outright saying, that Carsely is hot favorite for the job on yesterday's pod? There's reports on RTE now saying he's going to turn it down.
https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2024/0126/1428768-carsley-to-reject-chance-to-manage-ireland-reports/
No he was reacting to reports (eminating from the Sun journalist Owen Cowzer) that his appointment was happening in the next 7 days. Delaney said his information was that it wasn’t that close and was cooler on it than those earlier reports.
Will Ken be happy with Alonso being favourite to manage Liverpool next? Considering that he views Bundesliga as a fake league ….
Quite OT, but Paul Rouse was great as a guest on The Rest is History on Ireland.
Well, if the other main option is Gerrard I think we can guess who he’d prefer
I mean…where did they hire Klopp from?
I might be in the minority here but their little spats is like they're airing out their dirty laundry on air, and I find it too uncomfortable to listen to! I'm all for a bit of craic but I find it sometimes goes on for too long with them and gets so personal, I'm just cringing listening to it. It was similar to when Ken was slagging Murph for only texting him when he needs something.
Lee Carsley not taking the Ireland job. It’s all kicking off on the Second Captains’ beat the day they had an episode in the can.
Let it be Keano. Might as well be fun because we’re shite regardless. It’d also wind up Ken no end if we started winning matches playing defensive football so that’s another item in the plus column.
I was loving the “low energy Ken” comment yesterday, Murph went up in my estimation after it
The only man for the job.
